JAV Sales Report - September 2022
Hey everyone, welcome to this month's sales report. If you haven't seen the news about R18, make sure to go check out my post about it. As I pointed out there, it's going to have a direct impact on the sales report as I'll no longer be posting updates about R18. We'll have to see if there's something else I can use to replace them on the list, but for the time being it will be DMM only. It sucks but at least it'll be easier on me since there's less to write about. With that out of the way let's get onto this month's report.
Top Actresses
Remu is an actress we basically never talk about because she basically never makes the list. I think a good portion of that was when Prestige totally left DMM (which they're now back on evidently) because Remu is otherwise very popular. She's basically been carrying Prestige these last few years as others like Airi Suzumura and Asuna Kawai have taken various leaves. For me, I haven't really been that interested in Prestige since Mion Sonoda left, which maybe dates me a bit since she's been retired for three years now (holy, time sure does fly). Anyway, Remu is able to play a lot of younger roles (like schoolgirl) that gives her a solid amount of variety for a studio that tends to be very bland. I find they're really good at variety videos so having more varieties you can go to makes a big difference. There's a lot of solid stuff from her if you're interested like everyone else is.
I finally checked out Non Ohana as I've been mentioning in recent articles and I can say now that I understand what the hype is for. She may not totally be an Oppaira actress but I get why people are excited about her. Especially with her getting a lot of interesting videos, I think she's on her way to being one of the hottest freelancers around, if she isn't already there. I won't spoil my thoughts about her in case I do post something, but for now I'll say that you should probably find a video of hers that looks interesting a take a gander. Above are just a couple of her most recent that might be worth taking a peek at.
I'll never fully understand Japan's obsession with debuts. I get wanting to follow an actress and their career, I get wanting to get in on the ground floor, but somehow debuts are the best thing since sliced bread. So far Yotsuha hasn't really done much and I don't blame studios for milking it. Yeah, the video is four hours long, but four hours of boring content is still boring content. I guess for those debut-crazed dudes, four hours gives you a really good look at the actress to decide if you're interested or not. Jumping that many spots is pretty crazy though so who knows, maybe Yotsuha is the real deal. Speaking of which, Yotsuha has her own website, something you don't see every day. It's not the first time I've seen one but maybe it's a sign of her being dedicated to the industry. As a fan it's pretty cool and I think a sign that the actress may be worth paying attention to. I can't say Yotsuha is for me but maybe someone else (wink wink Fried Chikan) might review her and let you know if she is or isn't the real deal.
Arina seems to be settling in well to her new post as Moodyz's top actress. I've pretty consistently said that Faleno is a very medium studio and Arina doing well at Moodyz feels like vindication. Maybe it's due to their sales structure and how more of her sales are on DMM now, but I like to think it's because people just like Moodyz more. Her latest doesn't seem all that interesting but clearly people are buying it anyway. Maybe it's all aboard the hype train right now, something that seems pretty reasonable for an actress like Arina who appears to be reclaiming her position in the spotlight.
Miharu is still up on our list this month with her October release, sure to be one of her last. She announced her retirement back in July so it should be any time now that her retirement video comes out. Given that videos have a lead time of about 3-4 months, probably November or at the latest December will be when her final video comes out. Miharu's had a pretty solid career these past six years, being exclusive to S1 pretty much the entire time (aside from her debut video over at Muteki). I feel like Miharu's always been a little overshadowed at S1 just because there are so many amazing women there. They tend to have a wide cast of actresses so there have been plenty of others to fit a similar niche, like Aika Yumeno back in the day. While Aika might be looking a little too mature to play the younger schoolgirl type vibe that Miharu has going on, Mirei Shinonome should fit the bill nicely for anyone looking for a replacement. And if the wound is still a little bit too fresh for you to be looking, well, we've got at least one more month where you can enjoy those big tits and pretty smile.
