JAV Sales Report - September 2021
Welcome to the September Sales Report. I can hardly believe we're almost through another year. Heck, just next month we're going to start doing 2021 debut reviews! I'm quite excited to get the show on the road and especially excited to get near the end and have a bunch of posts about debuts. Anyway, let's get the show on the road for this month.
Top Actresses
Mina Kitano jumping all the way to 1st place from 39th is pretty huge. I knew she would be reasonably popular after her debut but predicting this kind of meteoric jump is always a little hard to do. She actually didn't even have any September releases but she had a bunch of releases slated for October 1st that people were preordering. I don't know about you guys but bunny suit videos always go over well and I can see why people were hyped on Mina. I've already reviewed her and that post will be coming out sometime next month so I'll let you guys spend one more month formulating an opinion before my post goes up.
Riho Fujimori is also making a name for herself these days. I immediately drew a comparison to Yuri Oshikawa: similarly curvy (big tits and a great ass) and short hair will do that. For me, I think Riho is a better performer, Yuri's performing has always been her weakest quality. So if you're a Yuri Oshikawa fan, Riho is definitely right up your alley. At any rate, Riho's been releasing a ton of great content and it's high time everyone starts checking her out. I've seen both videos above and I've given both of them 9/10 ratings, they're both fantastic videos. Watching Riho play an older sister type role or boss at work, hot damn is she great at it. She shows no signs of slowing down and I wouldn't be surprised if Riho showed up much more frequently on the list.
Ena Satsuki debuted at the end of 2020 and I know she's been getting more and more popular, this month appearing on the top physical sales out of nowhere. I already have a friend trying to convince me to watch her which I guess goes hand and hand with her increase in popularity. She debuted for Faleno last year and this month is her freelance debut. I can see a dozen videos that have either already released or have been announced so it's really not surprising to see her jump that far out of nowhere. Not every release is going to be great, and a lot of them are for smaller studios than Faleno, but the Honnaka and Madonna releases stand out. Regardless, I think a lot of people are going to be exposed to her for the first time and we'll have to check back in future sales reports to see if she can maintain any sort of popularity like this.
Nanami is a name we don't always see quite this far up on the list. I think a lot of that has come from Nanami just not really having quality content coming out. As much as I've become a fan of Nanami she's just had so much mediocre content lately and fallen pretty far down my list. September saw her team up with fellow busty actress Yuria Yoshine. While this isn't the most amazing video I can't really blame anyone when they show us photos like the one above. Holy hell do they look amazing there, and even if it's photoshopped I know the real thing is still plenty nice. At the end of the day the particular video isn't the best from either of them, far from it, but again I wouldn't blame anyone for wanting to see this pair of curvy ladies together.
Tsubomi is an ageless wonder. There's no other way to describe an actress that's been in the industry for 15 years and looks the way she does. At any rate, 15 years is pretty incredible and I'm sure there's all sorts of sales going on. That 15周年 on the front cover's top left corner means 15th anniversary. It's incredible to think about Tsubomi being around for 15 years, that's pretty rare these days though quite a few big names are past the 10 year mark. Tsubomi might not always be a name we talk about but domestically she's one of the most well-known actresses. Actresses don't just stay around for 15 years, they only stick with something like this for that long when they're beloved, and Tsubomi absolutely is. I can't count how many times I've linked this but Tsubomi is listed as one of the top actresses of all times according to jta's post. Considering Acky is retired at this point it's likely Tsubomi will overtake her at some point. At any rate, if you're a fan of Tsubomi this is one for your collection and if not it still looks like some fun. Her 15th anniversary video being a fan appreciation visit definitely sounds like a good time to me.
Mao Hamasaki's an actress we don't talk about nearly enough. Some months I might be inclined to call her DJ Mao and chalk up a lack of success to her second job but then she has wonderful months like this that remind us she's still a great actress. Her most popular video was a group release for Honnaka directed by none other than Nao Masaki. As it turns out, starring alongside a bunch of other actresses, including quite popular names like Kaho Imai, can help you sell. That being said these stills are insane and make the video look like it's just a ton of fun. Nao Masaki certainly has a way with directing, leave it up to her to do something silly like stack four actresses on top of each other. If you're looking for something that might actually get you to laugh out loud I think this has got to be it.
Asahi continues to remind us that she's a popular actress as she's in the top 10 this month. I'm glad to see she's having success coming back, it's always a difficult decision to try and move past things and then have to take a step backwards. As far as her most popular videos are going it seems like she's having more success from sales and compilations rather than her latest video. That makes a ton of sense to me knowing that she's working at Madonna. I keep saying this but Madonna is pretty average so I don't think most videos stand out as something worth watching. I've seen seven of her releases since she came back and none of them have stood out. In fact, I can come up with 20 other videos that are better than anything new I've seen. As a result, fans are likely just grabbing something as a bang for their buck as opposed to watching all her newest videos on release. When you're talking about her newest being $22.25 USD for HD stream vs a 7 day HD stream on a video a few months old being just $3.14 when on sale, it just makes way more sense to go down the cheaper route. I'm still hoping Asahi can get back to where she was before she retired but I guess I'll just remain content that we're getting anything from one of my all-time favourites.
