Oppaira's 2022 Debut Review Roundup
Overview
Hey guys, welcome to my debut roundup for 2022. I hope you've all enjoyed the way I've displayed the content this year with my 2022 JAV debut advent calendar post. Doing one post per day for a month is kind of crazy, and while it was a ton of work it was also a blast to do. I hope you didn't mind having to wait all the way until December for it, and hopefully others like FC writing about debuts was helpful in tiding you over. We're now at the roundup post, where I go over my favourites of all the debuts in different categories and go over my final thoughts.
Rating Changes
One of the things I've noticed with ratings for debut actresses is that it's very difficult to get it right the first time. What I mean by that is that I find myself wanting to change some ratings as the year goes on. Between when I first put pen to paper and collect my thoughts, to when I finish my review post, to this roundup post, I find some of my opinions change. It's a lot different compared to reviewing actresses that have been around for a few years, debut actresses are a lot less known quantities. Actresses might retire, go freelance, increase their output, or any host of things that can change how you feel about them. It's not just me changing opinions either, as the chart from one of my sales reports indicates. With that said, here are some changes to my original ratings I would make.
Momona Koibuchi: A -> S
At the end of the day I actually think Momona Koibuchi is a little better than I painted her. Maybe that's just more of her fitting my very obvious preferences but I find myself very interested in checking out her upcoming January release. I'd certainly love to check out something more interesting but honestly I can live with a release like this if it means watching more of Momona. I mean, god damn is she what I look for, and I can't wait for her to really get into it.
Himeka Iori: A -> S
I would say I also have a lot of desire to watch Himeka. I think the big thing is just having an IP debut that really fits me. Minami Aizawa and Momo Sakura are great, don't get me wrong, but they aren't exactly what I would call an Oppaira actress. And as much as I do watch them I'm far more initially excited about an actress there that suits my preferences, especially since it's been a while since I have seen someone like that at IP.
Retirement Rating Drops
Simply put, any actress that retires is more or less going to get a D ranking from me. You'd have to be very special to be someone I'll start investing time into despite you being retired. I don't mind checking out older actresses that are retired because there might be a hundred videos for me to go and look through. If you retire after three or four videos, like the names below, I'm just never going to be interested. Even if you look at this year, why spend time on these three when there were 28 other actresses to watch? Anyway, these three all appear to have retired (no releases for three months) and so I have no interest to watch them before. These aren't the only retired ones, just ones that I watched them prior to realizing they were retired and have to adjust their ratings down.
Minato Maiha: B -> D
Hinata Kimitsuka: B -> D
Natsuki Hoshino: C -> D

Most Attractive (pretty)
I find most attractive to be one of the more subjective categories, especially with my general preferences. This year was a big surprise to me what the final results wound up being and I think it's best to just jump right in.
Runner Up - Himeka Iori
Himeka was surprisingly pretty in my opinion but it was also a bit surprising she wound up being my runner up. I find actresses that are that cute and that busty have a charm to them that makes them stand out. Even someone like Iori Yuki I found rather pretty, and I honestly think part of it is because of the pool around them. So many actresses at Himeka's size are "just tits" so when there's something more it just adds a certain extra oomph to them.
Winner - Rei Kamiki
Rei was very easily the prettiest actress. I know I tend to like actresses a little more mature than her but she's simply quite pretty, something pretty much everyone I know who has watched her has said. She definitely rivals the best on SOD's roster and I could see them riding that one to the bank.
Best Tits
Best tits is usually one of the more challenging categories for me because of my strong preference. I wind up watching all the best busty actresses and then there's a ton of great choices. I was able to narrow it down to just four actresses, as you can see in my clip below:
Runner Up - Momona Koibuchi
Momona was someone I immediately knew had some of the better tits this year. They're huge and a little bit saggy, but considering that Hitomi is my favourite actress I'm not surprised I liked them a lot. I was pretty sure they would be one of my favourite pairs and I'm not surprised whatsoever that she's here in second place (or perhaps I am surprised that they're not my favourite pair).
