Oppaira's Debut Review Roundup - 2019

Published : September 26th, 2021 Written by Oppaira

As many undoubtedly know I run a series in which I look at a bunch of debuts each year. One thing I've noticed is that I rarely look back at them and see how they're progressing. You'll know if an actress is good because I'll do one of my other posts, but a post like my Spotlight posts take a long time for me to prepare. As a result, there are so many actresses that never get the right attention after they debut.

This is a new series that I intend to run twice a year. I'll do one for last year's debuts and one for debuts from two years ago. For this year, that means looking at 2019 debuts and 2020 debuts. Basically, we're looking at debuts one year after their debut and then again two years after their debut. This post is evidently for 2019 debuts and in a couple weeks there will be a similar one for 2020 debuts. These posts will be focused on actresses that I've seen, but I'll try and point out some doing well that I haven't watched as well.

With that in mind, let's go take a look.

Actress Status Overview

First off let's take a look at the high level of what went on in the past two years from the actresses I reviewed.

Here we can see that a good chunk of the actresses I watched retired but a majority of them are still active. I credit that to waiting longer in the year to pick debuts to watch; the more I wait the more I can look at their career as an indication of whether they're in it for the long haul or not. Not every actress is destined to have a long 10+ year career like many of my favourites, especially when you watch them at the beginning of their careers and can't exactly tell what the long term forecast is. That being said, I imagine if I picked the debuts a lot sooner we would see a much higher retired number. I also wouldn't expect many actresses to redebut and the pandemic has significantly increased that, so I think in future years that number will be lower. Let's take a quick peek at some of those retirements.

Retirements

It's really difficult to try and predict whether an actress will retire based on how their career is going. To some degree success is certainly a factor, and an actress like Kaho Imai who is frequently on the sales posts is unlikely to leave amidst a ton of success. However, it can be very difficult to predict success early on, especially if you're watching only after a handful of videos. Even actresses that are having a pretty good time can disappear, it's just how the industry goes. While I pointed out eight of them retired, I'd like to highlight some of them.

Kanna Shinozaki

Kanna quickly became one of the premier thick, freelancing MILFs. Very reminiscent of someone like Chitose Saegusa or Hana Haruna, albeit with smaller boobs. While the JAV industry typically isn't all over these thicker actresses like Westerners might be, I thought she had a pretty solid career going. Obviously her GES was a highlight for me but I still managed to watch half a dozen videos and rate some of them quite highly. I was definitely a little sad to see Kanna go, but with Chitose's return last year I've been in good hands in the thicc department.

Chiharu Minagawa

Chiharu is someone who interestingly redebuted and then retired yet again. She had what looked to be a promising career ahead of herself working for SOD. SOD is a big studio and they have a lot of big names, like Mana Sakura, Suzu Honjo, and Iori Kogawa. More than simply working for SOD, Chiharu had a pretty nice figure all-around, and I honestly think she could have done well had she stuck it out. I found it particularly interesting that she redebuted as a Madonna exclusive trying to re-image herself as a MILF. It's hard to tell why things went the way they did but I also a bit bummed about her. That being said, like with Kanna, there have been some similar actresses filling any void she might have left, like Touka Rinne and more recently Moa Maeda.

Amina Nanjou

Amina debuted for Madonna and really wasn't anything more than what you would expect from a MILF debut there. I found myself really liking Amina, which I guess comes from my general like of busty MILFs. Unfortunately Amina disappeared after just three videos. While it was definitely sad to see her go, it was at least a good chance for me to learn that I shouldn't be so hasty with watching actresses. You'd have thought what happened with Riho Agatsuma earlier in the year would make me realize but when I think about just how many debuts Madonna has each year, it was definitely a good reflecting point. I've since made a point to pay much more attention to debuts and generally be more selective in who I pick. That's a large reason as to why I wait until the end of the year to do my posts, I'm mostly watching actresses in the last couple of months.

Late Watches

Another fun category to take a look at are actresses I missed watching in their debut year. Part of the fun of picking debuts to watch is trying to pick the best actresses or the ones I'll enjoy the most. I won't always get it right and I find it particularly interesting to see who I wound up missing.

Honoka Tsujii

Honoka Tsujii is someone I've come to enjoy quite a bit now that I've had the opportunity to see her a few times. Honoka had an inauspicious debut, disappearing for eight months after her first video and appearing at the end of the year, which is how I never ended up watching her back then. It wasn't until later in 2020 when she did her GES video that I first watched her, but after that I was instantly interested in more. She's pretty and has huge tits, what more could I want out of her? Part of what I've been enjoying is the variety she has been seeing. She's got plenty of standard stuff but then all sorts that you don't necessarily easily get, like a lesbian with Yui Hatano, a training video with Yuri Oshikawa, and even BBC. I think it's just as important that an actress' career takes off as it is they're attractive otherwise you get bored watching lame videos. Honoka is someone who people should definitely be paying attention to now that she's settled into a good groove.

