JAV Sales Report - August 2024 ft. Julia, Ai Hongo, Karen Yuzuriha, and More!
Welcome to the August Sales Report. Summer is over and that means we're one step closer to debut season. Are you as excited as I am? Okay maybe I'm not excited because I still have a couple dozen posts to write but hey, I'll be happy when you all get to see the results. Anyway let's go see what's cooking this month.
Top Actresses
Moodyz has been up to some interesting hentai adaptions in recent months and this one is very interesting. Nozomi Ishihara already done this one with another Moodyz exclusive Rikka Ono so it's interesting to see them cast Nana Yagi instead and do it in VR. Feels like they're capitalizing on her hairstyle more than anything else but I'm all for utilizing an actress whatever way makes the most sense. Definitely some fun things going on and I hope Moodyz can keep this up.
Julia is one of those actresses you're not surprised to see on or off the list. When you'e been around for 14+ years like she has people just get tired of you. Sure, she still evidently has a lot of loyal fans (I know I am one such fan) but it can be tough when you've seen the film half a dozen times, or at least feel that way. August brought us something a little bit different that was a nice change of pace for her. Neet is just so far outside what Julia not only has been doing but probably also what she should be doing which makes it all the more interesting. I'm not going to lie, I didn't really buy the idea of her being a 40 year old neet the same way all the younger actresses at SOD or IP fill the role, but as a Julia fan I'll take it. Who knows, maybe we'll see a trend of random Julia films because age is just a number and who cares.
Ai Hongo has taken a lot of heat for her scandal lately. I honestly don't care, leave her alone and let her do whatever she wants, but evidently the industry cares a lot. She's going on hiatus, perhaps partially from peer pressure and partially to help fix her mental health. She's still got some videos coming out since they're filmed around 4 months in advance, so we'll have to see what the rest of the year brings her. I'll be most curious to see if she receives the same adoration her lover did in which he got a ton of support on Twitch. Considering she's up 34 spots already it would not surprise me to see her do even better next month. As they say, there's no such thing as bad publicity, right?
Mei Satsuki has been having a grand time recently. She's scored big with a few wonderful videos including this one here. Or should I say trio because they're all listed as different videos despite all being connected. As far as I can tell they got three teams together, filmed a ton of content, and split it between three videos. Each video is focused on one of the three teams so it looks like you'll want to pick the one that speaks most to you and then get suckered in to watching the others as well. There looks to be cameos of the actresses at times and a mega finale with all 10 of them. It's a very interesting concept that is rarely done, one I know I've been wishing they would do more of since I first saw Yui Hatano and Yumi Kazama do it several years ago. Anyway, I hope they keep it up with more great content like this.
Next up we have Karen Yuzuriha who I find has been doing quite well lately. She's had a lot of nice films coming out, including these two from September, one of which made my watchlist and the other one narrowly missing out. She's been slaying it lately and next month has quality stuff as well. I don't appreciate her the same way some of our other writers do but all of this content is making me rethink that. I've seen a couple of her videos lately and they've all been pleasant, and at this rate she'll make a strong push to be in my top 100 of all time, if not higher.
Mayuki Ito is another actress that, like Julia, is always there and can be in the top 25 at any point. She's hot but it feels like you've seen everything from her. She's been exclusive to Kawaii for six years now and honestly it's feeling like the same song and dance. Albeit, it is a nice song to dance to so, you know, you can't hate it. It's like that song that used to be your favourite, where you never quite reach out for it but if it comes on you'll sing along to it all the same. I honestly feel like Mayuki could benefit a lot from leaving Kawaii but I'm betting they give her a fat stack to keep leading their roster along, knowing full well what happened to Oppai the minute Hitomi left. I've seen this one, it's not quite what I hoped, and I'll just have to hope she gets more collabs like the Aika Yamagishi or Momo Sakura ones.
Top Videos
Karen Ishida is now the newest face to join Muteki. I have just one question: doing what? It's fun to poke fun at these translations sometimes. Anyway she looks like a mystery right now and we'll have to see how it plays out with her. We've had very mixed results from the recent Muteki debuts (if you can even call Kaoru recent at this point) and I'll be curious to see what side of it Karen lands on.
Yotsuha Kominato has been very popular since her debut and she's about to get even more popular with her creampie ban being lifted. I'll be honest, ナマ中出し doesn't exactly inspire me to think it's going to be genuinely real creampies though I'm also not the guy to turn off the film because it's fake (you know who you are). Considering the way SOD goes it was probably going to happen sooner or later, they generally do lift the ban once the actress seems to be running out of steam. She's actually down on the physical rankings this month despite having the third place video which is actually quite interesting. Regardless we'll have to see if she can keep up this success or falls behind the crowd in the coming months.
Niko Kawagoe continues to impress, having two videos in the top 10. What can I say, people like this kind of actress. Very reminiscent of Saika Kawakita in a lot of ways and I think people are often more drawn to these sensible actresses instead of the kind I prefer. If you look at the last two aces they've had (Yua Mikami and Saika Kawakita), plus. Niko, you're getting actresses in like the D-G cup range, which I think is more universally preferred. If I had my way we wouldn't even start at G but there's a reason I'm not running the industry. A lot of me wonders if she's worth the hype or not, and I guess in a couple of months you'll have to see if I pushed past my preferences and review her for debut season.
