Oppaira's 2021 Debut Roundup - 2 Years Later

Published : October 15th, 2023 Written by Oppaira

Hey guys, welcome to the 2021 debut roundup post, two years later. Last year we took a look at 2021 debuts after a year. Figured it was time to go back and look at them again after two years and see where we are at. We'll take a look at where debuts are, how they're performing, and who I'm still interested in. Especially with what I did in 2021 where I really examined them closely and watched so many of them, it'll be interesting to see where we are at.

Overview & Data

First off let's take a look at where the debuts stand. There's a lot to unpack here so bear with me for a minute.

We are at 41 debuts reviewed now from 2021 which is up from the original 28. That's nearly a third of them that I watched after debut season. We always expect a few stragglers each time as there are late debuts, actresses that improve later on, or actresses that get recommended to me later on. A few of them ended up being watched after due to various posts I came up, most recently being Mio Ishikawa that was recommended to me.

What is very interesting is how many I am still watching. I've given up on everyone that's retired so it's just up to the active ones to take a look at here. I'll go into some more details below but only about 25% of them are actresses I actually still watch. It's interesting to see that the conversion rate is so low. It kind of goes to show you need to wade through a lot to find compelling actresses, but at the same time I'm actually quite happy that it's low because it gives me time to actually enjoy them all.

Another interesting tidbit here is the number of retirements we have. With the way I watch debuts it's rare to see first year retirements but second year retirements seem to be very common. People talk a lot about how short careers in porn tend to be and this highlights it. I think we sometimes take for granted how lucky we are with veterans who stick around for 10 years and it highlights the gamble you take watching an actress early on. Sure, they might retire early, but you also might find an actress you like at the beginning of their career you can enjoy for several years.

One thing I find interesting is that there are still debuts from 2021 that I am interested in watching. It's crazy to think that we're so far from then and yet there are still several that I'm interested in. That's not to mention the fact that I've seen 40+ debuts now from 2021 so it's crazy to think even as high as 50 might be the number I will ultimately end up watching. Jun Kasui, Sakura Mita, Miyuu Inamori, and Meisa Kawakita remain the ones I'm most interested in, though there are in fact a few more.

Jun is particularly due to her incredible ass that people have convinced me of while Sakura Mita is due to her great tits. Miyuu has been in the spotlight with her vocal stance about the new AV law and has some great content alongside Sakura Tsukishima (who I reviewed earlier this year). Meisa is perhaps the most interesting because she's full on retired right now but with a film in my favourite series the question isn't if but when.

A chart that's interesting to look at is comparing how the top debuts have performed. These are all done relative to when I first watched them which is why Non Ohana's is so far to the left. We can see right now that Konan and Rino is a two way race for first, which is exactly the same thing we saw in the last post. Like we've also discussed in previous iterations, there's usually only about two or three debuts that really stand out in my mind. We see Konan and Rino being the two with potential for Non to catch up, but Minaho has definitely fallen behind on them. This definitely highlights that after the first year we can be really confident about our opinions on debuts which is something we'll want to mention when we look at 2022 results. The last thing we can glean is that the top performers are all A tier or better actresses, both Rino and Konan were A tier. You do see some higher ranked actresses not quite working out as well as others but we don't see lower tier actresses showing up among the top few.

I promise this is the last set of charts we're going to look at. On the left we can see the breakdown among actresses I've seen, and yeah I know it's a bit messy and even some of the data is cut off because there's so many data points. It's a bit difficult to gleam a lot of overviewed stats with how many slices there are which is why I've got the really simple one on the right: most actresses I don't watch again. If you take a closer look at the one on the left you'll see where most of my watching goes into: half of the videos seen are by actresses I've seen at most three times, and the top four make up about a third. Or you can see that the amount of videos I've seen from Konan and Rino alone is as much as I've seen of the ones I never watched again. Again, this goes to show just how huge the disparity is.

Retirements

At this point it's been 5+ months since Alice Kisaki's latest release and I'm willing to say she's retired now. Her career was honestly extremely disappointing to me. She was one of the few S ranks I gave and I still honestly stand by that initial rating. Shared exclusive debut, absolutely incredible ass and tits, what was not to love? Clearly her performing was so bad that people lost interest very fast, myself included. She's actually still among the most watched from that debut class for me but it went downhill very quickly for her. I also don't at all regret watching her, I'd rather hedge on someone like her doing well than watch someone I have more confidence in with less voluptuous proportions. Still, what a shame, I'm sure Pan is with me on this one.

Some of you have undoubtedly read through FC's post What is Happening at Idea Pocket and have seen the big X across Mai Kanami. She wasn't my favourite debut but she was an actress I actually did watch again. I still stand by the average rating that I originally gave her but it's always a shame to see silent retirements like hers. Her last release was way back in January this year and I just have zero faith she's still in the game now. At least we still have her tall counterpart Miu Shiromine, who while no longer at IP is at least still around the industry and doing well enough for herself.

Others

Rima Arai is the standout 2021 late watch for me. I gave her an S right off the bat after having seen her entry in my favourite series which totally blew me away. It was incredible and I have nothing but nice things to say about both Rima and the individual video. She may not be the omega busty actress I look for (and this year had Misono Mizuhara, Momo Minami, and Ruu Yumemi, to name a few) but her proportions fit her body incredibly well and she's also both prettier and a better performer than any of those three. While I haven't quite been watching a ton of her I do expect that to change soon enough, and maybe if we looked at this data three years out we would see a different picture.

