Top 5 Worst Doujinshi JAV Adaptations

I've already tackled the top five best doujinshi adaptations so it makes sense to flip the script and countdown some of the absolute worst. There's a wide array of reasons why a JAV doujinshi adaptation might fail. It could be due to a miscast of the lead actress, they omit some content from the original work, or it just flat-out doesn't make for a satisfying film. That last point is a pretty common theme among most of my picks here. Let's kick this off by highlighting an adaptation featuring one of my current favorite actresses that sadly, doesn't stick the landing.

If there was an award for best doujinshi cover, MIMK-128 would likely take the cake. But the greatness is only surface level as the film itself is painfully disappointing and makes for an overall lousy watch. Now don't get me wrong, the plot itself is actually quite nice. It revolves around Hana Himesaki playing a naughty schoolgirl who seduces her teacher by intentionally breaking the rules and being "punished" for it. The film made a great casting choice with Hana as she definitely fits the schoolgirl look very well without looking too out of place. But unfortunately, this is where some issues start to arise.

One such problem is with her performance. In the manga, she's much more lewd and slutty with a devilish energy. But here, Hana plays it more submissively except in the last scene when she loosens up a bit. It's frustrating because Hana has proven many times before that she's more than capable of this but for whatever reason, falls flat. Now I will say as an adaptation, it does a decent job. It adapts every scene reasonably well with the appropriate range of settings. And as I mentioned, Hana is a smart casting choice. She may not be quite as busty as the main character but then again it's hard finding a specific actress who can authentically play a schoolgirl with tits bigger than her head. So outside of her acting, it's a relatively solid adaptation but the positives end here I'm afraid.

MIMK-128 just doesn't make for a satisfying film. One major reason is her wardrobe. Wigs in JAV are notoriously awful besides a few exceptions. Hana's wig just isn't up to par, often looking like a recycled sweeping brush. Can't Moodyz spring for a better-looking wig or is that out of their budget? The schoolgirl uniforms aren't much better. Sure the outfits fit the manga but they're too obscuring and do a piss poor job of showing off her assets. It's the worst by far in the second sex scene when the damn thing isn't even unbuttoned and you're stuck staring at her awful wig. Also, she's always looking directly into the camera despite it not being POV which just feels like an odd choice for a film of this genre. This one had potential but the terrible wardrobe and wig combined with some middling acting results in a largely disappointing adaptation.

START-151 is the most recent adaptation to make my list having only just released a few months ago. It boasts a pretty tantalizing cover but unfortunately, that's about all this film has going for it. It already gets off to a bad start with its plot as it centers around a guy who has his girlfriend film herself having sex with other guys to appease his cuckold fetish. I'm far from being an NTR fan so right off the bat I was put off.

I have quite a few things that I dislike about this adaptation and one has to be the casting choice. For starters, she's a lousy performer. Her facial expressions are lackluster and unengaging on top of some very middling enthusiasm. While in the manga, the lead character is more flirtatious and lewd. Another issue is her appearance. I'm sorry but she's not pretty or fitting for the role at all. She's got quite the butterface honestly and the photoshop on the cover is ridiculous. Just an abysmal casting choice all around. It at least seems to adapt all the scenes properly so I'll give it that.

Even setting aside the source material and how well it adapts it, it's just not an enjoyable film by any measure. START-151 is really bogged down by its repetition. Sure there's plenty of action but every scene takes place in a boring dull bedroom with some pretty mediocre lighting. As a result, all the scenes kind of blend together. There are also some other annoying quirks here such as in the second to last scene when they use a split-screen view to I guess create the cuckold immersion of getting your dicked sucked while watching her do the same thing with the other guy. It just doesn't work. Also, they sometimes use a light VCR-esque filter whenever she's recording the action for her boyfriend. It just looks silly. I could go on but I'll end it here. There's very little that I like about this adaptation. It may do an alright job of adapting the manga, but the casting choice is one of the worst I've ever seen and the satisfaction level is almost nonexistent. A huge swing and a miss.

Yuria Yoshine was built for doujinshi adaptations with her thick body and huge tits. She's starred in tons of them over her career with a wide range of results. Some great, some average, and a few outright terrible. This is sadly one of those as it's easily one of the worst adaptations I've seen in recent memory. The premise centers around a man who discovers that his older sister has an alter ego posting nude content online. One day her bro discovers this and uses it to persuade her into sucking his dick and eventually full-on sex. It's nothing too complex as far as doujinshi's are concerned.

