Oppaira's Top 10 JAV Directors Part 1

Hey guys, Oppaira here. I know I've been chatting a ton lately about director things especially as I've tipped my hand at coming up with plots. Today I thought I'd start sharing who my favourite directors are and give you a brief overview about them and my favourite releases from them. So without further ado I hope you enjoy.

When I think of Trendy as a director I always come back to looking at the sheer variety of his films. One day he’s filming an NTR, another he’s filming someone being super slutty, and the next he’s doing a debut film. The sheer versatility he has massively contributes to how much of his videos I watch.

I think one of the main reasons I like Trendy as much as I do is because he works so much with actresses that suit me. He worked last year with three of the omega busty from S1 and I think that just goes to show my expectation of him. It turns out big tits are trendy so… (sorry for the bad pun). This alone isn’t enough to make me go crazy about him and honestly 10th place on my list was a toss up between quite a few directors.

When trying to find Trendy’s signature style I honestly got stumped. Someone in the comments will probably tell me what it is and I’ll wonder why I never noticed, but Trendy doesn’t seem to have one. I think that’s both a blessing and a curse for him. On the one hand I like the fact that I can expect him to do different things but at the same time I feel like you get better at the things you do more often and he just doesn’t practice the stuff I’ve truly loved from him the most.

These days you can often see Trendy working with JULIA, my favourite actress among active actresses. He has many of her best films because of how much he films. To put it into perspective, of the two dozen videos she released last year, Trendy was the director in half of them, far eclipsing any other director. Yes, that does mean Trendy has quite a few duds in his collection, which is partially why he’s the last place director, but if the duds are with Julia then I’ll take it. Especially with him continuing to film a ton with JULIA (he is the director of half her films this year) I’m always watching his videos.

Mishima as a director is someone I know to be capable of a surprising amount of variety but is well known for going over the top in his films. It’s quite common to see things were you go “oh damn they really did that”. One time it’s a guy waking up as an AV actress, another time the actress has sex with him to quell his masturbation addiction. 

It’s these fun and wacky narratives that are the most exciting for me especially with all the visual effects. Mishima is just really good at the visual aids, making you enjoy the complete package of the video. For many that might not matter that much but when you’re someone like myself who watches a ton of JAV you start to appreciate all the little details. I can’t tell you how great those blowup dolls are in the DAS series.

Mishima is perhaps best known as the director for this excessive cum content from Rookie. There are others who have directed the series but I think Mishima has done it more than anyone else. He’s got two of the best I’ve seen and I honestly enjoy this content far more than most people. It’s interesting, it’s wild, and it’s always a good time with the actresses.

These days Mishima does a lot of more generic elder sister or cheating wife type content. DAS and Madonna are by far the two studios he works with the most. That does tend to have him working with certain actresses quite frequently, often Kana Morisawa and Mary Tachibana, which luckily for him are two of the most popular actresses and make his more tame videos quite popular.

Usapyon is a director who films just about anything that comes his way. I find that he tends to be one of those workhorse type directors who films bulk rather than quality. To that effort he has eight films in April alone. 

The simple truth is that because he films so much it’s easy to have good quality videos, especially when he films with major studios like Idea Pocket, Moodyz, S1, etc. You just simply have all the top actresses in them that you’re already watching and even though he’s often not the only one directing a particular series you do inevitably see some quality content. You get me Momo Sakura in a schoolgirl outfit or Ruka Inaba girlfriend's younger sister and eventually something is bound to be good.

The series Usapyon is best known for would have to be Beauty Venus. He has directed the last four of them and I think all of us appreciate just how incredible those videos can be. The opportunity of getting three actresses who don’t normally work with others let alone do lesbian is always a treat. I wouldn’t necessarily call it his signature series since others have directed them before (BV4 was directed by Tadanori Usami) but considering he seems to be the go to director there he just sort of lucked out in being selected since he directs so much.

In recent times Usapyon has been focused pretty heavily on new actresses and the vast majority of his films have been debuts or in an actress’ first few videos. That’s not to say he doesn’t work with veterans but it’s only like 10 or 20% of his output these days. Just to put it into perspective he has three debut films announced for next month alone.

Kyousei is a director I know well for having a pretty healthy mix of content. If you were to look through his filmography I wouldn’t be surprised if you had trouble trying to figure out what his specialty is. Sometimes he works with debuts and other times with veterans. Sometimes the actresses are flat and sometimes omega busty. Sometimes the videos have plain soapland themes and other times it’s some three actress squirting fest.

What I’ve always enjoyed about Kyousei is his ability to tease you in videos. He can really set the stage for a video in a way that you’re extremely excited to see where the scene is going to go. You get that glimmer of some cleavage or something out in public and just know it’s going to be a banger. Considering that I often skim the plot portions his ability to use such strong visual elements to aid in them has always made me watch much more.

Kyousei isn’t someone I know for a particular series but instead for a style of revealing clothing. He’s quite often doing things where the actress isn’t wearing a bra and is tempting someone with that, or is subtly tempting with some cleavage. He’s typically subtle about it and using it as the driving force for the plot, but he also sometimes takes it all the way where she’s out in the wild butt naked.

These days it’s very common to see Kyousei working with new actresses. He’s quite frequently working with them in their first few videos whether it’s their debut or their second or third release. In fact this year alone he has worked with all four of my most anticipated debuts already which just goes to show how much faith they have in him as a director. Especially considering they’re all busty women I feel like Kyousei is a great choice to help capture their boobs in that enticing way.

ZAMPA is a director who has been around for a dozen years now. I’ve found that ZAMPA spent a lot of time experimenting to find out what works for him. He always did all sorts of things, from NTR to films to succubus and everything in between. He’s also had opportunities to do a lot of them in both standard and VR so you get an additional layer of variety that other directors simply don’t have.

ZAMPA is a director who I find does really well at lightly assertive content. Give him a video where the actress gets to be a little dominant whether it’s plot-driven, theme driven, or as basic as it gets, and he’ll find a way to make it work. Even when the video’s theme or narrative doesn’t explicitly need something super dominant he’ll make sure the actress isn’t submissive and avoids the whole Japanese pornstar stereotype. It goes without saying that obviously the more dominant the actress gets to be and the more space he creates for them the better, but I just generally find that actresses aren't particularly submissive in his videos.

If I had to pick something I know ZAMPA for it would actually be VR. I’ve seen twice as many VR films from him compared to anyone else and a lot of them are quality things making my top 25 list. Taking that assertive energy and finding ways to make it work in VR is a tall order that he consistently seems to meet.

These days I feel like ZAMPA directs a ton of VR, perhaps even too much. In April he had five VR and one non-VR and in March it was eight VR to four non-VR. As much as I do like VR and do watch it I tend to watch way more non-VR and just don’t watch ZAMPA as much as I otherwise would. Don’t get me wrong I like the guy’s directing but the bar for me watching VR is quite high and he doesn’t always r each that bar.
