The concept for this was taken from a Scanlover thread asking users to list some of their most unpopular opinions relating to JAV. This could relate to specific actresses, studios, plots, or just the industry as a whole. If you want to check out the thread for yourself then here you go. Now I thought it'd be fun to go through and pick out some of the most notable opinions to see which ones are most relatable and what ones are just flat out ridiculous. I will be grouping these in order of "spiciness" so to speak. This means the takes at the beginning will be pretty tame with the ones near the end being rather spicy and absurd. Now let's get into it. 

Mild

Two different takes on the completely opposite side of the spectrum.  I think lesbian JAV lives or dies by the chemistry between the two starring actresses. It's absolutely the most important aspect. When you have a pair of actresses with great chemistry it really elevates the experience as a whole. Some examples include Ayumi Shinoda + Erika Kitagawa, Anri Okita + Hitomi(Ye I know they have no dedicated lesbian film but have shot scenes of just them two), and Hibiki Otsuki + Yui Hatano. Otherwise, I agree it is very boring and dull. When there's no passion there, it feels hollow. The censorship doesn't help either as you can't see what's happening down there when they get going. My overall opinion is that it's great in only a few instances where the actresses really connect well. Beyond that it is underwhelming.

"Hitomi Tanaka is overrated".- kondo-san

Of course this a very subjective take and I respect that. I know most don't like Hitomi due to her huge boobs which is fair. But saying you can't understand why she is popular...have you seen her boobs?. It's no secret that many men love big tits which she certainly has that going for her. Her broad international appeal plays a key role too given she can speak English, has an Onlyfans, and has worked with popular western softcore studios such as Scoreland. And the statement of she's overrated is one I highly disagree with. Her face was definitely rough early on but now I think she's rather pretty. Not to mention her performances have greatly improved and her body is in objectively great shape. Say what you will about her big boobs she keeps herself in amazing condition. I'm a firm believer that the hardcore Hitomi haters who only know of her from her early films should give her another shot. You may change your mind.

I think many already know how I feel about Eimi Fukada. I find her to be very overrated. I agree with the point that she looks like sexbot. With all her plastic surgery she definitely resembles a living doll. But the other takes here are way over the top. Saying that her reign was the worst era in JAV history? Just don't watch her videos then. Problem solved. No one is holding a gun to your head and making you to watch her. Sure she was everywhere for a while but just ignore her then. Also, calling her the worst actress of the last decade is a big stretch. I don't like her but I wouldn't go that far.

I 100% agree with this one. I never understood the hype for Maria Ozawa. Sure her face is nice and her body is fine but nothing really stands overall. And while I haven't seen a ton of her work I was never impressed by what I saw. Her performances felt kinda flat and underwhelming. I think the fact that she could speak English played a big role in her broad international appeal. I have nothing against her but she just does nothing for me.

Medium

This seems like a hot topic of debate here. First off I don't hate fake creampies that much UNLESS it's for a "lifting of the ban" on creampies for an actress which is then extremely pointless and a complete waste of time. Otherwise, as long as they don't look too fake I can live with them. They can certainly help bolster the film such as demonstrating just how horny an actress is by having them milk several loads from a guy. Now I do agree with cumming on their belly being lame. It's the worst place to shoot a load onto as opposed to their face, tits, or even ass. Very weak. And lastly, I also agree with preferring a facial to a fake creampie. Although, I imagine most would agree with that. Why would anyone prefer a fake creampie that is mostly obscured by the mosaic when you could have a nice real cumshot on their face or in their mouth. I'll take a facial over a creampie most of the time with an exception for uncensored videos. In that case, gimme a nice creampie for sure.

Where to start with this one. I definitely agree with Faleno being trash. Sorry, but they are just a poor man's S1. They poach big-name actresses and proceed to do nothing with them that hasn't already been done. Now I don't watch much Ideapocket currently so I can't comment on them but Moodyz and S1 do feel rather homogenized in a sense of using generic plots that get reused over and over. Which to be fair you could maybe say about a lot of studios but it's quite noticeable with these two studios. How many times do we need to see a bosslady in pantyhose for example? Moodyz and S1 felt way more experimental back in the day with some really wacky plots and varied setups. Don't get me wrong they're still enjoyable but I can't help but feel that a lot of their themes are super repetitive.