Winner - Reina Kuroki
Reina is someone who is simply the definition of juicy. I know I often have huge preferences for tits that are a bit saggier with a bit more give to them but honestly, Reina's pair looks like the textbook definition of tits. They're big, they're full, and they don't look too stiff at all. They're just so incredible that there's nothing but to give her my top slot this year.
Best Ass
Best ass was a category I had a lot of hopes for after last year. We were blessed with so many great asses: Rino Yuki, Alice Kisaki, Mina Kitano, and Minaho Ariga. I must admit, this year wasn't quite as impressive, but it's hard to top what we got last year.
Runner Up - Rei Kaimiki
I wasn't particularly expecting Rei to show up here even if I knew her ass was quite nice. I really thought someone else would show up, especially someone with a meatier ass. That being said, Rei's ass stood out on her well-figured body. It had some great jiggle to it but it actually had a very pleasant shape and size that came out very well in certain angles. Definitely a much more well-rounded ass, something you don't see all that much (certainly not on our winner).
Winner - Reina Kuroki
Like I've said probably a thousand times at this point, Reina's curves are out of this world. Her ass is so huge and delicious, really embodying the term phat. Her ass reminds me a lot of Shiori Tsukada's, just huge and curvy at the same time.
Best Body
Best body is a category that has a lot of flexibility because there are a lot of ways a body can be nice. Sometimes it's nice because it's slim and toned, other times it can be nice because it's perfectly juicy. Here are the two I picked for this year.
Runner Up - Hinata Kimitsuka
The runner up here was rather difficult for me to pick and I wound up looking through quite a few. I wound up picking Hinata as I found her body had a very nice amount of thiccness to it. She seemed very juicy to me in a way that was not overdone in any way. I honestly could have picked one of many here so take Hinata with a grain of salt as it could have just as easily been Rei Kamiki or Aoi Ichino or Honoka Furukawa or any other number of women.
Winner - Kanna Fuji
Kanna Fuji was someone right off the bat I knew had an incredible body. I've changed my preferences a lot over the years and you can never go wrong with someone that has a relatively toned midsection. Hers does that in spades but also her flexibility is incredible. I think the big thing for me with Kanna is that I actually want to look at her body because it's that nice, whereas with others you're looking at their tits or ass instead.
Best Video
Best video is my favourite category, mostly because it's a category that's easy for me to do. Since I write reviews of all the videos and rate them, it's simply me looking at which one was the highest.
Runner Up - STARS-678 (Rei Kamiki) [8.9]
I think Rei's video should come as no surprise to people that it was one of my favourites I saw. Obviously she was one of my favourites getting an S ranking but also the video just had a lot of nice cosplays that made it enjoyable to watch. I can't really complain when you get a bunny suit, nurse, and schoolgirl scene in the same video. Some of the videos definitely had better plots, like all the risky girlfriend cheating ones, but those videos tend to fall a bit flat with debuts because they're just not strong enough performers yet.
Winner - KBI-088 (Nonoka Tominaga) [9.0]
I was honestly a bit surprised that I picked Nonoka's as my top video because of the complexity of the narrative. I think more than anything what came out was how well she performed it. There was a lot of nuance that came out through a variety of situations, from her husband secretly having her cuck him to sitting right beside him as he got cucked. It was just all came together quite nicely despite any confusion on my part and wound up being quite enjoyable.
Best Performer
Best performer is a fun one to look at for debuts because there's potentially some hidden gems here and I enjoy trying to find that diamond in the rough. It's also one that's not too difficult to pick because most debuts are pretty mediocre. Either way, here are my selections for best performer.
