JAV Sales Report - September 2020
Another month another sales post. Come see how the September 2020 sales shaped up!
Top Actresses
For DMM's physical sales two main groups jump out at me: actresses who weren't on the last month's top list and debuts.
Mana Sakura, Suzu Honjo, and Iori Kogawa are all pretty well known actresses, so jumping up this far isn't all that surprising. Mana and Iori have both been around for eight years so it's rather unsurprising to see them do well at any time. A good release or an extra image video or VR could easily tip the scales for them. I think it instead shows how many top tier actresses there are. In the past five months there have only been 36 actresses who have made the top 100 physical sales every month, so it really doesn't surprise me to see this kind of volatility. I would think physical sales are generally more volatile because eye candy on covers can make a big difference.
With debuts we have quite a few: Nozomi Ishihara, Nene Tanaka, Aka Asuka, Rikka Ono, Yume Nikaido, Konomi Nagisa, Mei Miyajima, Kaname Momojiri, Himari Kinoshita, and Riri Nanatsumori. We're inching closer and closer to my posts about debut actresses, in fact next month we'll get the first of those. Nene and Riri I have already seen and I know Yume and Aka are two I've had my eyes on. Glad to see a lot of actresses that are doing well for themselves, it always inspires a lot of confidence in deciding to watch them when they do well. Nozomi isn't someone I'm particularly interesting in watching but I am strongly considering now that she's been at the top this long. I wouldn't be surprised to see Aka drop off next month, something tells me she's a RION replacement for now but people will quickly realize she isn't and get bored of her. Nene, on the other hand, has been killing it this year. I won't spoil my opinion on her but I will point out that she's been in a ton of videos and it's pretty hard to ignore her.
On the digital front for DMM we see a lot of the same names as we often do. I find the digital sales tend to reflect more of an all-time favourites trend, which is especially true given how many of the more popular names throughout history show up. Yui Hatano, Kurea Hasumi, Hibikio Otsuki, Aika - even a retiree in Aki Sasaki. If there's any interesting names on here I think it's Tomoe Nakamura. I've enjoyed her for a while now but I think she hasn't historically been that popular. If I were guessing I would say her latest is a big reason why she's up there. An actress doing anal is always a big deal and I have a feeling that more people have been checking her out as a result. I expect her to drop off the list next month but then again she was 60th last month. I'm willing to believe that was just from presales of her anal video because she hasn't otherwise made the digital sales list all year, or even last year for that matter.
Similarly we see R18's list having much the same: a solid list of top favourites. Remu Suzumori and Yu Kawakami stand out for jumping up so many points but a couple of names jumping up really isn't a big deal. Remu was a pretty big deal last year and despite not wanting to watch her the popularity she had made me watch her. I found I didn't like her at all but it's always personal preference. Speaking of which, we see a couple of significant drops for Yua and Hitomi dropping down to 16th and 17th respectively. Panking rated Hitomi's latest quite high, though others like myself didn't give it nearly that good of a rating, and I think the broader audience agreed. Yua's release, on the other hand, was quite good, so I'm very surprised she dropped so much. It might not be top 25 of the year good but it's awfully close (and you should definitely check it out). In fact, what makes Yua dropping so much so surprising is that her video is actually ranked 3rd on R18's list. I'm guessing that she typically has a lot of sales from other videos that just didn't happen this month.
Top Videos
Looking at the top DVD sales we still see the trend of debuts showing up, this month topped by S1's Aka. That's pretty unsurprising to me, there was a lot of hype around her debut and especially with RION disappearing I think the market is primed for another busty actress from S1. I'm glad to see Rena Momozono still doing well (3rd place), she's someone I've been meaning to check out since she redebuted. Seeing perennial big names like Yua and Arina on top isn't surprising in the least.
Speaking of debuts, not a whole lot this month that is captivating. Honoka Kimura looks interesting only because she looks like she might only be half Japanese, but I'm not particularly interested myself. I also don't see much in the way of debuts next month that look promising either. That's actually okay with me since I tend to avoid watching late debuts. Since I generally like giving them a bit of time to get some experience I'm happier not to have to watch any debut videos. There's still a bit of time left for some debuts to show up but it would be quite unlikely for me to watch November or December debuts in time for my posts on debuts.
With top digital video sales we see a lot of omnibus titles, the interesting title on the list being the lengthy Aika Yamagishi release in first. I think most people came to the conclusion that even with hours and hours of masturbation scenes that the price is just too good to pass up on. It's still priced the same as her other releases so with 6x the content it's hard to go wrong.
R18 had some more spicy results. We see both Yua Mikami and Ai Sayama making the list with two solid releases. I thought Yua's was quite a bit better and as I pointed out earlier I would highly recommend it if you're a fan of her. We also see a smattering of other popular actresses including Minami Aizawa. Minami has taken some significant time off recently, this is only her fourth video this year! It's pretty unsurprising to see her do well with a release, people like myself have been itching for more of her. I wouldn't call it a particularly good theme but I think fans will take any Minami at this point.
R18 also has some interesting results with foreigners including MEYD-622 (half-Japanese) and CRDD-002 (Caucasian). I was particularly surprised to see Mia Hanesaki do this well considering it was her debut video, but I think I was even more surprised she didn't show up elsewhere. She's not on the DMM top list and she wasn't in previous months either (since DMM does presales) and that to me is surprising. The domestic market has shown itself to be extremely friendly toward foreigners with the way actresses like Melody Hina Marks and June Lovejoy and I've seen them be favourable to half-Japanese actresses in the past as well. Seeing her miss the mark this month is just a bit surprising to me.
And there we have another sales post in the books. Nothing too crazy this month, but we are inching closer to the end of the year. DMM publishes yearly results so I'll be interested to see what those show when we get them. Until next time!
