Films can often live or die by their covers. It's the main selling point to get eyes on the film and persuade potential buyers. Especially if you're walking through a DVD store or browsing DMM or R18 having to sift through hundreds of videos. Studios need to create eye-catching covers to capture the attention of their customers. A bland and forgettable cover can certainly land your film at the bottom of the sales charts. It needs to be attractive, memorable, and pleasing to the eyes. Also gotta strike a good balance between featuring text conveying the central theme or title as well as having some nice eye candy. Now with that out of the way let's kick this post off. I'll be going in order leading all the way to my number one favorite cover.

10. MIAD-580

"Maximum Exposure: Fishing For Men"

What a smoking hot outfit right? This is one of the earliest JAV covers I remember seeing that I fell in love with. Haruki Sato just looks so alluring here which is a perfect fit for this type of setup. The whole goal of the video is for Haruki to go out and bring in random strangers. And with that outfit who could possibly resist? She looks so incredibly sexy on this cover with her midriff top, tight jeans shorts, and those fishnet stockings. It's a wonderful combination. Not only that but I greatly appreciate that the text on the cover doesn't cover up Haruki and stays off to the side. The background is also a nice touch. It's just a really well-made cover no matter how you slice it.

Does the video live up to the cover? It definitely does. MIAD-580 delivers on its promised setup and has Haruki going out and picking up all sorts of fishermen to have sex with or simply jerk off. Sometimes the action is admittedly a bit lackluster with a lot of handjobs but it's bolstered by some terrific cumshots and satisfying sex scenes full of squirting. Even better is that some scenes take place outdoors which is nice. Her performance overall is decent but honestly nothing too memorable. And lastly, the production values are all solid especially the wardrobe variety. Every outfit is a stunner for sure and showcases her gorgeous body.

9. PRED-156

"Bookish And Big Titted Girl Whispers Dirty Talk Into Your Ear While She Rides Your Cock"

I'm a massive fan of this type of plot. And the cover itself does a magnificent job at selling it. The general premise is about Nanami playing a bookish and nerdy girl who is a dirty nympho underneath filled with lust. It makes for a really fantastic theme. The cover itself is just as wonderful. It's relatively simple but super effective. For starters, I love Nanami's wardrobe here. The stockings and midriff shirt make for a really sexy combo. Plus the added glasses really tie everything together and help to sell her "nerdy" appearance. The position she's in is amazing too. Riding cowgirl while pressing his face into her cleavage wonderfully illustrates her dominant role here. But maybe my favorite aspect is her curves being shown off. She looks so incredibly curvy on this cover and it easily grabs your attention. Better yet none of the text is too obtrusive either. A very fine cover all around.

Does the video live up to the cover? Without a doubt. One major reason is the top-notch execution of its plot. It makes great use of its theme with varied and interesting scenarios for each scene. Such as her seducing a deliveryman and a neighbor. That variety also extends to the action which is full of fantastic full sex scenes along with a brilliant thigh fucking scene. Hell, there's even a scene of her vigorously riding a stuffed animal to really drive home her inner lust. All the technical aspects are well handled too with impeccable camerawork and excellent lighting. The pacing is balanced pretty even too and her wardrobe is simple but very sexy. All in all, PRED-156 is a masterfully crafted execution of a fantastic premise and cover. It delivers on all fronts making for a very enjoyable experience. 

8. SSNI-409

"Female Undercover Investigator"

I'm always a massive fan of this genre of covers, the whole secret agent trope. I really could have picked any to go here in this spot but I decided to go with the lovely Yua Mikami. I have a sorta love/hate relationship with this genre. I adore the covers and the catsuit but loathe the submissive tone of the actual film. I'll get into that later on but right now let's discuss this marvelous cover. The catsuit alone sells me on it. It's showcased very well with the zipper halfway down revealing her cleavage(a bit shopped but not too egregious) and the cutout around her thighs and crotch. The black and red color scheme goes together nicely plus the text isn't too obtrusive.