This month was super interesting for Yua Mikami because she's down considerably on all three charts. It's rather unheard of for her to be down like this. When comparing to her three month average on all of them, we see her down 16 spots from 6 to 22 on DMM physical, down 15 spots from 10 to 25 on the DMM digital, and down 8 spots from 6 to 14 on the R18 list. Seeing her drop on all three lists shows it isn't a single video that caused it because the DMM physical chart is one month ahead of the others. There's a very good chance that part of this is related to the releases being scheduled later in the month, her release in August came out on the 13th and her release in September came out on the 24th. I would expect her numbers to go up since then, and looking at the underlying source we saw her jump up to an average position of 7 once she her release came out. I think this is just an exception month for Yua and I would expect her to bounce back up in future months when there isn't more than a month between releases. This is probably just them changing the release cycle, which appears to now be the 8th and 22nd now, so I t hink next month we'll be good, but if we see something strange again we'll dive further into it.
This month we interestingly have Sora up on the list. I've mentioned a couple reasons why Sora might not be as popular anymore but the one that sticks out to me on the R18 side is that Faleno simply isn't the right studio for her. If you look at her last solo release it's a simple soapland video. While I'm not much of a soapland video fan myself it's also the kind of content that I think isn't great for Sora either. I just always think of her as someone more spunky than this type of video allows her to be. Yeah, maybe this particular release is quite spunky and her personality makes it stand out, but something tells me that's not the case. Considering R18 has another eight compilation videos starring her that are more popular than it (as of the time of writing), I'm going to go ahead and say that people are looking elsewhere for their Sora needs.
Top Videos
This month's top DVD is courtesy of Shouko Takahashi, someone who I think a lot of people are quite familiar with. She's up in second place this month, the best she's done this year, and it's not surprising if you're a fan and have been following her. This month has her lifting her creampie ban! Just as we saw Momo Sakura do it not too long ago, Shouko is going the same route. It always surprises me how many actresses hold out on it knowing that creampies are all faked. Either way, Shouko breathing a bit more life into her career is always great to see, and hopefully we can have a few more interesting videos in the future now that this is an option.
In 7th and 8th place we've got a pair of Faleno actresses joining Yume Nikaido. While it's clear that Yume is the major star at Faleno right now, it's not all that surprising to see Arina Hashimoto or Moe Amatsuka doing well. They're well established names, especially since they had good careers going at S1 before they swapped studios. I think these are the kind of actresses that might not always make the top of the charts but if they did you wouldn't be surprised. I'm not too sure what people saw in Moe's video, it looks like a pretty standard thing to me, but Arina's video definitely looks interesting. The premise is she works at a convenience store and ends up having sex with one of her coworkers at the store. I don't know about you but convenience store is one of my favourite settings and I'm always excited for videos that take place there, especially with so much of the content being there (as seems to be the case here). As much as I'm not a huge fan of Arina, this is definitely the kind of video that can convince me to watch her. This is also the kind of more interesting content I've been looking at from Faleno and I really hope some other actresses I do watch there get an opportunity to star in this (looking at you Yume).
Karen Yuzuriha is someone who somehow manages to keep crushing it month after month. What's even more surprising is that she keeps having older releases show up on the charts. You would think people would flock to newer releases or more interesting releases and yet we're seeing her second and fourth release be the ones. I've instead linked two different releases above, the first being the video I watched of her and the second being one that has been recommended to me from a few people. I think it's safe to say she's doing well for herself if even her old videos are the ones doing well, but like Mina I'll make you wait until later in the year to hear my thoughts on her.
Minamo is someone who is turning out to be really popular. I'm still on the fence about whether I want to check her out or not, I haven't personally wanted to watch her but it's hard to ignore that kind of popularity. That being said, we do already have a first impression review up for her, which you can find here, so if you're interested like so many others you can go take a look. I will admit that her recent video looks like a banger, a lot of different costumes that ensures everyone will find something to like. Especially with a runtime over 3.5 hours there's just so much going on and so much value that you're almost obliged to watch it. I can already feel myself caving on watching her so if anyone has seen it, please comment below and help convince me.
Saika Kawakita continues to make a huge name for herself, more than people unfamiliar with her backstory might expect. As a reminder, Saika is a redebut and was just as popular the first time she debuted. This cover jumped out to a lot of people because they thought it was Nao Jinguji at first glance. I must say, there is a pretty big resemblance, and Nao is a name that a lot of people (especially us foreigners) like. I doubt Saika would draw the same comparisons when watching the video, and even the stills don't make her look the same, but I don't think Saika really needed it anyway with how popular she has been. It is, however, something that might get the last few holdouts to watch her considering just about everyone under the sun has already taken a peek.