I somewhat agree with this or at least part of it. I don't think she should retire. I never really want an actress that I watch to call it quits. That's just silly. But to say she's past her prime...well I don't think that's a ridiculous statement to make. I love Yuu Shinoda but current Yuu doesn't really excite me much anymore. The major reason being her massively slimmed-down physique. I think she's lost too much weight. She resembles a twig almost. I'm fine with the slender body type but personally, she's toned down a little too much. All she needs to do is regain a bit more weight. I'm not saying she needs to become thick but just fill herself out a little bit. But anyway, I kinda agree that she's past her prime sadly.

"Yua Mikami is average. She is so popular just because she is a former idol. If she had no history in mainstream she would not be considered a top tier AV star" - Jabhum116

Hmmm...this is a conflicting one. On one hand, I sorta agree that a contributing role in her early success was definitely her former idol background. It certainly gave her a good story and got fans interested. But to say she's only popular because of that is doing a disservice to her as a whole. Sure her story helped pump her up but her physical attributes were just as important. She's got that cute, innocent face that a lot of JAV fans love and of course her body is stellar. So yes her background helped jumpstart her career but now that's completely irrelevant. Plus I still think she would have found success regardless of her story.

Hot

I very strongly disagree here. Now before I begin for those unaware the term "gonzo" in porn basically means straight to the action, no plot or very minimal setup involved. Just raw sex pretty much. And sure that can be fine at times but imo what makes JAV unique from all other porn is the plots. Yes, some are dumb and over the top but that's what makes it special. It can be incredibly entertaining. Some highlights include timestop, body-swapping, fan thanksgiving, and all the variety/gameshow esque themes. There are far too many to name. Without the plots, the action would largely be lackluster mainly due to the censorship. Studios had to get fans interested despite censoring the goodies so they pushed for absurd and wild plots to draw people in. I'm fine with gonzo western porn as there's no censorship but in JAV, it can be really dull. 

"Kaho and Anri were one of the industry's worst performers...." - Myahiko555

I strongly disagree with this take. Don't get me wrong, Kaho Shibuya is prone to making some very uncomfortable looking facial expressions at times. And Anri has her weak moments from time to time for sure. But overall I think they were definitely above average as far as performers go. Kaho's bubbly personality really shined through in many of her films. Meanwhile, Anri started out a little slow but definitely made major strides in the later half of her career. Her enthusiasm would greatly improve overall along with her facial expressions. If anyone is looking for proof of their strong performances then check out MIRD-150, PPSD-050 and MIDE-275 just to name a few.

I mostly agree with these statements. I'll never really understand the massive hype behind debuts. They're rarely ever satisfying to me due to the extreme vanilla scenes and the timid nature of the actress. It can make the whole experience really awkward when the access is super shy and uncomfortable. I've never really been impressed by a debut film myself not even from my favorites like Kurea Hasumi, Marina Shiraishi or Minori Hatsune. There are a few exceptions like Yua Mikami's debut which was great but those are few and far between. I find it's best to wait for a couple releases after their debut before checking an actress out. Plus, it's hard to care for debuts when studios trot out a new one literally every month. Not to mention when they hype them up to be a "once in a generation talent" and they all have the same generic idol look. Get out of here.

This is easily one of the dumbest and most incorrect takes from the whole thread. I'm sorry but have you watched Kurea Hasumi ever in your life? Because I highly doubt that you have. I won't get into the face comments as that's subjective. But saying her performances aren't good enough along with her ass? That's just absurd. And to say she has poor BJ skills is wack. She's more than capable for sure. "Can't even fuck in a sensual way that would make her ass stand out". Just lul. Once again I ask, have you watched her at all? If so you would know that is simply not true. But by far the most ridiculous statement is that she avoids cum. I find this to be one of the dumbest takes from the entire thread. You're complaining about having too many choices?? Having more options is never a bad thing. That's how every industry works. There is absolutely nothing wrong with having more to pick from.

No offense but if you think old JAV is boring then I question how much you've actually watched. Personally, I don't take a side in the whole "old JAV vs new JAV" debate as I think both have their positives and negatives. But to say old JAV is boring overall is just ludicrous. The sheer creativity and originality back then were wild. I also think there was far more variety in terms of plots and themes. Old JAV often felt like a new frontier. One of the things I miss the most about it is the public sex shenanigans. It was incredibly entertaining and sadly now you never see it anymore. New JAV feels neutered to an extent at times in comparison.