Maron Natsuki

Maron was someone I actively avoided back in 2019. She was on the short list for the last few spots until I found out she had fake tits. I'm not overly a fan of breasts like that and I just couldn't get into her. I wound up watching her for the same reason I saw Honoka Tsujii, she stared in a GES video. That kind of wasn't surprising for me, Oppai always tries to get some big newcomers into the series when they can, so of course when she left Idea Pocket to go freelance they were all over her. I can't say that I've turned into a huge fan, her tits are still a bit of an issue for me. That being said, she has been turning out to be quite popular in the industry getting lots of good offers from small and big studios alike. In fact, she recently starred in Wanz Factory's 10 Min series, which is kind of a big deal. If you're someone that's into Maron's fake boobs (and I know a lot of you are) then she's definitely someone to watch.

Aina Shinkawa

Aina is someone I watched quite late too, she debuted pretty late into the year and for Prestige's Kanbi label. Kanbi is a debut label and typically has actresses that are a little older (i.e. in their 30s). They've had debuts like Sumire Ichinose, Kanna Shinozaki, and of course Aina Shinkawa. I find that the label has very mixed success with its actresses, sometimes they go on to be quite successful like Kanna Shinozaki, other times they're done after one video. That's how Aina turned out to be a late watch for me. Anyway, the big thing with Aina is her glasses. There are so few actresses who wear glasses all the time so I tend to take what I can get. Aina also doesn't wear glasses all of the time, so if that isn't your thing then you've got options. Another big thing is how nice her ass is, maybe not top of the class but certainly very enjoyable. If you're into the whole younger MILF thing like I am, Aina is certainly one of the better options from 2019.

Missed Names

One of the categories I wanted to look at were debuts I never watched that did well. I'm obviously biased with the actresses I watch so it's important to at least glance at a couple making a name for themselves.

Ichika Matsumoto

I'm not a fan of Ichika, which I guess is a hard thing to say when I've never seen her. I certainly do have a type when it comes to actresses and Ichika isn't it; you can see the comparison to someone I do like in the first video above. That being said, it's impossible to ignore Ichika's success. She literally placed first on the sales chart last year and considering I write monthly sales reports... I suppose I probably ought to check her out. At any rate, if you were wondering who the most popular debut of 2019 is, it's Ichika by a landslide. She wasn't always that popular though, she started off as an exclusive actress (and it's hard to top the charts as one). A lot of her success has come from her working pretty hard, releasing video after video and working with a ton of popular actresses. Being able to really do all sorts of stuff when you're a freelancer is just a night and day difference. Whether you're not a fan of Ichika like myself or you are a huge fan, the fact of the matter is that Ichika is insanely popular and she's probably worth checking out.

Mitsuki Nagisa

Mitsuki is also someone I just haven't really gotten into. I would agree she's also not particularly my type but I also just watch so many actresses that some are bound to slip through the cracks. Like Ichika, Mitsuki performed really well last year, placing top 10 in the sales. Also like Ichika, Mitsuki has had a lot of success from working with other actresses. I bet the videos she's done with Ichika and Rei Kuruki (another 2019 debut who placed 9th last year) helped her popularity a ton, although unlike Ichika and Rei she actually did appear on the charts the same year she debuted (and within the top 20 to boot). Mitsuki seems like a bit of a surprise to me considering how little the people I know talk about her, but hey, you really can't argue with the facts of how popular she is. If you're someone who liked Ichika or are interested in watching Ichika, Mitsuki is also someone to check out.

Other Notable Actresses

Sachiko

Sachiko was legitimately someone I wasn't very interested in after the first watch. I have been known to change opinions about actresses along the way and Sachiko definitely was someone who gained a lot. I think part of it for me was how unique her look is. Her youthfulness coupled with her glasses gives her a pretty unique look that has kept me interested. I wouldn't say I'm really huge on Sachiko but every once in a while I find myself looking at an interesting video of hers and taking a gander. I suppose to some extent working with others has been helpful for her, such as working with Ruka Inaba and Yuria Yoshine, two other debuts I was a fan of. Still, the fact that I was pretty sure I wouldn't watch her again and instead have found myself watching a handful of videos is quite something. I hate being wishy washy about the ratings I give but when I rate someone as poorly as I did Sachiko and then find myself watching her again, I think it makes me pause a bit on how harsh a critic I am.

