Oppaira's 2022 JAV Debut Review Roundup - 2 Years Later
Hey guys, Oppaira here. As you all know I like to look at debuts for the first and second year afterwards to see where they wind up and how the year stacks up. So it's that time again and we'll be seeing where things stacked up for 2022 debuts. Remember that this is all from my opinions of the vast number of debuts that I've seen and have continued to watch.
Overview
The first thing to get a sense of is to see where our debuts actually ended up. Let's go through a few quick highlights from this chart:
- More debuts are still active than not although there is still a sizeable amount of retirements.
- We can see the distribution of when actresses retired is actually quite uniformly distributed. That is to say, it looks like an actress is just as likely to be a one-and-done as they are to retire a couple of years later.
- Very few actresses are actually worth watching in my opinion. That list is about 1 in 5 actresses and doesn't feature anyone below an initial B rating. If you're the type to be slow to get into an actress you should probably be waiting until I'm sharing a post like this two years later to decide, or be willing for them to be mediocre.
Retirements
Yuri Adachi is someone I had lukewarm opinions of. I've heard a lot of fantastic things about her actually including how sweet, kind, and amazing of a person she is, and I might honestly be inclined to get into her more if it wasn't for her retiring. I never really got into her and I think it was because she got outshined by others at S1. I have nothing against her and she's perfectly fine, but a middle of the road actress like her at S1 when they keep pumping out so many quality actresses is just not the place to be. I think perhaps on a different roster she might have done okay, but it's just hard to compete against so many other slam dunk actresses. Especially for me as a boob fanatic, even though I'm sure Yuri's G cups are lovely, when you give me K cups or even L cups, well, sorry Yuri.
Mirei Uno is much in the same boat as Yuri. While I personally have a higher opinion of Mirei I feel like the industry just generally pushed her out. S1 is ultra competitive these days and as much as she fit this nice spot of adorable + busty, S1 just didn't seem to be the right home for her. It's a shame too because unlike most actresses at S1, they actually understood the assignment and gave her the right roles. Who knows what she'll be up to next, and it sounds like she won't disappear. One thing S1 should take note of is to set more actresses up like her with that kind of variety. Find a theme that works and do a good amount of videos in it.
Overperformers
Aoi Ichino and Aya Ueha have been two actresses overperforming where I anticipated they would be. I think a large part of that comes from how much Madonna pushed them when it came time to the 10th anniversary stuff. They put both of them in both of the 20 actress videos and as a result I watched them each a couple of times more. They would be pretty unremarkable actresses if they hadn't been pushed like that and I don't think that's the end of it with them. I think Madonna is likely to keep pushing them so the likelihood of me watching them more is rather high.
Kanna Fuji is someone I listed as my dark horse in my original roundup. Despite only giving her a B, I had a sneaky suspicion she would be someone I came to like. Turns out I was right because she currently trails just my three favourites. What can I say, I like milfs and she very much comes across as one in all aspects. Being slim while having impeccable flexibility has been amazing when contrast with her being a milf, but I think more than anything it's just her face being a huge turn on for me.
Potential
Reina Kuroki is someone I continue to have very mixed opinions on. Sometimes I feel like she's painfully average and other times I look at someone who has 100cm J cup tits with a phat ass to boot. The way I see it right now, Reina being a freelancer is giving her a lot better opportunities. I always wanted to watch Reina and every time I looked over her releases looked like trash and I skipped them. She's still getting a few mediocre videos but it's at least mixed with a number of solid videos where I actually can watch them and even enjoy them. I can only hope her trajectory keeps going up like this and that there are more and more quality opportunities for me to watch her.
Riho Shishido is someone I'm starting to appreciate more and more. She's teetering right on the line between underrated and something much better. She's a far better actress than I think most people realize and it's nice to see her finally at a point where enough of her videos are quite nice. Even though I haven't quite seen the right number of videos from her yet I'm always impressed when I do watch them. The way I see it she had a lot of potential and I wouldn't be surprised if she truly started to catch up to my favourites. When I talk about waiting a year or two to watch an actress after they improve, Riho is going to be my go-to answer, not that she was bad at the start but she's honestly fantastic now. If you haven't been watching her all I can say is that you probably ought to.
