JAV Sales Report - August 2022
Welcome to the August sales report. Can you believe we're at the home stretch now? I've been making progress on the debuts for the year and I'm excited for the final push where I get to watch a ton of them. I'm also secretly dreading how much work it is, I guess good things take time and effort. At any rate let's get on with it, shall we?
Top Actresses
Non is an actress I haven't quite checked out yet but I'll be damned if that won't change in the near future. She's finally starred in the one series I watch everything of so I don't really have a choice. I make it sound like I'm a bit disappointed but I've heard so many good things about Non that I'm a little excited to finally watch her. Especially in a series like this, it seems like it suits the personality everyone says she has. I'm quite hopeful for this video and Non and I would encourage others to grab this one as well.
Jun Suehiro took off this month and it's no surprise if you look a little closer. She's a 2022 Madonna debut who has recently gone freelance. She's got six releases in August, and while her Madonna release might stand out the most it seems like she's got a potentially bright future ahead. It's also possible this is going to be one of the highlights of her career as she might get relegated to B-tier studios but we'll have to wait and see what happens. I find myself always torn in these scenarios where I'm not sure if I would prefer them to go freelance and wind up with potentially mediocre studios or if I'd rather see them stay at the exclusive studio that has higher quality. It's a gamble either way and so far it's too hard to tell.
Himari is an actress I recently checked out and that booty is insane. I think having assets that nice makes it so you can really spike any individual month. I mean, just look at the booties in her August release with Erika Ozaki and Yui Hatano.... I think you can tell which one is Himari's. She's also been in some pretty awesome videos lately, like Rena Momozono's first lesbian video last month. It's hard to complain when she has content like that and as much as I was mostly on a "her ass is too good to ignore" camp before, I think the quality of videos is high enough that watching more of her is an inevitability. And for everyone else, hopefully you're in the same camp and realize she's worth watching too.
Nanami Ogura was a late 2021 debut and we're actually now at her one year debut. I think she's starting to see some success as people get more comfortable with her but also as they start seeing more actually interesting content from her. I'm always hyper critical about an actress' debut because the exclusive studios tend to milk the generic stuff for as long as they can. Nanami actually didn't do half bad in that department though and I think that people are just enjoying her as a schoolgirl, which seems to fit her profile well. We've seen her bounce around on the list and her best showing to date was also due to another schoolgirl video. Maybe schoolgirl just suits her or maybe she has a bit further staying power, we'll just have to wait and find out.
I know last month I was commenting on how popular Kurea is despite how little she's done in months and this time it's Ruka Inaba's time. Like Kurea it hasn't been clear that Ruka is retiring but I can only hope she isn't since I'm a fan of hers. She's been pumping out a lot of good videos over the earlier part of the year and it would be a shame for her to retire. She's got so much going for her and I really hope she sticks around for a long time to come.

By now I think a lot of people know but Kurea recently announced her retirement (which is what the Tweet says). It's always sad to see someone go, especially someone as incredible as her. She's obviously known predominantly for her ass that's out of this world but she's also easily one of the best performers the industry has ever seen. I think it's the more western style her performing has that makes her stand out so much. To me one of the worst parts is how Kurea retired at the top of her game. 2020 was such a good year for her and 2021 looked to be much the same until she started giving up. I'm someone who firmly believes you shouldn't wait until you hit rock bottom to retire but I also don't think you should go out while you're at the top of your game either. Especially with Kurea climbing to be one of my all-time favourites it's just not what I was hoping to see. It doesn't look like she's got a retirement video coming either, which is really sad, but I guess I'll pray until the end of the year that we get one last hurrah. If not, well, there's hundreds of videos in her catalogue that I can satisfy myself with. As for the sales report, it will be a good test to see how long someone can stay on the list.