Yuria Yoshine also being on one of our top 25 lists is quite fitting considering that Jun Suehiro joined the top 25 on the physical side. While this video is probably not the reason either of them did well (because it's not a physical release and wasn't out until October), it costars this unlikely pair. We tend to see Yuria star far more with other busty actresses, like Nanami Matsumoto, Miu Arioka, Shiori Tsukada, Monami Takarada, Nene Tanaka, Misono Mizuhara... you get the point. Starring not only with a relatively new actress who isn't anywhere near Yuria's body type (or any of her costars) is a pretty surprising casting. That being said, opposites attract and maybe Jun and Yuria contrast each other nicely. The cover does say Yuria is there for the tits and Jun is there for the ass, so who knows, maybe you get the best of both worlds here. I think this could be good for both actresses: Yuria getting an opportunity to star alongside more mainstream costars, while Jun getting a bit of a boost to her freelance career. Either way, definitely an interesting pairing that may be worth it for fans of either actress.
Top Videos
Say what you will about bunny girl videos being overdone but when an actress you like does one it's always time to celebrate. Momo is easily one of my top two at Idea Pocket (alongside Minami Aizawa) and I'm excited to see her get a video like this. She's really got the body for these kind of outfits so even if the content ends up a little more bland and relying really heavily on the outfit itself, her body will definitely pass muster.
In 6th place we've got the latest Rin Hachimitsu video. I'm still torn on whether I think Rin will pan out due to her fake boobs, but so far she's doing well. I can't remember the last time someone on the IP roster had bolt-ons like hers (though I don't claim to be an IP expert), but it's just so unusual for them. At the same time, maybe that is why she's doing well. Fans of bigger studios like IP or S1 tend to be very loyal to the brand, so I could see people being interested in Rin just for that variety. I'll almost certainly be checking her out this year and I'll just have to hope that her next video is interesting enough so I can avoid something generic.
We've seen this kind of video do well in recent months but it's still always surprising when it does. Simple truth of the matter is that white women selling in Japan is enough of a rarity. There are certainly a few studios that specialize in it, like Crazy Walker, and every once in a while they spike the sales. This is one of those cases where it's a bang for your buck type deal. 22 women, 30+ hours of content, how do you go wrong? I would have to imagine that part of this is just the mystique of foreign women. With such a strong domestic industry it seems like a lot of Japanese people only watch JAV, so this may be some of the only "western" content they watch. I could also be totally wrong but it certainly seems that way when they so very rarely spike the list, and this one looks like it's got a pretty solid variety of women in it.
We've all lived through the pandemic so we're no strangers to masks, but masks in JAV is a different ballgame. It's certainly not the first time I've come across it but it's still rare and novel enough to have a discussion about. It's such an interesting theme because it's anti-intimacy in a setting where intimacy is actually important. It's not quite like those black masks Nitro uses though because you can still see her eyes, so it has a much different feeling to it. I think especially in VR you'll feel the impact of the mask way more. I'm not sure if the realism of it (because I would expect a nurse to wear a mask) makes it more enjoyable or not, and probably the mask not being the medical kind hurts the realism anyway. Still, fans thought it was an interesting concept from the results so what do I know anyway?
Riko Hoshino straight up dominated this sales report (first on this list, fifth on the physical sales), which is par for the course with top debuts. I think one of the selling points is how much effort SOD put into this. It shows with the quality of the screens they provided but I think there's a lot more than that. The video looks like it's got a lot under the hood with the variety it has and the runtime over three hours. It does make me wonder why other studios don't put this much effort into debut videos. There's a lot of chatter about how a debut is the most money an actress will make and it makes me think studios should do the same with everything else. Maybe it's because they don't think they need to but this video is certainly selling well and might make them rethink that.
Aina Namiki's debut for E-Body (5th, 7th) is also par for the course for E-Body. Someone that's reasonably attractive and reasonably busty is exactly what you expect from them. E-Body doesn't have the same mainstream success with their debuts that other studios like S1 or Idea Pocket has, even if their actresses are every bit as attractive. October debuts are a little bit late for watching at the end of the year but when you're this attractive exceptions can be made.
With that I draw this month's sales report to a close. We're now in October, almost time for my debut posts. As I mentioned, October debuts are very difficult to make it to my sales report, so probably we've come across a lot of the debuts I intend to watch. I intend to be watching a couple per week for the foreseeable future so make sure to point any out that you're interested in. Until next time!
