Hentai VS JAV

Just to clarify a little more, "hentai" is specifically an erotic anime made by an animation studio that contains full sex scenes meant solely to instill sexual gratification. Hentai is different from say, an "ecchi" anime, which can contain nudity or lewd antics, but usually never has full sex scenes. So hentai is essentially just JAV, but animated (or CG, though animated is usually more abundant).

The most obvious and noteworthy positive to hentai is the fact that it is fake, of course. Due to it being animated, it can depict more fake and fantastical things that we otherwise couldn't emulate in reality. A hentai could have convincing otherworldly creatures (like elves) or tentacles, or include fetishes/scenarios that would be too graphic or dangerous to perform with real actors. Sure, JAV can do the same (just get ear attachments and you have an elf!) and has created its own impressive scenarios through props (as indicated by the number of more "weird" JAV out there), but given that JAV are limited by a budget, this is either not always possible, or sometimes not convincing.

To be more specific, I'd say hentai is superior when it comes to presenting characters as they can possess exaggerated/non-normal features, like unrealistic and ginormous breast sizes, or ridiculously long tongues, for example. Yes, there are some women that have ridiculously sized breasts, but they are rare, and hentai can go even farther beyond. Hentai also has an advantage when it comes to making completely whole and original environments, like say showing off a large and intricate castle, whereas JAV usually doesn't have the funds for something like that. There's also special effects, such as a magical glow for a wizard's staff or effects during a combat scene, something like this is also costly budget-wise for a JAV. Hentai simply has the upper hand when it comes to producing such fantasy elements, as it is much easier and convenient to depict something otherworldly, exaggerated, or technical through animation.

Hentai being animated also allows for it to contain a unique artistic style, so even if two women are being illustrated with the exact same height, proportions, hair style etc., they can still be uniquely different by way of two different and unique artstyles. Of course, this can be a double-edged sword, for if a watcher doesn't like the artstyle, he probably won't like the entire hentai, whereas a JAV might have some moments the watcher likes and some they hate.

Hentai can also depict things that are gross and overly disturbing in a more tasteful manner by simply drawing it differently or less detailed. This could possibly awaken new fetishes, even if the fetish in question isn't shown as realistically as it should be. Granted, this could be a drawback for some who'd rather witness such graphic content from a realistic perspective, which is where JAV shines.

Another negative aspect to hentai is the fact that hentai has a budget as well. There are many hentai out there that have great premises, but are usually ruined due to having really poor art and animation. Sadly, this happens rather often with hentai as well, which will have some wondering why the hentai was made at all.

While both JAV and hentai are subjected to Japan's draconian censorship laws, hentai often has the advantage of being able to navigate these rules differently, thanks to the magic of animation. After all, this is how the genre of "tentacles" came to be.

Much like hentai, I believe the main positive element to JAV is rather obvious, the fact that it involves real actors/actresses. While hentai is great for "make believe" and fantasies, JAV is best for those who want to see how something would play out in reality. JAV might be more preferable to watchers that prefer beauty standards that are possible in the real world, unlike where every woman is "perfectly beautiful" in hentai (or at least, the many women purposefully drawn to be).

With the implementation of real women, JAV tend to present scenarios that are either relatable or realistic (save for more fetish-focused ones or ones based on existing source material). These sorts of JAV could even be deemed as "motivational", as a man could watch a JAV and possibly think "this is something I could possibly achieve with a real woman", albeit without the often exaggerated elements.

JAV can also be educational and (generally) healthy for male watchers, as it could help them better understand male and female bodies (I've covered this topic at length in another article). Japanese adult movies often cater more to relatability, from both its scenarios to its actors, as male actors can range from buff and handsome to skinny and ordinary, and even older men.

Due to utilizing existing women, JAV leads watchers to realize that most women are not perfect when it comes to beauty. Some girls have blemished skin, flabby cheeks, or pale complexions. Girls might not have the best bodies, with scars, spots, or "meat" in places that some wouldn't prefer. This can be both a positive and negative thing, as humans prefer beauty. An attractive female actress can mean the difference of whether or not a movie sells well. Compared to hentai, the women are almost always "perfect" because they can be made to be so (and thus often require more to be successful), and sometimes watchers of erotic content simply prefer that instead.

Another negative aspect to JAV however is that sometimes actors and actresses will refuse certain sex acts or activities. Sure, a JAV can fabricate/simulate certain things or scenarios with props, but they can't always do it convincingly. Hentai characters don't exist, so they can be put in any sort of situation without any real difficulty. This is one area where hentai really shines, as the boundaries of what the characters can be made to do are endless.

A lot of the time, JAV uses fake penises or semen as well, which can ruin the genuineness for some watchers. Sure, hentai has "fake penises and semen" too technically, but considering JAV use real actors, wouldn't you want to see girls get coated in REAL semen? You'd want most things to be as real as possible, and resorting to using fake props for things that are completely feasible feels like a disappointment.

It also seems like there is a lot more JAV in existence than hentai, which gives it the benefit of variety, but I'd say this is also a double-edged sword, as hentai often gets more English translations in comparison to JAV. Hentai is also rarely ever longer than 30 minutes, whereas JAV is usually an hour minimum. Some JAV can even be longer than 3 hours; couple that with the belief that there are more JAV in existence, and JAV gives a watcher some crazy value here. Even if you don't like one particular moment, that same movie might have some you'll enjoy simply because of how long it is.

There's one other matter with hentai I want to bring up, and while this doesn't affect everyone (and frankly I don't think it's a massive "issue" either), I thought it was worth mentioning. Watching hentai in excess can sometimes make certain watchers grow a distaste for actual women. As noted before, both hentai and JAV can make people realize the imperfections of human beauty, causing some to prefer hentai due to its "perfect women". I've found that watching hentai exclusively can make certain men get accustomed to this "perfect beauty" to the point that they no longer yearn for real women. This is naturally a huge detriment to any human, but, of course, this is neither a permanent thing, nor is it possible in the first place for some people, as some watchers can learn to appreciate both fictional and real women simultaneously, despite their faults.

I realize many will disagree or possibly even find this insulting considering this website is dedicated to JAV, but I'm not saying JAV has no redeeming qualities - sometimes you just want to see a real nude woman, and if you transition to JAV after watching a lot of hentai, sometimes this shift can also be more stimulating. Real women just have a different feel and are completely different from the "fake women" in hentai, so if anything it's both a matter of taste and mood. That being said, I believe the creativity and freedom you have with animation is just simply too good, making hentai the more entertaining medium. Which do you prefer, hentai or JAV?