Runner Up - Honoka Furukawa
Honoka was actually a fairly good performer. A lot of IP debuts don't end up being quite this good from my experience. She reminded me a lot of Minami Aizawa who can actually be quite good. I think one of the benefits that Honoka has is that she draws those comparisons to Minami. That means people know what to look forward to as she improves, though honestly she was quite good as it stood. Even looking at what opportunities she could have in front of her, there's a Minami teacher video she would do well, or taking the Hikaru Miyanishi tutor video and taking a slight performance change to suit Honoka would be great to see.
Winner - Nonoka Tominaga
Nonoka Tominaga was the best performer in my opinion. She just displayed a level of understanding that showed she didn't just show up for a paycheck. The subtle nuances to her performance and how wildly different her performance had to be at different stages of the video really came out. I think that really identifies a major thing actresses have difficult with, which is modifying your performance at different stages. Videos quite often go through a narrative where the actress doesn't want to do it at first and by the end she's enchanted by it and loves it, yet the performance often feels exactly the same. Nonoka being more expressive early on made the ending part feel different and really stand out.
Most Likely to Succeed
Sometimes I need to take my own personal preference out of it for a second and take a more objective look at it. I comment a lot on how my ratings are based on my desire to watch them again but that's a metric shrouded in a lot of personal bias. As someone who writes objective sales report pieces, I figured taking a more objective look at actresses would be good.
Runner Up - Mirei Shinonome
All things considered I actually think Mirei has a bright future ahead of herself. She's got a good package on her: busty, cute, and a solid performer. We've seen combinations like that in the past from S1 with actresses like Aika Yumeno and Miharu Usa, and I think she puts herself in a good position with Aika maturing the way she has and Miharu retiring. I could totally see Mirei taking up a missing mantle in a very big way there, and let's not forget that she's at S1 in the first place, which is already a big boost. I also think Mirei has more staying power than someone like Unpai who seems to have mostly been riding some minor celebrity fame rather than people betting on her laurels.
Winner - Jun Suehiro
Surprisingly I think Jun Suehiro is the most likely to succeed. Even if I wasn't the biggest fan of her she's doing very well. In fact, leaving Madonna seems to have been a great choice for her career. She's been topping the charts a lot, being in the top physical sales for some time now. She debuted back in April which means she's been growing on people. You always run a risk as a MILF going freelance that you get relegated to the bottom tier MILF studios but Jun has been getting a pretty good mix of studios. It also includes her continuing to work with Madonna as a freelancer, something you actually don't tend to see once an actress leaves Madonna.
Most Disappointing
Most disappointing is a category similar to least likely to watch again since I'm probably unlikely to watch them again. However, it has one major difference in that I expected a lot more than we got. Sometimes I watch an actress not really expecting myself to like them, so when I don't I'm not really disappointed. However, there are plenty of cases where the actress I watch just isn't what I had hoped and that's how we have this category.
Runner Up - Ren Yukishiro
I feel the need to preface this with a comment that I don't expect every busty actress to be good. I've watched a ton of busty actresses that just weren't worth their salt and so I know someone like Ren could turn out bad. That being said, I didn't anticipate her being quite that bland, especially with her paizuri. You at least expect busty actresses to utilize their tits well but my god that paizuri was awful. I just couldn't get into her at all as a result. I don't think she really had other redeeming qualities either, her face being chubby is something that I still remember quite well. Regardless of whether she shoots anymore videos in the future I just wasn't having any of her and the D rating I gave her isn't something I expected to before watching her.
Winner - Ichika Nanjo
I had extremely high hopes for Ichika and boy was she disappointing. She didn't do much of anything during the video and I was literally just "show me her tits that's all I want". There were others who were certainly not what I had hoped for, but Ichika is someone I had high hopes for in the first place. I mean, I was willing to watch her after she retired, which kind of goes to show just how much hope I had for her.