Now this one is a bit difficult to properly rate because as an adaption itself, it does faithfully adapt every scene from the manga. Yura is also a decent fit for the lead role although this is one of the extremely rare cases where the actress actually has a bigger chest than the main character. Not by much mind you but it's worth pointing out. Her wardrobe is spot-on as is in the manga with every outfit used such as the schoolgirl uniform and slingkini along with her glasses. Many of the angles and shots are captured one-to-one too. So as an adaptation, it actually does a nice job.

The problem with the film lies in its enjoyabilty factor which is pretty low. I won't deny that it's a faithful adaptation but some films don't exactly make for a satisfying watch. There's really one major reason why and that is repetition. What I mean is that EVERY scene takes place in the exact same bedroom with the exact same lighting setup. All the scenes begin to blend together making it quite tiresome. Is it really much to ask that they light the scenes just a bit differently? It doesn't help that no real sex occurs until nearly an hour in. To which, the sex scene is decent enough. But you can find much better in other films from her. In the end, EBWH-014 is a faithful adaptation that just makes for an extremely dull and boring watch.

Some doujinshi's make for a nice read and that's it. No need for an adaptation. This film is a prime example of that as it shows not every manga makes for an enjoyable watch. The premise is seemingly about a cheeky girl next door who decides to crash at this guy's place following some sort of predicament. She inadvertently teases him with upskirt shots until he can't resist anymore and makes a move on her. They then proceed to go at it for the rest of the video. It's a very simple premise for a doujinshi that doesn't really go anywhere and begs the question, why bother adapting this over the plethora of better works out there? Especially when it's barely 25 pages long.

Does it at least make for a good adaptation? Well...yes and no. I'd say it does a good job of adapting what material is here along with fleshing out that first scene and adding an entirely new scene. They kind of had to though because otherwise the film would be about 30 minutes long. My one major hangup about this adaption is the casting choice of Kasumi Tsukino for the lead role. She's just not a good fit physically. She can play the bratty schoolgirl reasonably well but is nowhere near as busty as the lead character. She's maybe a fourth of her cup size. It's not the worst casting choice ever but there are so many other better candidates for this such as Hana Himesaki or Yuria Yoshine for example.

Don't even get me started on the sheer satisfaction of this film as it's nearly nonexistent. It may be a passable adaptation of the source material but that doesn't mean it makes for an enjoyable watch. By far the biggest issue here is the scale of it all. The ENTIRE film takes place inside this basic ass apartment with one room. That's it. Two hours of a singular location with the exact same lighting to boot. Sure her wardrobe is slightly different across the two scenes but it really doesn't matter especially when each scene is an hour-long making it feel super repetitive and dragged out. There is just nothing here. It's shallow and makes for a painfully dull experience thanks to its casting misfire, reused settings, and just lousy execution.

I just don't understand this one at all. Why bother adapting something like this when there are tons of other more deserving works out there? SSNI-053 chooses to adapt not a manga doujinshi but a 3D hentai animation strangely enough. From what I can gather, the premise centers around a guy who uses a talisman of sorts to manipulate and subdue a busty volleyball player. He then proceeds to fondle her huge tits and have his way with her. It's a rather crude and simple animation. Why S1 chose to adapt this is beyond me.

Now for what it's worth, it does a fine job of adapting what source material is here. The casting choice for example is honestly perfect. Rion is perfect for this for a couple of reasons. By far the biggest is her equally huge chest. She's about as close in cup size as you'll find over at S1, at least back in the day. The main character is also very submissive and doesn't really do all that much...sounds just like her, right? The locker room setting is also spot-on to a T as a one-to-one recreation. The only thing missing is the presence of anal but you'll never find anyone at S1 willing to do it so it's understandable. The film also follows the same scene structure as the original with all the bells and whistles, even the over-the-top ridiculously fake cumshots. This actually is a great segway into what makes it a dreadful watch.

There is a plethora of reasons as to why this makes for a terribly unsatisfying film. As I mentioned, the comically ludicrous fake cumshots are a contributor for sure. Another factor is something many adaptations on this list share and that is repetition. The entire film takes place in one singular location and it just gets so tiresome. Her middling performance, as fitting as it is, doesn't help things either. There's one other main issue I have and that is Taku. He's the lone male actor here and it's no secret that I strongly dislike him. I'll admit he fits the ogre pervert role well but I can't stand watching him and his terribly unattractive facial expressions. There is absolutely nothing redeeming here as a JAV film. Even if you just want to enjoy Rara's tits, you can find much better elsewhere. It's a passable adaptation but it just doesn't translate well to the big screen.
