Ero-manga to JAV Adaptations: The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly

Adapting from one medium to another can be tricky. This is usually the case when adapting from manga to live action. It can be a challenge, nay, sometimes impossible, to translate some elements in an erotic manga to real-life sex. The exaggerated facial expressions and body proportions, perspectives and angles, and even some scenarios can be quite difficult to pull off. This why I am always curious to see directors attempting to do these.

In this article, we’ll be looking at some of the successes and failures in adapting ero-manga to JAV.

It’s no wonder that S1 chose to adapt it, starring Konan Koyoi for the wife role This goddess plays along Yuta Aoi for a delightful succession of NTR goodness and milk-chugging adventures. They also briefly included the chad husband in the adaptation.

S1 tried to be faithful to the manga. They even re-enacted some scenes with the same angles and costumes. There also seems to be some directing job going on to help Konan-chan and her partner get into character.

However, it bears noting that SONE-201 did not go the extra step and adapt some of the most iconic scenes from the manga. For instance, they skipped the beach part, which is arguably the most memorable sequence in the entire story. Here, we should see other boys oggling at Konan, with the macho husband stepping in to scare them off and protect his wife. The fact that the husband is a total alpha while the sib is a coward pays off for some delicious NTR vibes. Moreover, the whole thing is hilarious.

Unfortunately, the whole scene was scrapped and all we get are the boring house scenes. In fact, we don’t get out of the house at all. This is a huge miss for such a good material. Of course, budget is obviously a limitation. But come on, this is S-1 we’re talking about.

On another note, the same doujin was also adapted in EYAN-181 starring Mina Kitano. While Mina-chan delivered a brilliant performance, E-Body’s adaptation doesn’t have the same sheen and production value as S-1’s. Moreover, Konan’s tits just seem more fitting to the original doujin. Nonetheless, EYAN-181 is still worth checking out.

The story goes as follows: a guy is a wannabe ero-manga artist. However, his work isn’t really cutting it in Komiket. Fortunately, for him, he has a supportive female friend who sees his talent and really wants him to succeed. One day, after another unsuccessful day at the comics convention, she gives him some constructive advice. What’s really missing in his comics is REAL eroticism. The guy, being a virgin, of course knows jack about sex. So his female friend offers a chance to further develop his talents.

The manga itself goes through the story linearly. However, in MIMK-080 starring Ruka Inaba, we see their pre-sex interactions properly fleshed out. The situations and angles are also quite artistic. On top of that, Ruka-chan’s costumes are quite well-designed. Add to that Ruka-chan’s insane pair of tits, and you’ve got yourself some real eye candy.

Strangely enough, the adaptation has more sex scenes than the manga. Moreover, I can say that the sex scenes on this one are a lot better than the original. One good example is the last scene, where the guy fucks Ruka-chan while half of body is under a blanket. This allowed the guy to focus on the sensation of fucking. Ruka, for her part, also gets to enjoy being freely used by a guy like a sex toy. The scene is quite hot and well-executed, and it is far superior to the manga.

Ruka-chan also gets to showcase some acting in MIMK-080. She is not really known as a great actress, but because the original character is also quite shy and naive, Ruka-chan’s acting somehow fits perfectly.

MIMK-080 is a rare case of the JAV being a lot better than the manga. They did not hesitate to add in their own elements, and they also built on the story, rather than being limited by the original story. Overall, it’s a job well done.

In the manga, the story first starts with Adachi developing a relationship with his senpai, Sayama. The two starts having sex in the literature club room, until eventually, the two expand their options to bathrooms and offices. The whole dynamic is about Adachi scoring big by getting to fuck his older and smarter senpai.

However, in MIMK-121, we are introduced to Marin, Sayama’s friend, who said that she wanted to have sex with Adachi because she doesn’t want to have sex with strangers on the internet. The three eventually decided to go to a love hotel. Adachi gets to fuck the Marin, whom he has been lusting on for quite some time for her big ass. Doing it with his open-minded girlfriend surely brought the lucky guy to cloud nine.

I am impressed by the production quality of MIMK-121. We see a lot of variety in the exposition and sex scenes. We also have exterior scenes where the dialogue pushes the story forward. The camerawork is top-notch, and the angles are cinematic. Moodyz really put in some work for this one.