Nao Nakano

Nao is someone I had mixed feelings about at the time I watched her. A big thing for me with Nao were her fake tits, I'm always someone who prefers real tits. Nao's tits are bit interesting though because although they're clearly fake there's some maturity to her that makes them sag in ways that they're actually not half bad sometimes. Another big thing I remember was feeling quite mixed about her maturity, she came off as being one of the prettier, younger mature ladies (she's currently 40) but there were some telltale signs of her age that weren't great to see. I think ultimately I've gotten past both of those and realized she's not a half bad actress. It certainly helps that she's no longer an exclusive actress for Tameike Goro and has been freelancing instead, it allows her to both improve much faster and to star in a wider range of content. I think her BBC video stands out for me, you don't see it all that much and it's a good sign of the variety an actress is willing to do. I'm not crazy impressed with Nao but for someone I was on the fence about watching more of, I'm definitely on the side that's interested now.

Riho Agatsuma

Riho Agatsuma was one of the more interesting cases from the year. She debuted as a Madonna exclusive and was extremely popular across the board. Madonna actresses usually look a lot older than Riho and she stood out among the crowd. I know a lot of people who normally wouldn't pay this kind of actress any mind who were all over her. It came as a big disappointment to fans that she left the industry after just four videos, I know myself I was bummed about it since she was the first debut I watched in 2019. However, the gods were good to us because she redebuted earlier this year for Faleno's new studio Dahlia. I certainly can't say she's a good performer but hey, with a face and body like that I'll take whatever I can get.

Favourite Debuts

From 2019 there were three big actresses for me that basically tied at the time as my favourites. Those three were Kaho Imai, Ruka Inaba, and Yuria Yoshine. I gave all of them S ranks, and I'm quite happy to say that all of them are still actresses I've been enjoying. Let's take a bit closer of a look at them.

Kaho Imai

Kaho Imai has really established herself as the premier gal actress in the industry. She totally blew past AIKA in last year's sales and I'm not surprised. I think part of it is certainly that AIKA fans wanted a bit of a change, but honestly Kaho is really great (and that's coming from someone who generally doesn't like such actresses). While she doesn't necessarily have the best genre variety she does tend to have a lot of interesting videos. I think a good part of that is is how successful her career has been so she has opportunities to work with whatever studio she wants to. I do feel like she tends to star a lot in either schoolgirl or gal focused videos but I do quite like that she has this nice niche that makes her memorable. If you're someone who is a bit tired of the same old gals then Kaho is absolutely who you should be watching.

Ruka Inaba

I must admit that when I first watched Ruka I didn't notice just how curvy she was. Even though I immediately knew that she was one of the best debuts I eventually realized just how incredible her ass is. Seriously, I even put it in my top 10 ass list, it's just that nice. Ruka's been someone I've enjoyed from the start but she hasn't always had the best opportunities. Definitely her body has been the selling point for me earlier on, but I am quite hopeful that her career will continue in a positive trend. She has been getting great opportunities lately and has been starring a lot with other great actresses. I'm especially liking the idea of her pairing up with Hana Himesaki, that's just a pair you have to love. If you haven't taken a look at Ruka yet that ass alone is worth a watch.

Yuria Yoshine

Yuria is someone who surprised me a lot over the past year or so. Someone with big tits like that could simply coast on how rare that kind of size is, but Yuria has been quite adventurous. Late 2020 saw her do lesbian and not long after she was doing anal. The fact that she's still doing both of those today is a pretty good sign if you wanted to see variety out of her. I honestly wouldn't even blame someone for calling her a more adventurous Hitomi because she certainly fits that bill. Yuria also does seem to be slightly edging Kaho and Ruka in my personal rankings, which I think is more so a factor of the variety she has (which makes some of her videos more appealing) than actually being better than the other two.

Among these three it's hard to pick a favourite, they're just all quite wonderful. I've seen well over a dozen videos of each of them and I would be surprised if I'm not watching even more videos in the future. They're just all so fantastic and it feels like 2019 was a fantastic year for debuts. To have three debuts that are very popular, getting good opportunities, and impressed me right from the start, now that's something. You can tell just how well they're all doing when each of them have worked together at times. I think the big thing for me is that each of them stand out quite a bit and don't compete with each other: you've got Yuria's if you want huge tits, Ruka's if you want a juicy ass, and Kaho if you're interested in a gal.

Conclusion

I'm glad we could take a few minutes to look back at what 2019 gave us. I always like reflecting on things like this as it really helps me plan for the future. Hopefully you've learned about a debut or two here and hopefully I've learned a thing or two about what debut actresses I should be watching.

Anyway, my next post will be the 2020 debuts review, something I'm even more excited for. With the sales posts I started doing last year I've spent a lot more time paying attention to debuts, and hopefully that translated into some great choices and fewer actresses I watched retiring.

As always, I encourage readers to post in the comments and share opinions. Have you seen any of the debuts I commented about and have opinions to share? Are there others not listed you want to talk about? Definitely do so in the comments. Until next time!

Got two of Ichika's stuff just to see what the hype is about and honestly, her acting etc. are great. If she was a bit more my type she'd definitely become one of my most favorites.
