JAV Sales Report - DMM - 2020 Yearly Edition
Finally we've come time to do the top sales post of the year. I apologize for taking entirely too long with this but at least it's finally done. Anyway, this is the kind of sales post I'm most excited to do, where I can really analyze the data and pour over it all. Expect this one to be a little heavier on the data side as we try looking through some trends. Also I would appreciate any insights by people in the comments as to whether they like this format, particularly the graphic with 100 names on it (and if you want more like this). As an important note, we never got digital data for some reason, super disappointed with DMM for not publishing it but we'll work with what we have. With that said let's jump to it.
Top Actresses
To start it off there are 60 actresses returning to the list from the previous year, meaning we have 40 new actresses on the list. I don't think we should be all too surprised by that, we saw quite a few debuts make various lists over the months. Plus, there are always going to be a number of actresses who become more popular over the years and make the list.
Debut Actresses
There are 15 debut actresses on the list. Many of them should be familiar if you've been reading these posts. The 15 names are:
- Nozomi Ishihara
- Nene Tanaka
- Urara Kanon
- Yume Nikaido
- Rikka Ono
- Aka Asuka
- Riri Nanatsumori
- Anna Kami
- Himari Kinoshita
- Erina Oka
- Mei Miyajima
- June Lovejoy
- Hibiki Natsume
- Mahina Amane
- Natsu Tojo
Nozomi Ishihara was the top debut. That shouldn't come as a surprise to many if they were following the earlier sales posts when she was dominating the sales. It seems like she's not doing as well these days being exclusive, something that doesn't surprise me at all. It seems like if you want to be at the top while being exclusive you have to be something special, and Nozomi just doesn't have the staying power of a perennial all-star like Yua Mikami. Still, Nozomi did earn her top spot fair and square and I wouldn't totally count her out.
Yume Nikaido was the top exclusive debut. She did pretty well for herself, particularly with her consistency. I would never have bet on Yume being the top exclusive debut when S1 had a lot of good debuts between Aka, Riri, and Mahina, which makes it all the more impressive. Plus, keep in mind Faleno is a new studio that doesn't have over a decade of experience behind them like S1 does. I don't expect Yume to want to leave, in fact I expect her to renew her contract at Faleno and be one of their main driving forces for a long time to come. She's their second most popular actress next to Arina Hashimoto and if she can compete with a huge name like that (Arina having placed top 10 in 2019 while she was at S1) then she's really quite something.
June Lovejoy is a very interesting name to see on the list. We tend not to see foreigners on the list but June Lovejoy, who is fluent in Japanese, sets herself pretty far apart from the competition. I know June has commented about thinking she won't be that popular because of her niche but that's simply not the case. Scoring top 100 in the industry is a pretty impressive feat no matter what. It's clear to me that people are enjoying her and I think it goes further than just her as a novelty. June is quite thicc and when I compare Western to Japanese I think people are more open to June's physical qualities as a foreigner. It also begs the question if foreigners in JAV is more than just a niche and that more studios should consider it. If I had to guess where June is going to end up next year it's not clear to me. On one hand last year she had that novelty appeal and was a debut actress, so I suspect there were a lot of people watching one or two videos of her just to see what the buzz was. On the other hand, seeing her star in general videos makes her appeal to a lot of people, and June seems like she's up for quite a lot of things that could land her in some very interesting videos.
Hana Himesaki is a notable exclusion to the list of debuts, which comes largely as a product of her popularity skyrocketing at the beginning of 2021 rather than during her debut. I fully expect her to make the 2021 list just off of how her first half of the year has gone. I think it's really interesting to see how debuts turn out two years down the road. Having reviewed nearly 30 debuts from last year it's so easy for them not to stand out when they're new and don't have that experience. Nobody really knows what they're in for when they debut nor can fans predict how they'll be long term. Especially with how much care I've taken in 2020 to track new debuts between how many I watched and the sales posts, we'll be ready to analyze in 2022 and see how the few big names turned out. If you're curious about how some of the debut actresses performed last year and this year so far, there's a more detailed graphic in the April sales post.