Nagisa Mitsuki is quite popular this month, and while it's not for the video above, that video's surely going to be the reason she's popular next month. Fans of either her or Rino will notice how much it's shopped, especially when it comes to their boobs. Or even just the copious amount of cum that's so clearly fake. That being said the content looks quite nice with all the lesbian stuff mixed in, and I think a lot of fans of either (or both) are going to be very happy next month.
I somehow seemed to miss the part where Riho does poorly after moving to SOD. I predicted she would start declining since the videos are boring but apparently Riho is either too nice physically or a good performer (which are both true in my opinion), either way people didn't seem to stop enjoying her. Three spots down is basically the same and if these generic videos are doing it for people then probably she'll continue to be very popular.
I know I'm always quick to point out when Eimi does poorly because she's so popular, so this time around I'm here pointing out how well she's doing. Her international success probably isn't coming from her epic 3000 fan hug session but who knows, maybe everyone's been catching her on Twitch channels. At any rate Eimi is always someone who can do well and it's not surprising any time she does. Even when the video is as generic as the one above it still manages to sell. As much as I'm not a fan of her I have to admit that she's on a pace to be an auto-include in any hypothetical JAV hall of fame, which I would think Fried Chikan would agree with me on.
Sometimes I feel sad for the people that only pay attention to R18 because the quality of releases for it are not the same. This month R18 has some generic cheating wife video up top, in fact it's for Graffiti Japan and I wouldn't blame you if you've never heard of them. On the flip side the release she had recently for Bi is incredible, I mean how do you go wrong with Maki and Yuria in bunny suit content? I always find myself torn between a desire to watch my favourites and a desire to avoid generic, plain videos. I don't know how Maki is doing so well on R18 but if Maki was doing well elsewhere, this would totally explain it.
Yuri is an actress that is really all over the place. I think she's one of the better performers but the industry seems to not like her that much and consistently gives her bad videos. As a fan it creates this awful scenario where my propensity to watch her exceeds the number of good videos she produces. The result is that I don't watch her nearly as much as I would like to. You can easily see that when you compare releases she's had for WAAP or NON (which are her current top releases on R18) compared to the releases that have made my top 25 of the year lists for Moodyz, Fitch, or Bi. It's surprising to see and I can only hope things pick up a little more from her.
Minami is doing surprisingly well on R18 right now and I guess if anyone is going to excel from the mess that's going on it's her. She retired earlier this year, before R18 stopped getting updates, so they've got all the great content from her. She's got stuff like a lesbian with Rika Aimi or a futa video for Das. I can't claim to be the biggest fan of her but it doesn't take a genius to see what a last hurrah can do to someone's career. I definitely recall when it happened with Meguri in 2017 and it was actually quite amazing to watch. I also remember that there was a bunch of content in the backlog to watch and I think in Minami's case that was especially true. Lesbian and futa are way more than Meguri did and I'm sure it means there's just plenty of hot stuff left. I would guess this won't be the last time we see Minami despite her retirement.
Top Videos
For anyone who follows the industry a little closely they won't be surprised about Tsubomi being high on the list. That's because this month had her retirement video finally come out, or I guess two of them. That's right, both her Moodyz and Wanz Factory releases have 引退 (retirement) written on the cover and I think they're both doing retirement specials for her. Tsubomi might not be the most popular actress out there right now but over the span of her lengthy career she's been a huge name in the industry. She'd be a shoo-in for a JAV hall of fame too with her incredible career. Her retirement videos look to be about as good as retirement videos can be (I can only recall a couple that were actually good, they're usually all awful). I'll always personally be a fan of her deepthroating, man was she crazy good at it. It's also sad to see a great actress leave but not everyone is going to be a lifer. I guess I can just be happy that Tsubomi gave us many great years and wish her the best.
This video actually looks surprisingly good to me with its beach theme. I think beach themes are super underrated, especially since the industry has largely moved away from public sex. It's got a few photos that give you all you need to know and I think the front cover is fantastically done. Plus it's got Mana Sakura in it, always a fan favourite. I feel like anyone wishing summer was just beginning instead of ending is in store for something great with this one.
