JAV have been doing parodies for a long time, most commonly ripping off anime. Once in a while though they would take their cues from popular real life people or events and satirize them. While I usually enjoy these types of parodies, I worry that, with Japan's isolated pop culture, parts of the charm of these films may have been lost on international JAV fans. With that in mind, this review will go over MIAA-260 which parodies Kanna Hashimoto the "once in a millennium idol".

Context and Comparison

First thing I'd like go over before getting into the actual JAV itself is the context around the subject of the film itself. Fukuoka native Kanna Hashimoto, who had always dreamt of becoming an actress, got her start as a member of a local idol group. In May 2013, a fan posted a photo of Kanna performing online which became a hot topic all across the nation. People who saw the pictures gushed over Kanna's angelic beauty and dubbed her as a once in a millennium idol. Capitalizing on this newfound popularity, Kanna accepted requests from directors and producers who flocked to her to get her in their projects. She eventually graduated from the idol group and left her hometown to move to Tokyo and focus on her acting career. Nowadays, Kanna is one of the busiest and most popular actresses in the industry and every time I consume Japanese media, I would find her starring in a new movie, show or commercial.

For the JAV parody, Kanon Kanade, who I think is one of the cuter actress out there, was chosen to play Kanna Hashimoto. I'll get obvious comparison out of the way by pointing out that Kanon is more tan than Kanna. Looking at their faces, Kanna's features are a bit smaller which compliments her face shape and makes her incredibly cute but Kanon isn't really that far behind. Kanon's cheekbones and chin are more pronounced but a big factor to her resemblance to Kanna is their similar eye color, hairstyle and face shape. Aside from these differences, Kanon really does look like the popular actress and people have also noticed the similarity. I have seen deepfakes of Kanna Hashimoto using Kanon as the base due to their resemblance.

I'd give one thing Kanon has that  over Kanna though which is her slender body. Kanna hasn't really shown much of her body, even in her gravure photos she doesn't really expose her midsection. Some fans have also speculated that Kanna Hashimoto has a beer belly and has put on some weight, after an interview where she stated that she has been indulging on alcohol since reaching legal drinking age. Kanon has a slender frame and while her boobs aren't that big, I really like her body. While I think comparing the two is not really fair, I think Kanon is a fine choice to portray Kanna in this parody.

Plot

The plot of MIAA-260 is incredibly simple, a private video collection of the prim and proper idol that reveals their hidden slutty side has been uncovered. I appreciate that even if JAVs don't really have to explain the different premises for each scene, this one has has an overall reasoning that ties all the scenes loosely together. Honestly each scene in this JAV has their own premise which could easily been a full length JAV but I really like that they came up with four different scenarios for the parody.

Production Quality and References

The first scene shows Kanon being chilly after a photoshoot in a rooftop. This is referencing the poster for Kanna Hashimoto's first movie with her in the starring role, Sailor Suit and Machine Gun: Graduation. To warm herself up after the shoot, she gets inside a van with a producer and proceeds to give him a blowjob. I really liked Kanon's performance here, she was great at teasing with her mouth and was really cute while doing it. 

The second scene is a fun one with Shimiken. This is a spoof of infamous Japanese prank shows with Shimiken surprising an unsuspecting Kanon in her home and messing with her stuff. After the cameras stop rolling, he confronts her about a vibrator he found in her bag which leads to them having sex. The Kanna reference here is how Kanon hair is tied up. In TV shows I've seen her in, Kanna always has her bangs clipped on the top of her head when in lounge wear. Kanon doesn't expose her forehead for some reason but I found it funny that the clip stayed on throughout the love making. Shimiken took the lead on this one and I have to give him props for keeping the scene interesting in such a drab environment. He was guiding Kanon through all sorts of maneuvers in that cramped hotel room and she responded well. Kanon also looked like she was enjoying it and it was fun to see her crack a cheeky smile for the camera once in a while.

For the next scene we finally get to see Kanon in the idol costume. She wears it and films a cellphone video of flicking her bean in front of the mirror. Afterwards we have the boyfriend's POV as Kanon gets him off using her mouth, hands and feet. The costume is incredibly close to what Kanna wore when the picture of her performing went viral. I was quite disappointed that they didn't go all the way with the idol costume. The blowjob part was gave me a deja vu of the first scene, but it was still nice that Kanon displayed her excellent teasing by using her hands and feet to finish the guy off.

The last scene was just a typical drinking party scenario with some guy getting lucky afterwards. This doesn't have any references to Kanna, unless you somehow connect it to her infamous drinking habit. Honestly, I disliked this scene the most out of the four. It was a mess, with a bizarre short kissing scene in the restaurant toilet before heading to the apartment. The sudden shifts from a hidden camera POV, to a first person POV to that awful smartphone camera POV when they were in the bedroom was disorienting. I really dislike smartphone POV in porn when it is already shot like a first person POV, it feels redundant and reductive. Aside from that, some positions they go into felt awkward maybe due to the fact that the bed was small and tucked into a corner of the room. 

Missed Opportunity

Whenever I watch JAV parodies I'm always left wishing they spoofed more aspects/events around the source material. For MIAA-260, I wish they parodied the time Kanna Hashimoto was made honorary chief of police for a day in her hometown. The title was given to her to promote safety precautions for the 2017 new years celebrations. I would have loved to see a scene with Kanon in a officer's costume, it wouldn't even be that hard just get an office lady costume slap a hat, a pair of gloves and a an armband and you're set. Sadly that is not the case and we instead got a more generic storyline of post drinking party coitus.

Overall Satisfaction

Overall I liked this film, Kanon performed great and the Kanna Hashimoto references were fun. While I wished they had actual sex with the idol costume, Kanon's cuteness really makes up for it. The scene with Shimiken was superb and Kanon's cute charm really helps specially in the POV shots. For a parody, the JAV was good and it didn't just rely on the actress looking alot like Kanna Hashimoto, but they went out of their way to add little details such as references to her movies and fashion style as well. If you're a Kanna Hashimoto fan or a Kanon Kanade fan or just looking for a JAV that gives off fappening vibes, then I wholeheartedly recommend to you MIAA-260.