Biggest Winners
Ichika Matsumoto absolutely killed it this year. She isn't an actress I watch at all but it's impossible not to note how well she did with her first place finish, having debuted only in 2019 and not making that list. She, like Hana Himesaki, started off as an exclusive for SOD and then went freelance. For Hana Himesaki fans this shows what potential Hana has to dominate the charts. Will Hana be the number one actress? That's a pretty lofty target and she would need to keep up this pace for the rest of the year, but if she does I actually do think it's possible. Anyway, Ichika is defintely doing well for herself, starring in a lot of videos all the way from multi-actress videos to top tier studios. I think Ichika really highlights the stark difference in preferences that Western and Japanese consumers have, where in the west you would expect someone more like Maria Nagai (down in 52nd place) to be more popular. It's not even just Ichika placing highly either, Yui Nagase is very similar (and they do frequently work together) and she was 13th place, so I do think it more of a general trend than a one-off. I expect both Ichika and Yui to be perennial all-stars for many years to come.
Similarly to Ichika we have Rei Kuruki jumping up to the top of the list out of nowhere. It's always interesting to see actresses become extremely popular in a given year and Rei isn't a name I would ever have guessed. I don't recall her much from the sales posts and I'm very surprised to see her beating out names like Yu Shinoda (who rounded out our top 10). Rei, looking at the data, made the list every month since I started doing the sales posts but more often than not wasn't within the top 25. I think one of the things to keep in mind is that we're looking explicitly at the physical sales and Yu Shinoda tends to place higher on the digital sales. When it comes to physical vs digital sales, we tend to see a huge skew to newer actresses on the physical list and veteran actresses on the digital list. Anyway, like actresses tend to work together a lot, so Rei Kuruki has starred in a few videos with Ichika Matsumoto, Yui Nagase, and other seimilar actresses like Erina Oka and Nagisa Mitsuki. If you, like many fans, were a fan of Ichika, you'll probably want to watch Rei as well.
Yua Mikami was able to retain her second place spot on the list. It just goes to show you how much of a powerhouse she is. She has been doing quite well for herself over the years, consistently placing in the top 10 over the past few years. I wonder if Yua can ever get the elusive first place ranking. Those two second places she has are the best she's ever done and while second is nothing to scoff at one has to think Yua is insanely popular and can do it. Another thing that's coming up is whether Yua would be a candidate for a hypothetical JAV hall of fame. Considering she has consistently placed in the top 10 and only seems to be getting more popular I would probably cast a ballot in her favour at this point. I don't know about anyone else but five years is probably long enough considering how short careers are in general. Anyway, point is, Yua is the real deal and you should be watching her. Even I've come around on her, having watched five of her releases last year and even placing one into my top 25. She's good and certainly deserving of a top spot.
Eimi Fukada making third place is a good sign for her. Eimi is a 2019 redebut and she's been making top 10 charts since then, so it's not all that surprising to see her up this high. That being said, a 6 point increase when you're at the top of the charts is quite impressive. Eimi is someone who strikes me as being very divisive because of how much work she's had done, but clearly the fans don't care. It's even more interesting when you look at general trends in the industries. It seems like Japan is extremely open to small cosmetic work (like a nose job) but more significant cosmetic work (like implants) is typically rarer, and yet here's Eimi doing both and excelling. As much as I personally don't like her I'm glad that she managed to find success and is happy with where she's landed. Eimi has a lot of content under her belt so if you find yourself interested there's more than enough good content out there to enjoy. With Eimi I suspect she'll continue to make the top 10 list until she decides to quit, and with how much happier she seems with her newfound success, I expect her to stay in the industry for quite a while.
Rara Anzai definitely killed it last year to come in fourth. Rara actually didn't make the chart in 2019, even accounting for her old name of RION. Jumping up all this way is definitely a good sign for her. Interestingly, I don't think anything has changed with her aside from her getting a little thiccer. While not everyone will like that I think the industry is overwhelmingly positive about it as her sales numbers are off the charts. I find it very interesting for a country like Japan that tends to dislike thicc, especially when you compare Rara next to our first place finish, Ichika. Still, Rara is just this enigma that no matter how much she refuses to even try in her videos or how bland they are everyone just eats it up because she's just so damned hot. Rara's place on the list depends entirely on how many videos she actually releases. She took off several months last year (and this year too) and still came fourth, which is downright absurd. Just seven releases got her fourth place whereas Eimi Fukada had over 100 releases with her as the featured actress and got third. It really paints a picture when you see just how popular individual Rara releases are. With three releases so far this year she's probably honestly done enough already to make the list, but we'll see how consistent she releases and where the dust settles.