Does the video live up to the cover? The answer is not really sadly. I know some of you out there enjoy the darker nature of the plot but I am not one of those. That's my main reason for disliking this video and series. The submissive tone and moody lighting aren't my cup of tea at all. The action itself is actually not too bad overall at least. Now I do kinda enjoy Oppai's take on this genre with them featuring the actress actually being assertive and in the power position at first but then losing control instead of here where she immediately gets captured and fucked against her will. In the end, the result is a disappointing film that does little to live up to its stunning cover.

7. MIAD-664

"What An Ass!!"

What could be better than one Ai Uehara? How about five of them? When it comes to JAV covers I find that Moodyz is one of the most consistent around. Yes, they occasionally overdo it with the photoshopping but it doesn't happen all that often. Not nearly as much as some other big-name offenders but I'll save those for another post. Anyway, I really dig this cover. The biggest and most obvious reason is the five Ai's. With each one sporting a different outfit, it makes it much more visually appealing. I also appreciate the background is a solid color and isn't too cluttered with trivial junk. It lets you focus on what's important. And I think the light pastel pink color choice is perfect and fits well. I say it's easily one of Ai Uehara's best covers.

Does the video live up to the cover? I would say absolutely. The film indeed features 5 scenes with 5 different scenarios all incorporating the array of outfits you see on the cover. Each scene is diverse and unique which certainly helps to keep the film from getting stale. Just as the cover implies there is plenty of ass focus here. I will say not every scene is a winner as one is just a masturbation/toying scene which is a real letdown as it wastes a perfectly good outfit. But thankfully the rest of the scenes make up for it. In addition, Ai delivers a solid performance as always and the production values are all on point except for some bloated pacing. All in all, a very good film that definitely makes great use of its cover and theme.

6. SSNI-700

"See Through With No Bra, J Cups Fall Out, Temptation Of Clothed Hot Tits"

Rara Anzai/Rion has several covers featuring herself in a tight shirt with her tits poking through like this. I chose this one since it's the latest and who doesn't love a good wet t-shirt combo with big titties? Rara possesses some truly incredible assets that are perfectly suited for cover eye candy. Just put her front and center with her boobs as the highlight and watch it fly off the shelf. For Rara it doesn't get much better than this. Her face looks great on here and I dig her wet hair. All the shots on the back cover are very appealing too. But obviously, the clear standout factor is the wet t-shirt. Seeing her giant tits concealed in that tight shirt is spectacular. It's such a great tease overall. And of course, it's photoshopped a bit but it's not too ridiculous at least.

Does the video live up to the cover? Ehh...somewhat. Does the film deliver on its promise of clothed sex and big tits? Absolutely. Every single scene features her tits concealed with some nice clothed tittyfucking and full-on sex. But the satisfaction of the action leaves a lot to be desired. One scene just consists of a bland handjob and the two paizuri scenes are quite underwhelming. The sex scenes are solid but there are just two over the course of a two-and-a-half-hour runtime. Even then they're a tad underwhelming due to her middling performance. She lacks proper enthusiasm and is just super dull overall. Just not very compelling to watch in any way. Now I do appreciate that each scene incorporates its own unique setup that helps it stand out from one another. In the end, it's a decent film that with a better performance and better action could have been something truly special. Instead, it's just fine.

5. AVOP-169

"Semen Terminator"

This is one of those covers that if you walk by or see online you can't just simply pass up. It'll have you going "what the fuck", but in a good way. I remember when I first saw this cover I thought she was holding a machine gun or something lol. Now some covers I love due to the stunning eye-candy but then there are covers like this one that are outright ridiculous and absurd. I think one of my favorite aspects is just the "Semen Terminator" logo. It's one of the best titles to any JAV ever. Also humorous is the "She Loves It!" tagline in the upper right. And I really love that device she's holding as it's so over the top but it does a great job at grabbing your attention. Not a huge fan of the big yellow text box at the bottom but that's my only issue.