Most Likely to Watch Again
This category is perhaps better off known as my favourite debut. As I've mentioned, my ratings scale is based all on one premise: am I going to watch them again. A D rating is someone I flat out don't believe I'll ever watch again whereas an S rating is someone I expect to watch again very soon. It should come as no surprise that the highest rated actresses would be here. This category had seven actresses that scored an A or S ranking so there was plenty to pick from.
Runner Up - Himeka Iori
I really quite enjoyed Himeka's bubbly personality that came through, even if very infrequently. I think that shows some potential for performing. Of course, her being busty and pretty is certainly a great combination. What really does it for me though is that she's working at a really great studio that I think will make good use of her bust size. A studio like S1 (where Mirei Shinonome works) is going to not do much, or the label Reina Kuroki is at (Fitch's Nikuyoku label) is going to be extremely underwhelming. Himeka's next release already looks promising and I think they'll continue to have a lot of promising opportunities for her in the near future.
Winner - Rei Kamiki
Rei is the only actress that I have watched a second time so far so she was a pretty clear winner for me. She stood above the others as being extremely well rounded: pretty, busty, nice ass, slim body, and a solid performance to boot. She simply had a lot of things going for her that make her really worthwhile. Very reminiscent of someone like Yuri Oshikawa to me, where she's pretty solid in every category, and it goes a long way. Even though the second video I watched wasn't nearly as good as the first, and even though I don't have the most faith in SOD, I still think things will turn out well for her.
Least Likely to Watch Again
Least likely to watch again is a category that is usually very easy to figure out. Since I generally don't like watching retired actresses, I can usually trim it down to a set of retired names and then just rank the handful of actresses there.
Runner Up - Hinata Kimitsuka
Hinata had just three releases last year, really underwhelming. She struck me as someone who wasn't all that comfortable with it, perhaps someone who gave it the old college try and wasn't into it. She was physically rather enjoyable but with just the three I don't see myself interested at all. Not when I can watch someone like Aoi Ichino, Aya Ueha, or Kanna Fuji (who are all still working for Madonna) just as easily instead of her.
Winner - Minato Maiha
Minato retiring half a year ago after just four videos makes her really obvious as a choice. Despite me actually liking her, I think that when it comes down to it the actress being better rounded is worse for her here. I'm far more likely to watch an actress that has a particularly good single quality just because I might watch her for that reason, like if they were very pretty or had an amazing pair of tits. With five other Madonna debuts I checked out, not to mention other MILFs as well, I just don't see Minato's qualities standing above the others. I also know myself well enough to know retired actresses at four videos is definitely not someone I plan to watch.
Dark Horse
Dark horse is a category I've recently come up with that I think is pretty nifty. It's my pick for someone that I think has a chance to surprise me and be someone I like a lot more than my initial impression of. Think of it as me predicting which actresses where my rating is most likely to be lower than it turns out to be. When I look at it like that, I explicitly removed all S and A ranked actresses from the running simply because they scored well. With that said, let's take a look at my two picks.
Runner Up - Kokoro Ayase
I watched Kokoro's August release and since then she's been getting a lot of great opportunities. She's been going around a lot of major studios like Fitch, Wanz Factory, Oppai, Das, Moodyz, Kawai, Honnaka, and this is actually a really great sign from a newcomer. Especially getting to work at Madonna, they tend not to take on just any actress at her age. She's releasing around a couple videos a month on average and across this wide of a range it's very likely there will be a good amount of interesting videos. There are definitely already some interesting things and considering she's worked with Oppai already, I wouldn't be surprised if she were to star in my favourite series there. While I'm still only lukewarm on her I think there's a lot of potential for her and she might wind up being quite nice.
Winner - Kanna Fuji
Kanna hasn't really had much of a career yet with just six releases but I'm willing to hedge that she will turn out to be someone that grows a lot on me. I think as the amount of mature women I've been watching has grown pretty rapidly, finding mature woman that are different is something to look for. Kanna is in amazing shape and has flexibility you just don't really see from mature women, especially with how Kanna utilizes it. I think other things like her getting sweaty or some of the passion she delivered could really make her quite pleasant. She's obviously going to need to get the right opportunities but as long as they keep her I think that's an inevitability. Especially if she does VR, I have a lot of hopes for some interesting positions that could be quite entertaining.