The industry is also showing just how much they appreciate a nice ass with some of the names on the list. We have names like Yu Shinoda, Nao Jinguji, Ruka Inaba, Akari Neo, Kurea Hasumi, Mana Sakura, Akari Mitani, Tsukasa Aoi, and Elly Akira all in the top 50. While not all of them made my top 10 asses list the fact of the matter is that a good ass goes a long way, more than a nice pair of breasts it seems. Even as someone who picks tits over ass in that age old debate, I think that a good ass is more universally loved. Kurea and Yu, featured in the video above, are no strangers to top ass lists and also no strangers to each other. I expect them to keep working together and if they can produce content of this quality, they'll keep making the top of the charts.
Saeko Matsushita is a really interesting case as she is in 18th place and also retired. She retired half way through the year too and yet she still managed to place extremely well. I credit it a lot to her having good staying power as she continues to sell well month after month. She's just one of those actresses that you like so much you go purposely looking for older videos to watch just to scratch that itch. We all have actresses like that and Saeko is definitely that person for the industry, being the highest placed actress who is retired.
Miu Nakamura climbed a whopping 77 spots this year, the most of any single gain on the list. That's a lot of spots to jump and if I had to guess it would be because she's shooting more regularly. She's still only releasing every other month, so to place top 25 while barely even releasing videos really says something. I do wonder whether Miu would be more popular or not if she released every month. While part of me says that she has a loyal fanbase and she absolutely will, another part of me thinks that fans are more willing to buy her content because she doesn't release that frequently. When actresses release several videos a month it's hard to keep up, and if you're someone like me who watches a lot of actresses it can be hard to keep up even at one video a month. However, keeping up with Miu for just the one video every other month is definitely much more reasonable and I honestly wouldn't even hate it (unless perhaps Miu was my number one favourite).
Biggest Losers
Now we take a look at some of the actresses who's career took a turn for the worse this year.
I'm torn as to whether to put Yui Hatano in the biggest winners or losers section but hear me out before you jump to conclusions. As popular as Yui Hatano is I think this fifth place finish is a big deal because it's actually her worst finish in the last seven years! It's insane to think that Yui in 5th place is a let down and yet that's exactly what it is. If your name is Yui Hatano I think anything less than second is a letdown. There's a reason many are considering her the greatest of all times and this chart is the proof. People can talk all they want about Ai Uehara's triple crown but there's no competing with the longevity Yui Hatano has. Just to be absolutely clear: Yui Hatano is still insanely popular and still had a good year, it's just that her expectations are really, really, high. I'll be very curious to see if Yui can have a better 2021.
Sora Shiina dropped 68 spots to barely make the list. Last year she took her talents over to Faleno as an exclusive actress for them. I would say that was probably not a good choice for someone with her kind of spunk as I don't think Faleno is the right studio for her. Faleno more closely resembles S1 (especially with several former S1 actresses) and Sora just isn't fit for a studio like that. To be fair, the rating is probably partially affected by not including accurate Faleno sales figures since Faleno also distributes on their own platform, but I'm not convinced that alone accounts for the stark drop the chart shows. Just look at Arina Hashimoto, she managed top 25 finish in the same boat as Sora working exclusive over at Faleno. I think Arina makes way more sense for Faleno. I'm sure Sora's making bank there but I think either Faleno has to grow out of their shell a little or Sora should probably find a different home. If I'm Faleno she probably isn't worth the price they're paying for her, and Sora should really go back to other studios like Wanz Factory or Moodyz that better suit her personality.
Yumi Kazama dropped 66 spots to also barely make the list. I pointed out in a previous post that I think Yumi's best years are behind her. While she's still one of the biggest names in the industry it seems like others are starting to agree with me. I'm just always a little disappointed in her content. Maybe part of that is it's difficult to find new things for her to do, her debut film was on VHS for crying out loud (do people even remember VHS?)! To me it just seems like Yumi doesn't have the same drive that she once had. I feel like she's just not bringing her A game to every shoot anymore, and when you're counting the number of releases in the thousands it's not hard to see why. What's so interesting about Yumi finally dropping so far down the list is just how big of a deal that actually is. I think the chart speaks for itself, Yumi was on the list the entire last decade and averaged 22nd place and now she's barely even making the list. I wouldn't ever count Yumi out, those decades of experience certainly count for something, but Yumi is seriously going to have to step her game up if she wants to go back to her former glory, or at this rate just to stay on the list!
Asuna Kawai dropped 54 spots to also barely make the list. She spent a large period of time on a break last year so it's not that surprising. I would expect her sales to jump up for next year but as I've mentioned she isn't going to be releasing on DMM anymore so she won't make the list next year either. I really wish that I had a good way to rank sales data from other sources but that simply isn't the case as I have no way to correlate sales data from a single studio to the bigger picture, even if they do release such data. I may have to look at alternative sources for ranking such as BookMate. BookMate, for those that don't know, is a store in Japan and they release monthly sales figures much the same way that I do with these graphics. These posts are a little lengthy already though so I doubt I'll be adding them to the mix. We'll just have to accept that these posts only using DMM/R18 data doesn't show a complete picture.