We also get to see some real acting from all of the actors. Mai Kagari, for one, has the face and the acting chops to portray her shy character. Anna Hanayagi also did a good job portraying an outspoken and adventurous gyaru.

The manga original is not shoddy by a long shot. But given that the JAV version has to condense multiple issues into a 2-hour video, the fact that they are able to produce a brilliant work is impressive. MIMK-121 is a masterclass in manga to JAV adaptation.

Of course, all of this is perfect for a JAV, especially if they do not want to try to hard. This is the case with IPX-674, starring Momo Sakura as the female lead and Toru Ozawa as the male antagonist. Following the manga’s general gist, we follow the story of a feisty girl who wouldn’t even let her boyfriend touch her breasts. Of course, the challenge only makes Toru-san more excited.

So basically we see the different methods that Toru-san employs to slowly turn Momo-chan into his sex slave.

While the original manga doesn’t have a lot to offer in terms of plot material, IPX-674 is still quite disappointing. First, it did not put an effort into developing Momo-chan’s character. It feels like she is just a general girl who found herself in a situation. It is difficult to empathize with her, and this minimizes the impact of the sex scenes when they eventually happen.

The biggest drawback, however, in IPX-674, is Momo-chan’s acting. Yes, she is supposed to play a disinterested female character, but her portrayal just doesn’t give anything at all. It looks like she is just going through the motions, even at the times when she is supposed to ‘enjoy’ the sex. In the manga, we get to see the female character’s transformation from a sexless prude to a slut who cannot live without old guy semen in her pussy. But this didn’t translate at all in the JAV adaptation.

I find this all surprising because Idea Pocket has the means to make a good manga adaptation. Quite a let-down for such a promising cast and an okay original material that opens a lot for creative exploration.

The story goes as follows: Norihito and Hisa-chan are a happily married new couple. They are already planning on having a fam. Norihito works in a small but growing company with a pervert boss.

One day, Norihito made a mistake that led to a loss of millions of units. The boss personally visits their house to spill the terrible news. However, Hisa-chan, an attractive woman, catches the pervert’s interest. Eventually, the boss makes the deal to hire Hisa-chan as his personal secretary to help Norihito make up for his mistake.

But Hisa-chan, devoted and loyal as she is, is sexually unsatisfied with Norihito’s vanilla fucking. She CRAVES to take it in the ass. After a few advances, the boss eventually gets Hisa-chan to do sexual favors. It did not take long before the boss recognizes Hisa-chan’s predilection for anal stimulation, and he personally trains her talent for backend development. The manga ends, of course, with Hisa-chan turning into a shameless and obedient slut.

URE-055 hires the gorgeous Nao Jinguji for the Hisa role and Tomohiro Abe for the boss. In the manga adaptation, we get Nao’s progression from a hesitant and loyal wife to a shameless sex maniac - another masterclass in the Nao Junguji of JAV acting.

However, despite great acting from Nao and some decent production work, I find URE-055 quite lacking.

Firstly, they took away one of the most important elements in the story - the wife’s ass kink. In the manga, just having her asshole touched is enough to send shivers to her spine. Thus, the boss being a good anal trainer makes it more believable that Hisa-chan relents to his advances. We get none of this in URE-055, so it looks like just a typical training video.

Another element is the NTR thing. In the manga, we see Hisa-chan trying really hard to keep up the good wife appearances. This is why we see the husband appear many times throughout the manga. However, in URE-055, we only see him a couple of times. Therefore, the video just becomes a series of sex scenes. We don’t see a lot of the emotional and marital tension which makes the manga original engaging to read.

Moreover, I personally don’t think Tomohiro Abe is a good fit for the role. Tomohiro-san is sleazy and all, but the boss in the manga is a total chad. The guy is a pervert, but he is also a sexual genius, aside from being horizontally gifted. His sex drive is off the roof, and he is a natural dom. Tomohiro-san, on the other hand, doesn’t strike me as a a dom at all. He can play the boss role, for sure, but he is not a stud. I’m sure there are other actors who can play the role better.

Nonetheless, I have to commend the producers for giving Nao-chan those costumes. Nao’s costumes get increasingly ridiculous as the video goes. This captures the escalation in the manga.

Overall, URE-055 is a mid adaptation, but it is still a good watch if you haven't read the original material.