Reflections
As I was doing my previous roundup posts this year there was one realization I had about watching new actresses: it's far better to hedge my bets on an actress with higher upside. To explain what I mean we should consider two kinds of actresses: one that is likely to be all-around solid and consistent versus an actress that is likely to be very good in a single dimension and wildly inconsistent. I've spoken before about waiting several months to watch debuts to try to find actresses that are likely to stay in the industry. The thing is that many actresses I watch as debuts don't go on to be actresses I watch regularly regardless of their career. I simply watch too many actresses and there are too many new actresses I start watching each and every year. Case and point, I watched a whopping 77 new actresses last year.
My realization is that I ought to watch new actresses that I am less sure about there being a long career and someone who catches my eye for whatever reason. I'd rather gamble on them turning out to be really great even if it means there's a lot more actresses that wind up retired. The data I was looking at showed a pretty clear picture: only the top few actresses that are new to me even matter. I've seen 38 debuts from 2021 and I've seen less than half of them again, and less than a third that that I've seen in the past half a year. I can look at some from last year that retired or their career didn't turn out well, like Alice Kisaki or Uta Hayano, and actually not be that unhappy simply because it makes room for other actresses. This is largely why I watched Ichika Nanjo after she announced her retirement, because I'd rather hedge on her being amazing rather than watching some random actress I won't care about. Even if I never watch Ichika again, I'm unlikely to watch whomever would have replaced her jus the same.
I also have myself wondering how big of a difference it makes if I watch an actress early on in their career or not. I often try to wait as long as I can but when I look at some cases where I haven't, like Hana Himesaki's third video or especially Aka Asuka's debut video, I'm not actually convinced that it matters all that much. I think for debuts the likelihood of the fourth or fifth video being that much better isn't that likely, and instead it's more physical qualities that stand out. Aka's debut was unremarkable but she was one of my favourites from that year (even to this day), the same was true for Hana, and I would wager the same is likely to be true for someone like Himeka Iori. Even sometimes I have much higher opinions that really quickly diminish, like Alice Kisaki who just doesn't pan out. I think more often than not I end up in a place where I say "I'm interested so let me keep an eye out". I think the fact that I would expect them to get better opportunities and improve their skills makes me a lot more open to watching them again, unlike a veteran where I already know what to expect.
So what's the point of all this? The point is that it makes me evaluate how I deliver these posts. In 2020 the posts were seven actresses per post with smaller blobs, in 2021 we got individual posts over the course of four separate weeks, and in 2022 we got a post every day for a month. It's entirely possible I do another 31 again this year, it's also entirely possible I recognize that doing things throughout the year is better. For example, Fried Chikan does monthly debut posts and I think it's great to get it more consistently as opposed to myself waiting until literally the last 31 days of the year. I haven't really committed to anything yet but I'll definitely be thinking about what I do in 2023 and be asking around for feedback, so be sure to comment if you have opinions about it.
Conclusion
It's definitely been a fun year of debuts once again. There have been quite a few nice debuts and I'm hoping that some of the ones with good potential blossom into amazing actresses next year. Even though I had selections for #1 and #2, I think the four above are the four I am most excited about, and I wavered between each of them as my top two. Who knows what will happen as we go into next year, we've seen cases where a great actress didn't turn out well (like Alice Kisaki who was an S ranked debut I haven't seen in a year) or cases where my initial impression was wrong (like Konan Koyoi, who was initially a B and is now probably my favourite debut from the year).
For anyone who has been following along with my crazy idea this year, thank you. For anyone that trusted me when I was commenting about it throughout the year, thanks for sticking with me until the end of the year. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this and I'd love to hear who your favourite debuts were. Until next time!