Nanami Matsumoto dropped 59 spots having placed 5th the year before. 2019 was a fantastic year for her and I totally agree with her placing really high then and not so much in 2020. 2020 really wasn't a good year for her and fans certainly saw that. I wouldn't be surprised if she could jump back in 2021 but she's got a long way to go. Nanami strikes me as someone who can do well if she releases a lot of content but she simply hasn't been doing enough to get the job done. With only a couple of releases per month, and with quite a few mediocre studios that she works with, the probability of good releases just isn't high enough. That highlights one of the major points for freelancers, that they're popular because they release enough content that people can find something to enjoy as opposed to watching the one release they have. I still enjoy Nanami but I can only hope the second half of 2021 pans out for her.
Mio Kimijima has been incredibly popular since her redebut. She came back in late 2017 and made the sales chat with under four months of sales and hasn't looked back since - until now. Dropping 50 spots down is a really big deal for someone who has done so well these past couple of years. I can't say that her 2020 looked much different than any other year. I think she may have steered some fans away from her as she moved even more toward her tomboy looks with what seems like shorter hair. While actresses with short hair can (and do) perform well there does seem to be a limit, and Mio seems to have crossed that limit. Mio has always had short hair though so I'm not sure that was the cause but I really can't think of anything else.
I thought Akari Mitani had another solid year and yet the industry pushed her aside to make room for quite a few others, dropping from third place all the way down to 27th. It's not as if dropping 24 spots is a huge deal compared to some of the other drops but it's more of a concession that dropping that many spots from being so popular the year before is a big deal. I don't doubt Akari's ability to do well but I do somewhat question if people are finding her content a little repetitive at times. She's basically a dual exclusive at Honnaka / DAS these days and one has to wonder if that's a bit limiting for her. Another thing to consider as well is that because her year really was good, it begs the question how big of a drop it really was. It might simply be the case that the top has very little difference between them, for all we know it might only be a few dozen sales differentiating them.
The chart itself doesn't give us the full picture as there are names who missed the list completely after having appeared very highly in the year prior. Ai Hoshina is a name that failed to make the list, but it's hard to fault her for having not been active part of the year. 2020 was a really weird year with actresses taking time off so it's really not surprising to see a few names miss like that. Touka Rinne is probably the most notable name to miss the list completely, I would say. Even though Touka was on break for a while she still had a steady stream of releases coming out, even at the end of the year. Again, it's hard to take stock in this metric as much only because of so many abnormalities last year.
Oppaira's Biggest Underperformers
I thought I'd include a section that isn't based so much on stats and has more of a personal opinion flair to it. Stats are great but opinions are also great, and I write even more opinion pieces than I do sales posts, so this is a great way to merge the two together. In this section I'll list out a few actresses I think are far lower on the list than they should be.
Hibiki Otsuki at 55th is a travesty I tell ya. She's every bit as good as Yui Hatano is and yet she seems to constantly live in her shadows. Even last year when she finished 24th she was still living in Yui's shadow. I know the industry is well aware of how good she is but I still think it's tragic to see her not get the attention she deserves. She's such a good performer and one of the prettiest actresses out there, and people ought not to forget about her.
Tsubomi at 79 is also fairly crazy to me. Tsubomi is someone who can legitimately contend for greatest actress of all time and yet she's way down on the list?!?! I don't really know what's going on there but if I had to guess I might fathom that Tsubomi isn't as attractive for covers as the likes of Rara. It's not like Tsubomi suddenly became a bad actress or something, she's still pumping out good videos. One of her videos made my top 25 list last year and she's starring alongside some of the most popular actresses these days (both Eimi Fukada and Ichika Matsumoto this year).
AIKA at 76th is also a huge decline and huge underperformance for her, I think. AIKA is very unique with her appearance and she attracts a lot of fans because of it. I absolutely know why she's so low on the list and that's because of Kaho Imai. I think a lot of people don't have enough room in their list of favourites to include multiple gal actresses so AIKA fans are converting to Kaho fans. I don't agree with that, even as someone who is a much bigger fan of Kaho than AIKA. I think that AIKA does a way better job of that gal personality/look and it shows in her videos. I think people are missing out on the one true gal and they ought to go back. Especially this year as we're seeing more tanned actresses like REMI, Ranka, and Remon Sawa, people need to not ride some silly hype train and remember that AIKA is still a much better performer than all of these newcomers. If you're looking for this gal look you really should be watching AIKA.
