The Naked Director Season 2 Episode 6 Review and Recap
(spoilers ahead)
Low and High Points
For Toru and Diamond we enter the lowest point of the second season so far. But not everyone is down in the dumps as Kawada and Toshi restart their business.
The Low Point: Toru’s Fall
Robbed by Komu and M's Oba, Toru scrambles to save his company. Every avenue is a dead end, not even his former rival Umino can muster any insults or help for our porn director. Even his money man, who was giddily bleeding him dry earlier this season, tries to give him sound financial advice. This comes to a breaking point as his debts come due. He can’t play his debts nor his employees. This all comes to an explosive and very long blow up with all the Diamond employees. His monologue/rant is a fine bit of acting but it is hard to sympathize with our porn director when he has alienated his entire company. All in the name of this beloved satellite.
(The look of madness)
The Low Point: More Yakuza
Enter the Yakuza again. They float Toru the money which he uses not to repay his debts and employees but to keep his satellite channel alive. It is all for waste, his satellite lives on but only for a short time. And again a central character is in debt to the Yakuza. I am really tired of the Yakuza. They seem to only exist as boogeymen to terrorize other characters. Their story was much more interesting and dark in the first season. We still have two more episodes, lets see what happens next with them.
The High Point: Mitamura gets some
Nobody is hit harder with the fall of Diamond than Mitamura. When Toru betrays them all by selling uncensored videos, Mitamura breaks. He and Rugby were the last holdouts to stay loyal to Toru and are treated like garbage for it. But all is not lost. Mitamura has gotten close with the actress he prematurely ejaculated on, Naoko. Mitamura gets some. It is actually a sweet relationship that has been bubbling under the surface for some time now.
The High Point: The Gang’s back together
There is more light to counteract the drama and darkness of Toru’s fall. Kawada and Toshi revive Sapphire Pictures. Something has been missing from this season, the pure joy of seeing people work together to build something. Kawada and Toshi slowly but surely rebuild their business, even bringing on a newly unemployed director. Their new business is fun, light, and without all the ego and troubles. For now that is.
Toshi and Toru’s stories have flipped around. Toru is now at his lowest with his business dead in the water. And while Toshi is not living as high as Toru was, his life is much better working with Kawada now. Seeing the renewed Sapphire get back to basics was a real joy to see in a season marked by heavy drama and big spectacles.
(The gangs back!)
Observations
Man Ms. Oba is looking good with her hair down. Being a criminal suits her.
Same for Junko, she has gotten prettier as of late.
Kaoru returns to Toru with a shocking line.
JAV Star Watch is dead. We see another glimpse of Aoi Tsukasa but I have call this segment quits. Sadly it seems we won’t be seeing loads of JAV cameos as I would’ve hoped.