Kaoru Yasui is an actress I thought I had seen the last of. I've never actually given a debut review an F rating so Kaoru's D is tied for the lowest. I know I'm not a fan of her, I know I won't be, but she did the one thing that would make me watch her: star in my favourite series. I still haven't actually seen it yet (which is probably a factor of Kaoru being bad and me delaying the inevitable) but she will be one of the few D actresses that get another watch. Maybe, just maybe, moving out of S1 will breathe some life into her, but I expect very little and don't have my hopes up.

Minaho Ariga is someone I have very conflicted feelings about. She's someone who I think isn't really getting the quality content she needs to succeed and I think the industry just kind of gave up on her. It's cool she's still around but at this point I can't really bear to watch her. She has such an incredible ass and her tits are not half bad either. What has stood out for me over time is how wild she can be as a performer. Watch the clip above and tell me how many times you say "what the fuck" and then tell me how many times you watched the clip. It's this really strange over the top style that makes you wonder what's going on but you also find surprisingly enjoyable. I still hope she'll get some opportunities but at this point it's probably time to move on as much as I may not want to.

Yuzu Sumeragi remains a bit of an enigma to me. She's both someone I think I don't want to watch and someone I'm surprised I haven't seen a second time. She's quite plastic in my mind and physically not exactly what I'm looking for. On the flip side, she certainly has some quality releases alongside some actresses I like. That's Hibihata in the left two and then Alice Otsu and Akari Niimura on the right two. All actresses I quite enjoy and all releases I would honestly probably be happy to watch. As much as I am someone that enjoys a good plot or theme, these highlight just how important physical traits are.

Ria Yamate continues to be someone I have such weak feelings about. I will admit that she has nice tits but she falls off so hard after that for me. Pan recently wrote about her and had the same opinion I had of her. Considering where S1 is these days I can't imagine myself caring about Ria when there's so many others I could be watching instead. The image above really sums up my feelings about her: if her tits aren't right there in your face then I couldn't care less about her. I honestly have not seen her again and at this point I really don't expect to.

Ruu Yumemi is a modern day Shiori Tsukada, she really is. In the front she's got some incredibly full tits that are a whopping 100I compared to Shiori's 101J. On the back side she's got 85cm hips which honestly look way bigger when you watch her videos. Maybe that's just her incredibly meaty thighs coming out to play but holy does she look as thicc as a bowl of oatmeal. Ruu hasn't had a release since May but has been active on social media, so it's hard to say what exactly is going on. I'm hoping it's not a real retirement because it would be a shame to lose a body like hers.

Favourite Debuts

Konan Koyoi

I recently wrote about Konan, giving her a brief spotlight alongside one of my favourites from 2020, Aka Asuka. It should come as no surprise after that post that Konan continues to be one of my favourites. She's pretty, she's busty, and she's a good performer amongst the sea of mediocrity that S1 tends to be. Sure, there are a couple of other good performers there, but among the bustiest like Hikaru Nagi, Mei Washio, and Ria Yamate, Konan is a mile above them. I enjoy Konan and as long as she continues to release content I'm sure I'll continue to watch her.

Rino Yuki

Rino Yuki is in a very weird spot for me right now. She's still great and she's still one of my favourites from the year, but things are starting to wind down for her. If people haven't heard the news she announced about half a year ago that she was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and will be taking some time to rest. I can only imagine what living with that condition is like and as a fan it's crushing to hear. I can only wish her a speedy recovery and that she manages to get it under control. There's certainly still some content out there but I know my habits and while she's on this hiatus I'm unlikely to watch her like I once did. She says she's not planning to retire at this point so I'm going to keep my spirits up that everything will turn out okay in the end. I'll still have fond memories of her and think highly of her, but it's sad to see this be the reason she's out.

Non Ohana

Non has very quickly climbed up my personal charts, she's a very well rounded actress and someone I'm glad I ended up checking out. She's even been hot on other people's minds as well. Even though I technically have seen more from Minaho Ariga, you better believe that Non is higher on my list right now. You can see that in the original chart where Non eclipsed everyone getting to 5 videos reviewed, in fact she dusted Minaho by over half a year. Non continues to have so many good releases compared to Minaho and I think Non will soon enough come to rival Rino and Konan.

Conclusion

Here are a few conclusions I can draw from doing this roundup post:

  • I still maintain that most debuts aren't worth watching. I say it time and time but the data is pretty clear about it. I'm only watching 25% of the actresses I checked out, and if I'm looking through the ones I really genuinely care for, that number is even smaller than that. Hopefully everyone else follows my posts so you don't have to wade through all these actresses to find the nice ones.
  • There will always be good debuts I discover after the initial wave of debuts. 2021 has Rima Arai, 2020 had Ririko Kinoshita, 2019 had Honoka Tsujii. To expect myself to watch them all is difficult, especially if I'm willing to wait a little bit knowing I will come back and watch a few more.

I hope you've enjoyed this post and I hope you're all looking forward to 2023 debut season in a few short weeks. Until next time!

I first dabbled into Ohana Non through ure 093 with Aimi Rika. She is indeed a standout performer with a wide range. I try not to get into freelancers a lot due to the sheer number of releases. My wallet hates me. Speaking of aimi rika, where is she these days? Did she silently retire?