Yuri Honma is, in my opinion, the most notable actress to not make the list at all. Her 2020 was absolutely fantastic and easily the best year of her career. She came back full force and shot a ton of videos, but more than that she had a ton of amazing videos. Although she wasn't retired before the effect really was akin to actresses like Eimi Fukada, Mio Kimijima, or Rena Fukiishi just redebuting out of nowhere. There's a good reason I listed her the second best actress of 2020 and 2021 is continuing on the same trend as last year. At this point I can only hope people wake up and realize they're missing out.
Oppaira's Biggest Overperformers
Similar to the last section I'll be pointing out a few actresses here who I think aren't deserving of their top spots based on my opinion.
Nozomi Ishihara is in 7th place and I think she's overrated. Her sales have already shown a pretty big dip since she went exclusive at Moodyz and I don't think she should be quite that high. I would still expect her to make the top 100 next year but more like the bottom half. Her placement was really riding the success of her debut and not so much her actual merits, I think. I know I'm using a graphic showing how her sales are tanking but I gave her a D rating when I reviewed her so my thoughts on her are well documented. Maybe that's a bit of a hot take and people disagree but when you're talking about being a top 10 selling actress you've got to be something special. I look at actresses she's edging out, like Yu Shinoda and Nao Jinguji, and I just don't see how. They're just so much better than her and I don't expect her debut hype to propel her next year. Maybe it's just a case of the industry really loving debuts and we'll likely see when she drops quite far in 2021.
Urara Kanon is also someone I think is way higher than she deserves to be. Urara strikes me as a one-trick pony and that trick is her hairy vag. It's insanely hairy, the hairiest I've ever seen in JAV. It makes her extremely unique the same way June Lovejoy is unique. I think people can watch her once or maybe twice for the novelty but it does wear out rather quickly (speaking from experience). By the fifth time it's no longer doing anything and you just don't care enough to watch her on that merit alone. Not everyone can be a Rara Anzai where you're so attractive people don't care if your videos are good at all, and Urara just simply isn't that kind of an actress.
Akari Neo is definitely overperforming at 16th place. I like her but, like Urara, I think most of her value is in a single physical quality (her nice ass). I don't think that quality alone is enough to put an actress at the top of the list and they really need other aspects to be good. When I see names like Kurea Hasumi and Nao Jinguji in the top 25, I know it's far more than just a nice butt that does it for them. I do like Akari but I'm not delusional enough to think that she's deserving of a spot way up this list. Like when I think about Akari beating out Kurea Hasumi I just have no idea how that happens.
Mako Oda, even despite being at the bottom of the list in 85th place, is someone I think is overrated. I think Mako isn't nearly as good as people think and I've been saying that for a while. She's a pretty poor performer, always has been too. Most of her value is in how great she is physically, and I do concede that she's quite well rounded and attractive. She's certainly no Rara though and the sales definitely show as much. Mako is someone who I think would benefit from doing a lot more unique work rather than the generic stuff she tends to do. When your releases are all generic housewife stuff and you can't even act any better than your average newcomer you're asking to be forgotten. It's exactly like it is with Rara, I watch her because she's hot and not because I think the videos will be good, and sooner or later I think everyone else will realize she's overrated.
Top Videos
This graphic says a lot about the composition of videos on the chart. We had actual debut videos be almost a third of the videos in total, and 2020 debuts in total made up over half the chart. It's fairly common knowledge in the industry that debuts make very good money and this is the proof anyone ever needed to justify it. When you think about how many insanely popular actresses are out there, like Yui Hatano, Eimi Fukada, and Yua Mikami, it's incredible that newcomers can compete, especially with someone like Yui who has a decade of experience under her belt.
Compilations make up a relatively small portion, which I'm not surprised by. People love to follow their favourites so they're watching stuff as its released. What really took me was Saeko Matsushita having two different compilations on the list. People really can't seem to get enough of her and it feels like a lot of people missed the boat on her. I actually do have a guess for why, which is that Saeko only joined Idea Pocket at the tail end of her career. She has just under 70 solo videos to her name over a career spanning 5 years, which is more or less about the one video per month mark (factoring in image videos and VR). Two of her three IP videos are among her last five videos and I think people only then started to notice her. People may not have given much attention to someone who spent the majority of her career at Attackers, but the IP crowd is a much bigger crowd. I think they realized she was great and then started combing through her older releases. It also explains why the compilations are so popular since you're not following her career anymore and can instead focus on the value it offers. If you're someone who hasn't seen Saeko, I encourage you to do like everyone else and grab one of her compilations.
