The AV Open and the AV Grand Prix's Show Stopping Videos

In part one we covered the history of the AV Open. A past event where a large number of studios competed against each other with their titles for supremacy and bragging rights. Sadly as we speak the event is dead in the water with little hope of it reviving. But don’t mourn it’s demise, celebrate the fantastic smut that came out of it. Let us check out just a taste of some of the crazy, great, wild, and fun porn that came out of the showtime JAV event of the past.

We kick off with a big title. It was not uncommon to see massive group titles for the AV Open. Which is what studio Hon Naka thought too so they decided to add on a little twist to the whole format with a bachelor game. Loads and loads of women, big names and small, fighting over the attention for one man. There are some interesting names here like Ai Mukai, Kurea Hasumi, Ian Hanasaki, Akari Mitani, and Hikaru Konno just to name a few. A fun addition to a well worn genre. If you’ve seen the Bachelor, which you should at least once, then you’ll understand the appeal of it. Our next video is jam packed with porn as Natural High goes for the distance with a triple header title 481 minute long title. That’s over 8 hours of smut, calling that a pretty decent length for a video is an understatement. However as far as I can tell from my searches this is all new content. The video is apparently three entries of popular series by Natural High crammed into one big video. Compilation or new content it’s hard to deny the sheer value that Natural High brought with this video. The video itself combines simulating and public sex with an added bonus of some rough fucking. Next up is not an AVOP title but from their temporary successor, the AV Grand Prix. This one takes it’s title from the fantastic Beauty Venus series which usually put three big stars from three different studios together for a terrific threesome title. With lesbian interaction also being on the menu for most. This one stars Reina Matsushima, Maria Ozawa, and Erika Sato. While I don’t know the other two, who doesn’t know about Maria Ozawa at this point. Who is as fine as she’s ever been. All in all this was kind of a disappointing title. There should have been much more blow jobs and the girl on girl action was weak. This is more of a standard threesome team up that doesn’t come up to the level of Beauty Venus. With a great name like Blowjob Venus, I had high hopes for this one. For fans of Maria or the other two, it at least warrants a quick look.

That last title was a bit of a dud so let’s give Maria another chance to redeem herself with her award winning title with DAS. So it’s no surprise that she would do a title like this one, where some big name actresses would balk at. When this title released in 2009 for the Grand Prix it swept a bunch of awards; the overall Grand Reward, DVD sales, retailers, featured actress, and even the packaging award. And it is no big surprise with the two superstars. Both girls started out at the same time and quickly became top sellers in JAV, a team up with the two was a sure bet. Yuma is the same bubbly, confidant star we all know and love. Rio however is much more shy and reserved. So fun to see a cuter, greener, and fresher faced Rio. She almost gets taken for granted at this point of her career but every now and then Yui will remind you why she is a hall of fame worthy AV actress. Doing this list I was surprised to learn how many videos I liked were done under that label. While there are still creative and fun titles being made, the AV Open seemed to light a fire under porn makers. Competition seemed to bring the best out of them. Aside from SOD.