Mio continues to feel like the ace for Moodyz. I for one am glad to see them try to have an ace when they typically don't feel like they do. SOD has Mana, S1 has Saika, IP has Kana, and now Moodyz has her? Definitely feels like she doesn't stand out as much as the others, probably because Moodyz has all these alternate labels doing freelance work that make any individual exclusive feel a bit less impactful. Or maybe it's just my boob vision talking because she's as flat as a pancake. Honestly it's probably just that she had a VR release. Makes you think about how much adding just a VR to a month can do.
Bookmate Rankings
Once again you can see the Bookmate rankings on their website here.
Kiho Kanematsu (金松季歩), like our other new friend for Muteki this year, is currently killing it. All the way up to second, right behind Saika? It's starting to feel more and more like she's the real deal. Muteki to S1 is one of the most common transfers we see and she's clearly milking that for as much as she can. I'm very curious as to how she fares next to our past transfer and maybe one of these reports I'll crunch some numbers and we can see exactly how Kiho is comparing.
Mitsuri Nagahama (長浜みつり) has legitimately been a very nice debut. While yes she's not the K cup debuts I've been raving about she's still fantastic to look at. I mean she's slim and busty what more could you want? Oh, right, how about a very pretty face? I find she reminds me of the Meguri body type: pretty, reasonably thicc, big but not overwhelmingly large boobs. It's a prety nice place to be and she's in great company, and Idea Pocket seems to be having fun with her.
Hikaru Miyanishi (宮西ひかる) has been slaying it since leaving IP and teaming up with Jun Suehiro (末広純) is proof of it, someone who similarly saw success as a freelancer. Sometimes it really makes you wonder just how much being an exclusive actress stifles an actress. I love the consistencey of exclusives but I admit that there's not really any comparison between a freelancer at the top of their game. We definitely don't get freelancers like we did in say Yui Hatano's prime but I'll take freelancers like either of these two if the quality of releases is anything close to this. Her stocks are rising and I think this is only the beginning.
Marina Yakuno (役野満里奈) left and Yuika Onosaka (小野坂ゆいか) (right) are two major debuts for Idea Pocket. While they are lagging a bit behind Mitsuri Nagahama it is nice to see more and more IP debuts that are working out. Idea Pocket is a studio I think sometimes lacks the talent they ought to have, I think perhaps a result of the memory people like myself have of them. The only two actresses I watch from them are Momo and Kana, after of course Minami retired and Himeka left to Madonna. It's nice to see many fresh faces there but also great to see the ones that catch my eye doing well. I know I sometimes get caught up in a "boobs or bust" mentality but it does feel like we're getting lucky this year at IP with what looks to be four busty actresses that are faring well. I can only hope this isn't temporary.
I know this isn't the most recent video for either Yuri Adachi (安達夕莉) or Mirei Uno (宇野みれい) but it's worth commenting on because Mirei has also announced her retirement. I have no idea what's going on with S1 to see a number of their actresses bowing out, whether it's these two, some silent disappearances like Ria Yamate, others that have retired, some breaks, etc. Kind of makes you wonder if half of the reason for having such a huge roster is just to make sure there's some continuity. I'm sure someone over there is crunching the numbers and figuring out who is likely to retire and make sure their coffers are still lined. How do you guys feel about Yuri and now Mirei retiring? I certainly liked both of them but like is also not that strong of a word here. Considering how much I watch it takes more than like, and neither of them stood out to me quite that much. Still sad to see them both go but I'm not that troubled by it.
Just like above Hikaru Nagi (凪ひかる) and Mei Washio (鷲尾めい) are two actresses who have recently starred together but thankfully haven't retired. I like both of them and their duo was delightful, but I feel like things are a lot different now. I've always found Hikaru to be more physically attractive and Mei to be a better performer, but Hikaru's attractiveness always edged out Mei's performing because, well, Mei isn't a particularly good performer. Now though, I don't know. Hikaru's fake tits change the game completely. I have still yet to adjust to the fake ones and I get sad every time I think about how she ruined a good thing.
Ruka Inaba (莉々はるか) has been pretty lukewarm since returning as Riri Haruka (莉々はるか). I always felt during her time in JAV that she was always so-so. I mean sure she's physically quite nice, with great H cup boobs and honestly one of the best asses I've ever seen. She has always been a mediocre performer though and it always lowered my opinion a lot. She has been doing a lot better since returning but she's unfortunatly with E-Body. E-Body feels like a shell of where they used to be, just phoning home a lot of videos and not being captivating. I can only hope she leaves them soon like many seem to do because she's better than this. In the meantime I've heard her IV is the best she's had since redebuting and I could easily believe it. If you're excited about her return but sad about E-Body, Rebecca will have your back.
Down but not out we have Tsukasa Aoi (葵つかさ) and miru in 89th and 90th place. What I find most interesting about this is the fact that their latest release was a duo starring both of them. It’s not uncommon to see many S1 actresses on these lists but to see the pair of them right next to each other is. It’s almost like pretty much 100% of their sales were from their latest video. At least, I choose to believe that because the variance would otherwise likely be way higher than this. I mentioned how we’ve seen variance in duos not too much earlier in this post when I talked about Hikaru and Mei, so it’s definitely a little interesting note to make.
I hope you've enjoyed the latest sales report and join us again next month. Until next time!