I decided to take a look at the top studios and unsurprisingly S1 was the clear winner. I would give you a chart but honestly it wasn't even close, they had more than double the next closest. For reference, S1 had 33 and SOD was second with 14. I point it out time and time again but a big roster of exclusives really does them wonders and it's hard to compete with them. Even if you look back to the list of actresses, they had over 10 actresses make the list, which is extremely impressive that a single studio is capable of such success.
While we have actual physical sales data in terms of who was the most popular I thought it would be interesting to take a look at which actresses appeared the most times on the list. While you might expect some of the top tier freelancers like Yui Hatano or Eimi Fukada to be up on this list the data actually overwhelmingly supports exclusives. If I had to guess, part of that probably comes from the fact that exclusives are releasing for big name studios with good production value. They put a lot of stock into individual releases and fans can also put a lot of stock into a single release the same way. Part of the value of freelancers is that people can grab whichever releases they fancy and that different people will enjoy different releases, whereas if the actress is exclusive they have little choice. Rara was unsurprisingly the number one actress by this metric, which is made even more impressive when you consider the fact she had only seven solo releases last year. Only her January release failed to make it, which means in some cases both the standard and Blu-Ray Disc release made the list.
One of the things I have always been curious about with respect to sales is if the sales from month to month were consistent or not. The first place in one month might be significantly more popular than the first place in a different month. It would mean that we can't particularly compare the sales between months because we just don't know the underlying numbers. To be fair it can be hard to gauge since videos can be on the lists in multiple months but this would be a good starting point for us to tell.
EBOD-765 (left) only made the DVD charts in August, and was 5th, so it gives us a good way to compare against another that only made the chart once. We can compare directly to BGN-060 (right) that was 4th place in September. What we see is EBOD-765 placing 48 spots higher than BGN-060 on our yearly post at 36th and 84th respectively. It would be a pretty natural conclusion to make that months just don't directly compare and that we have to talk about them in isolation. Honestly it's just so hard to tell what's going on with the sales because we don't see any actual numbers, just these aggregated reports.
One other related thing we see is November's 4th place release, Ai Kano's debut, showing up as 23rd on the yearly sales chart. Notably that it sold significantly better than what November's actual first ranked DVD was, and by 73 spots. I'm certain it's showing up like that because of it continuing to sell in successive months, and even in March 2021 it was 23rd on the charts. It's really important to remember that the charts I show only list the top 10 DVDs so many will continue to sell for months down the road.
I decided to check, for my sake, how many of the videos on the list I had seen. I have seen a total of 13 different videos on the list. If you ignore compilations (I don't watch compilations) and remove videos that appeared twice on the list (in both standard and Blu-Ray Disc), the percentage is 15%. That's really not that great for someone who comments on these videos a lot, especially when the majority of what I did see was from S1. That being said, that number is marred a bit by the fact that I tend to watch very few actual debut videos of actresses, and we already know 31 of the videos were their actual debut releases, so that was just never going to be the case. I guess I'll just have to pay attention to releases selling well and watch those.
Conclusion
I'm glad you could join me for the yearly sales post. I love doing more statistical analysis like this, it's fun to see who really is at the top, how things break down, etc. I hope it wasn't too full of numbers and charts to be enjoyable.
For those who get this far, I'd love some feedback on the infographics used for this. Each had 100 entries on it and I feel like it's a little too much and crowded. For the yearly sales post I think that this makes sense but for the regular monthly ones I think the 25 for actresses and 10 for videos makes more sense. If you feel differently and want to see more then make sure your voice is heard in the comments down below. Until next time!

Unfortunately I didn't have a good way to grab R18 top 100 sales data, which I have since corrected and should be able to do this year. For DMM digital sales they actually didn't publish that information this year for some reason.
As for the top 100 data monthly, it's something I've asked a few times in my sales posts. It's a lot of information to consume, the graphics from this are evident enough. I can also only write so much before the posts get too big. My sales report posts are already over 3000 words on average, which is quite lengthy for an article. This one was over 6000! I think it's probably left leaving as it is or else I'll never have time to write anything else. Maybe I could come up with something that at least allows people to see the full top 100, because I can make those graphics pretty easily.