Underperformers
Kaho Hamabe stocks are at an all time low. This is not a recommendation to buy said stocks. When I first started watching her I was like, oh you know what she looks great. Half a year later she was off to Madonna and half a year after that to the bottom of the freelance world. She's just the unfortunate soul who got tossed to the curb, perhaps undeservedly. I don't know if I saw something different than the rest of people did or everyone just didn't do her justice or what, but she should be having a better career. That said when you're working for Planet Plus and Pako Pako, unlucky for you. Like if you've gotten yourself to a position where I'm supposed to be happy when you work for Crystal Eizou in 2024, yikes.
Kokoro Ayase, like Kaho Hamabe, is someone I thought had potential. I say had because holy moly has Kokoro stooped to low studios. Don't believe me? Ever heard of Shigeki, Atagoya, or Olympus? Me neither and yet those are half of her last six videos. For someone I thought could have made a name for herself as a star on a roster like Oppai she's now even more in the dumps than anyone I can think of. Honestly, is anyone even watching Kokoro these days? I don't know which director or agent she upset but she clearly upset someone.
Favourites
Himeka Iori has unsurprisingly turned out to be one of my favourites. Big tits, pretty, what more is there to say? At times I've been impressed with other qualities like her performing or ass, and then sometimes I'm just not buying it at all. Despite that volatility I do still like her quite a bit. Turns out that having two really good qualities can be enough. It also goes without saying but being only on solid rosters (Idea Pocket and now Madonna) means the quality of videos is relatively high. Sure, I could think of better homes for her than Madonna, but I'll take Madonna over Atagoya or Crystal Eizou every day of the week.
Momona Koibuchi has also rightfully been a favourite of mine, but you knew she would be, right? I mean, what are they listing her at these days, O cup? Yup, natural O cup exclusive for a major studio is a no-brainer for me. You could be blind and see that she would be in the favourites section. I definitely do think there's more to her than her boobs, she's got a spunky personality that she can lean into quite well when she tries, especially on social media. I also think she still has some potential to really break out as a great performer. Simply put, there's a lot to like right now, a lot to hopefully look forward to, and a chance as big as her boobs I'll keep watching her.
Rei Kamiki has also still remained one of my favourites if not my favourite of the debut year. While she's sort of neck and neck with the other three I feel like she has the most potential still. What she lacks in boobs compared to the others (and let's be real, while her boobs are nice they are not Momona nor Himeka nice for my preferences) she does make up with how pretty she is. I mean wowzers is she gorgeous, honestly has potential for my top 10 prettiest actresses of all time list. Where she also beats the others is in her performing which has honestly been very good. In the right video I expect really high quality performing that is just downright fun to watch. I do lament that Rei has had so many boring videos which is really the only thing stopping me. It's honestly like she's so pretty that they just don't bother with themes. Like they know I'm so enamored with her beauty that I'll just watch whatever garbage they put out. And honestly every once in a while I do cave but I'd be watching so much more of her if they weren't so lazy. That being said, Rei seems like someone who will have a lengthy career at which point I'll happily have watched dozens of videos and not really bat an eye about the first couple of years of her career. She also truly does seem like the most complete package right now and knowing we likely have many years ahead of us and she's already at this point makes me excited.
Conclusions
2022 has turned out to be a pretty good year for debuts. It's definitely better than 2021 was in my books. There's three true S ranks, three actresses in a tier below, where those numbers are 1 and 3 in 2021 since Rino Yuki sadly retired. I find you usually do get a good sense this far in, and especially with two of the top three being SOD exclusives, I just generally have a great feeling about them. I've also noticed that my ratings are pretty stable, at least for the top of the class. In the middle there's a bit of volatility, sure, but my top three have been my top three both in my initial reviews, my year 1 review, and my year 2 review. It's always nice to see that I hit the mark as it means I generally can tell very easily whether an actress is both for me and likely to do well.
Anyway I hope you've all enjoyed checking back on 2022 debuts. I'll be doing a look at 2023 debuts in the next month or two before we finally get down to 2024 debuts. Until next time!
