Alrighty folks, we're at the last sales report for the year. Well, maybe not the last for 2022 but at least the last that will get published in 2022. By now I'm sure you've seen that I've started posting my debut reviews, hopefully it's as exciting as I touted it to be. If you haven't seen, I'm reviewing one actress per day, and you can stay up to date on it by following the advent calendar post I have. We're already already in the thick of it so definitely check it out if you're interested. With that said let's jump into this month's report.

Top Actresses

Mio Ishikawa is an actress that continues to hover between doing well and doing really well. I think for some actresses there are themes that do better than others, they just more naturally fit. Mio debuted as this sort of diamond in the rough, 19 year old actress, so it's no surprise a schoolgirl video like this would do well. Even with a theme lacking on the schoolgirl aspect, I think just adding the flair of her in her uniform in a love hotel can sell reasonably well, especially when it's marketed as a less submissive performance from her. I must admit the screens do look good and I think compared to most hotel videos, this one looks like they've made the most of it.

Aya is a Madonna debut doing fairly well for herself, all the way up in 20th this month. We don't tend to see Madonna exclusives up quite this high (Nao Jinguji being a shared exclusive and Jun Suehiro having left them), so it's interesting to see her doing quite so well. I think her huge boobs go a long way, but also her face and how she's at that sweet spot of some maturity but not too much. I think fans certainly like mature actresses but they definitely prefer the younger debuts. I've got a lot of hope for Aya who is now on her 8th release with Madonna. She's starting to get more nuanced dramas and I can only hope that she gets some wild opportunities next year that will help keep her high up on the list. While not on the top 25, Melody Marks is in 41st place this month. That's a name we haven't heard about in a very long time, which makes a lot of sense due to Japan's extreme border lockdowns. Now that things are open again Melody is back at it, this time teaming up with fellow Caucasian actress June Lovejoy in Liz's famous bus series. This definitely seems like the right kind of video for her and I think a great opportunity for fans to watch her. Star in a known quantity, with a good director, and team her up with another fan favourite white woman to double up on the appeal. This also isn't her only release and one could guess she would be willing to film quite a bit in Japan, so who knows what we'll get next year. Anyway, this one's sure to be a crowd pleaser for many and I'll be curious to see if Melody winds up breaking the top 25 next month.

Looking outside the top 25 we've got a few names to point out. First up is Ryou Ayumi, sitting nicely in 31st. She doesn't always get the spotlight she deserves but her doujinshi adaptation in December looks incredible and I can only hope it's as good as it looks. In 36th place we've got Kanna Fuji, fellow Madonna actress to Ryou and a 2022 debut actress I reviewed. I expect good things from her as she continues with Madonna, now on her sixth release. Yuri Oshikawa has gotten herself on the list from nowhere at 43rd and I'm surprised it's that low with the kind of content she's putting out. While there might be a nice image video or a bunny girl video alongside Miu Arioka, it's actually her Marrion video I'm most excited for; I think people don't give her ass the time of day and hopefully this video proves them all wrong. Lastly I'll give a nod to Momoko Isshiki in 88th place. She often doesn't get the spotlight over other Madonna actresses, and case in point I've already spoken about two higher than her. That being said, hopefully the 3-disc of her best is all the convincing fans need.

Natsu Tojo is someone we see fairly often on our lists and I tend not to talk too much about. I figured when I saw this release she had last month we could get a good discussion out of it and highlight her for a minute. JAV has a lot of interesting content and with that comes some interesting outfits. The wedding dress that Natsu has in this one is certainly up there. Sure, it's been done before, but you'd be surprised how little it is used. Maybe they think the people watching aren't married and would get turned off by it? I think the opposite, that fans would like seeing their favourite actress in a wedding dress as it might get them thinking about what it would be like. I think especially for someone like Natsu who isn't as busty, the wedding dress is able to highlight her better back side instead.

Want to sell a video as a mediocre studio? Start by making a fantastic cover. Whether you like Mei Satsuki or either of her costars here it's hard to dislike something like this. I know I'm guilty of sometimes expecting too much out of JAV or needing an interesting plot, but sometimes all you need is a couple of cuties with some tits in your face. It's interesting too that I often like to find interesting releases when I quite frequently complain that videos don't realize the point of porn is for pleasure. The truth of the matter is that maids and tits will sell and I'm sure all three of them benefit from a release like this.

Kurea Hasumi and Ruka Inaba being retired and in our top 25 is wild to me, along with others in the top 25 being retired and still making the top cut. You'd think that actresses would start declining without new content and yet Ruka is even up a few spots this month. I think it speaks volumes about how divided the industry is into top tier actresses and everyone else. I think it also says a lot about how much having a good catalogue of videos is and boy does Kurea have one, having hundreds of videos to her name. What I'm really curious to see is how the two will fare over the next few years as they fade more and more into memories. Ruka Inaba doesn't quite have the career Kurea has and so I expect Kurea to fare better, but then we've also seen some actresses with short-lived careers do fairly well long term. We've got Touka Rinne in 91st, Aki Sasaki in 93rd, Rara Anzai in 97th, and Shouko Takahashi in 99th, just to name a few just barely making the cut. It always feels like a bit of a gamble but if there's anyone I expect to do well long term it's Kurea Hasumi. If Aki Sasaki can make the top 100 for this long who knows if someone like Kurea will ever drop off of it. Some of the other high profile actresses that could have kept making the list like Anri Okita and Ai Uehara delisted their stuff, so it will be really interesting to see where Kurea lands and if she goes that route at some point. Until then we'll just have to see how she fares on the list.