Mio Ishikawa placed 7th on the physical sales chart this month, something that's not all that surprising. People who have been reading the sales reports know that it's common for a debut to show up in the top 25. Mio comes with a gimmick like many debuts do, hers being that she's a diamond in the rough they just randomly stumbled upon. It's premised on her not realizing how attractive she is. I'd say I'll let others be the judge of that but clearly they already have. The fact that she's 1st and 4th on the debuts chart is evidence enough of that. Who knows if she'll have staying power for later on, I'm probably a bad judge of the domestic market anyway considering what my preferences are, so we'll have to check back next month and see how she's faring.
S1 also has a pair of debuts on the charts, Mian Shirasaka and Riko Kasumi. While there are certainly a few actresses that are more popular than them on the list, one always has to note S1 debuts because S1 is simply the top of the top. Neither of them seem like anything special to me, and at this point in the year neither of them will make my debut reviews (at least not the ones I'm doing this calendar year). That being said, S1 actresses are always insanely popular, the physical charts still has four of them in the top 25. At this rate one could do an entire post just on S1 debuts, this pair makes it 10 this year. I've never really contemplated something like that before but who knows, a top 10 list of S1 debuts might be a fun post to do.
Up at the top we've got this really surprising video that's just chalk full of anal content. Yes, that's right, 16+ hours of actresses getting railed in the butt. A lot of people dislike anal in JAV because of the censorship and how you simply can't see the enjoyable part. I tend to agree with them to an extent but at the same time, sometimes you do just want to see anal. And especially in JAV when pretty much all anal means DP as well... Anyway look, the price is fantastic for the amount of content you get and this is one of the few times that I think you might actually enjoy random actresses here. If all you're doing is watching them take it in their ass then you might not care too much who it is.
This month also has a handful of Idea Pocket videos on the list. While the 10th place video is a year old, we've got two brand new and very different entries in the 8th and 9th place spots, featuring Kana Momonogi and Karen Kaede. Kana is someone I honestly still haven't seen yet and this video is certainly a contender to watch. Naked apron blowjob while making dinner? A blowjob under your desk at work? Who could resist! Following that we've got Karen in 9th place doing a race queen video. While I'm not a fan of Karen I will admit that Idea Pocket does some fantastic race queen videos. So many of them are so good and I'm sure Karen's entry is just as good as any of them. If you're a fan of Karen or race queens then I would highly recommend checking it out.
With that our sales report for September is done. By the time the next report is out I think we'll have some debut reviews up, exciting stuff. I really do think people will like what I'm doing with it this year and hopefully we can make the review posts and the sales posts a little more engaging as a result. I've also been playing around with a way to improve the sales post that I should be ready to try next month as well. As always, if you've seen some good debuts this year please let me know in the comments. Until next time!

I'm with agusman, I like Madonna. They feature a lot of more mature/older woman and their picks for debut girls are interesting.
The fact that they're my 5th most watched studio in the past three years says they're doing something right. I do agree with you that their focus on mature ladies is great. Especially when it ranges from "someone not too old that looks a little more mature" all the way up to "someone who is actually in their mid 40s".
There's still a lot of issues they have. Part of that is that actresses past their prime aren't going to be as good performers, part of it is videos being a little too similar, part of it is actresses not having long careers (it's quite common for them to leave after the first 3 or 4 releases).
I decided to go and substantiate my claim about Madonna being mediocre by looking at my review stats. I decided to look at the last three years, so anything from 2019 forward.
Madonna came out 5th when sorting by most reviewed studio at 74. As it turns out I actually do watch them quite a bit. They have a lot of actresses I like quite a bit working for them, like Asahi Mizuno, Yumi Kazama, Nao Jinguji, Marina Shiraishi, Minori Hatsune, and several others that work there quite regularly.
I then sorted by average video rating and filtered only for studios that I had seen a dozen or more videos from. As it turns out, Madonna scored 17th on the list. Definitely a far cry from the 5th they placed in terms of videos seen. Obviously you disagree with me and I'm glad to see people voicing other opinions, but my personal opinion is that Madonna does need to improve certain qualities.
Now, it's not as if others didn't place poorly as well, I know I've seen more S1 (they were second in videos reviewed) and they were actually 18th on my list (basically tied with Madonna) in average video rating. I'm someone who says the same things about S1 being quite lame, people just don't notice it all that much because they dominate the sales reports. I actually comment a lot on Rara videos pointing out how lame they are and not worth watching at all, and I stand by that.
Yeah that's kind of the problem with large group videos. It's very difficult to do well because there's so much chaos going on. It definitely can be done but more often than not it's just a giant mess.
As far as I know it's just total sales numbers. So if an actress releases 10 videos, all 10 videos count equally to the total. It definitely makes it harder for those releasing once a month but at the same time, the quality of those videos is usually a lot higher and thus attracts many more fans.