Our first place video stars Yotsuha Kominato in her debut video, which released last month. As we all (hopefully) recall, DVDs release a month before the digital copy. Anyway, I don't really get the hype in her personally, but then again I have such strong preferences; they don't call me Oppaira for nothing. Her debut video on the DVD side still placed top 10, which is a good sign for her. She does strike me as looking very much like Mia Nanasawa, so who knows, maybe people are buying into her as a second Mia. At any rate we'll have to see what the coming months look like for her.
I don't know if Saika's videos are casting a magic spell on people or something but somehow she's always at the top of the lists. Like it's insane how she went from redebuting to just completely dominating the charts. This video isn't even her latest nor does it seem remarkable, and yet it jumped 77 spots to be in second place. Someone's going to have to tell me what the hype is, or I guess I'll just have to watch her myself and see what the fuss is about.
We all like busty debuts, right? Is G cup busty enough for you? It's busty enough for me and that makes Hinano a winner in my eyes. They definitely played up the college student vibe with her but I think it suits her well. I think with the recent retirement of Shoko, Moodyz has an opportunity to fill a big spot on their roster. They even managed to nab Arina Hashimoto away from Faleno but something tells me they want another busty starlet to be the replacement for Shoko. Can Hinano blossom into that role? Will one of their other busty stars take up the mantle? Or have we yet to discover the talent? We'll just have to wait and see.
Himeka Iori is an actress I'm really looking forward to. It's not every day you get an actress that busty, especially not at Idea Pocket. S1 and Idea Pocket may be rivals in a lot of ways but S1 always manages to have a much better cast of busty women. Himeka really stands out to me for that reason and again she's got those massive 100cm L cup boobs that steal the show. I almost never watch debut videos so we'll have to see where she is in November or December, but she's certainly at the top of my radar for when the time comes around.
Hina Nitori is the latest gravure actress to move over to S1, right after last month's Kaede Hinata who is still in the top two spots. It's not surprising to see S1 debuts do well and creates a chicken and an egg situation: is it the fact that they debuted at S1 that makes them do well or does S1 attract the best talent? Either way how do you go wrong with an H cup debut? The answer is you don't and S1 just enjoys another successful debut!
In third place we've got a video by K.M. Produce's Bazooka label. They're known for grabbing a handful of actresses who star in a single scene each. This particular one stars Yu Shinoda and AIKA, actresses we've certainly seen plenty of times before, but also stars An Sasakura, a relatively unknown and underrated actress. Bazooka videos can really be all over the place, and this one has a much more simplistic theme than most. At the same time though it's often a good opportunity to get content from a few different nice ladies at a solid price. Sometimes you just want value for your money and who can go wrong with three nice ladies?
Madonna has a ton of actresses and it can be pretty hard to pay attention to all of them. This month R18 has a relatively unknown name there in Honoka Yonekura up top. Her time at S1 was quite brief and she's already left them and retired, another thing that is very common on their roster. I think everyone's goal is for longevity, both as an actress trying to have a career and a studio trying to make money. That being said, when you're Madonna with 30-40 actresses on your roster it's extremely difficult to have the mediocre women continue on it. Sometimes you just have to let them go and Honoka left after nine videos and retired not long after. I think especially with the state of mature women, it feels like the few actresses at the top really dominate and don't leave a lot of room for the rest. At any rate if you're interested in a stepmother theme from a relatively obscure MILF, Honoka isn't a bad choice.
We're finally done with this month's post and as I said, I'm quite happy that we're getting very close to the end of the year and debut season. Anyway that's all for me today, until next time!

What puzzles me is why they stopped added new movies and disabled purchases using DMM points. Leaving this backdoor open (toping up via main website - directly or giftcards via amazon IF you know how) sounds like a typical grey area solution that I'd expect corporations like DMM to love.