Looking outside of the top 25 we've got quite a few movers. Mei Washio crept up a few spots to place in 30th and I'd be stoked to see her break the top 25 one month. She's an actress that has a particular appeal and does it quite well, and hopefully she can find the right video. miru also jumped up quite a few spots trying to contend with the rest of S1's best. It's crazy to think she's up 65 spots and there are still A DOZEN s1 actresses above her on the list. It's flabberghasting how deep their roster is but I have faith in miru. Speaking of S1, we've got Fuua Kaede down in 45th place from nowhere, trying to make a push for the list. Her cohabitation video from director ZAMPA doesn't look like it's quite what we got when Konan teamed up with Nao Masaki, but maybe Fuua's teacher video from December will sell well when it hits the digital sales side. Finally I'll point out Ria Yamate, up to 51st after missing last month. I have a feeling fans are starting to get a little bit tired of all the generic videos from her but she's got such a banging body that I think fans don't care that much. Ria has no December release I can see right now but maybe when she starts getting more interesting things she'll become more of a mainstay.

Top Videos

In 4th place we've got a video starring Mana Sakura as a slutty reporter. It's the perfect kind of video for her for many reasons. For one, she's been involved a lot in the scene outside of just shooting porn and I think a lot of domestic fans will translate that into being interested in this theme. Additionally I see her current look as being a bit more sophisticated the way you might expect a seasoned reporter to be. I think this theme would really resonate with people and considering she's up 25 spots this month I'm not the least bit surprised.

If you know me by now you know I'd be commenting on a cover like this one. Big tits big butt? Count me in. I've been loving all the content from pairs of busty women in recent years, not like before where top tier talent stayed in their lane. I feel like these days whatever combination I'm looking for has already happened or is bound to happen eventually, which is great. Nanami is still one of my favourites and Misono is a great newer talent. As the cover indicates, 100cm J and 101cm J are their respective bust sizes, so I think the pair will work out quite nicely. I haven't seen too much from Materiall with them being only a year into being a studio but if they keep producing content like this they'll do well.

Any time a good performer teams up with Nao Masaki you're in for a good time. It might not be as wild of a video as either Nao are known for but I'm sure both can make a more simplistic theme like this work. When you first get into the industry it's all about finding what you like: which women you like, what themes you like, which studios shoot your kind of videos. When you're in it as heavily as the writers here are, you start aring about a lot more. The performance of Nao Junguji is bound to be great, she's really quite good at these in-between plots where she can be partially dominant and partially submissive. Similarly, I trust Nao Masaki to put a flair on a video that keeps it from being too boring and generic. I doubt this is the best either have to offer but knowing that some of their previous videos are great, I think fans in the know are willing to take that gamble.

One thing we see here is a lot of extra compilation videos. That's not that surprising now that we're at the end of the year, turns out Christmas shopping for JAV is a thing too. There's a lot of different ways we see studios tackle compilations, from actress best to series best to lucky bags that we've seen more recently. If there's one constant it's that it's good value for everyone. A studio can easily sell older content that they're not getting traction on, and fans can enjoy the great price on content. I think it also speaks volumes to people having preferences for things other than individual actresses. I know I tend to be a lot more focused on watching my favourites but I could see people enjoying a theme like schoolgirl just as easily, especially when I think about how much I enjoy huge hooters myself. At any rate I find it interesting to see all the different compilations and how successful studios can be with them.

Prestige doesn't always get a lot of love, especially on their less popular labels like Kanbi, but having a first place debut video is a good sign. They're quite good about getting fairly attractive younger MILFs on their label. We've seen some pretty reasonable debuts there over the years, most notably Minaho Ariga from last year, and Hinase Tsumugi is just the latest to debut there. I always find myself a bit lukewarm with them because they get reasonably attractive women but don't always make the best content. I think a lot of it hedges on how willing the actress is to put themselves out there and do things like squirting or deepthroating (which is partially why Minaho was so great). It's perhaps a bit too early to tell with Hinase but maybe next month we'll be able to tell.

An S1 debut in 4th place always feels like they're underperforming, and honestly I'm not surprised for Arisu Shinomiya. We've seen some great results from S1 but we've seen quite a few bamboozles over the years. The fact that we currently only have a cropped right cover and some non-nude stills is always a bit of a scary proposition to me. It makes me think that they're not the real deal or that their debut will suck. I've got a lot of reservations about her and I'd definitely be very hesitant about grabbing something like that.