Does the video live up to the cover? 100% yes. She really becomes the "Semen Terminator" in this film. It doesn't waste any time in getting to the action as within the first 10 minutes she's already using the device to milk a guy. Throughout the entire film, she uses a variety of devices and techniques to squeeze out countless loads. It is very much a heavy femdom-inspired film and no one is more perfect for this role than Kaho Kasumi. She knocks it out of the park with alluring facial expressions and exceptional dominant enthusiasm. While it may not boast the many sex scenes it makes up for it with its creativity and intensity. AVOP-169 is JAV at its best. Taking a creative and absurd premise and executing it with near perfection.

4. NITR-361

"Sexy Tongue Plump Giant Balloon Titties"

Sometimes you just can't beat simplicity. Just put Sakura Kirishima on the cover sticking her tongue out and call it a day. I really think this is a quality cover that easily catches your eye. Admittedly nothing on the back cover is too special although that shot of her in the middle wearing the leopard print outfit is pretty nice. But the real meat here is the meaty actress on the front cover. Sakura Kirishima's curves here look stunning. Sure they may be photoshopped to some extent but to be fair she is quite meaty and thick in actuality. Her "outfit" is nice too with the fishnet stockings and the "slingkini". Of course, you can't help but notice her sexy long tongue as well which again is pretty realistic if you've seen her in action. Lastly, I think the solid red background helps Sakura really stand out. Red is naturally a visually attention-grabbing color so it's a very wise decision. The wig is a bit goofy but other than that I love this cover.

Does the video live up to the cover? Somewhat although it's very hit-or-miss. Now she does indeed wear that cover outfit in the film and it happens to be a sex scene so there's no cover bait here. And it just so happens to be the best scene out of the entire video. The rest of the film pales in comparison sadly. The scene featuring the leopard print outfit is decent but is severely impacted by some poor pacing that drags the scene out to an insane degree. The other scenes are just blowjob scenes that aren't bad but don't really stand out at all. The goofy wig she wears throughout kinda lessens my enjoyment too. On the plus side, Sakura delivers a solid performance overall and her body is just as lovely as always. If you're really into tongue play then this is right up your alley. Otherwise, you'll probably come away a bit disappointed.

3. PPPD-363

"Alluring Emotion"

Ai Sayama has some really nice covers and trying to decide between them was pretty hard. I ultimately went with this stunning piece of art. It's a video you don't see mentioned often which may or may not be for good reason(find out down below). The premise seems to revolve around an anthology of sorts with Ai Sayama playing a series of different characters involved in relationships centering around a variety of partners and emotions. Anyway, I find this cover to be truly stunning for many reasons. One is her pose. She looks terrific with her legs spread and cupping one of her breasts. I also appreciate the little bit of cum dripping off of them. The wedding dress is a very nice outfit and one rarely seen on covers but Ai rocks it here. Yes, the photoshopping is a little over the top but still looks pretty nice and goes in line with the hentai esque premise. And the white background gives it an almost angelic-like aesthetic. Just lovely. 

Does the video live up to the cover? Well...not entirely sadly. As I mentioned earlier the plot throws Ai into several different scenarios with all centered around different relationships and dynamics. They all seem to be a bit over the top too and reminiscent of a hentai plot, hence the artwork. Your mileage may vary but personally beyond the first scene with the wedding dress the rest of the scenes fall flat. Mostly due to the themes being kinda dull and the bloated pacing which greatly drags out the scenes. The action itself is fine but nothing truly unique or memorable really. The first scene is easily the star attraction with the rest feeling like an afterthought honestly. At least Ai Sayama delivers a solid performance for the most part but it's still not enough to make a significant impact. Watch this film for the first scene but that's it. You can safely skip the rest.

2. MIRD-145

"Superb BODY - Real Creampies - Large Orgies"

What could be better than a cover featuring a beautiful lady? How about four of them? This cover is pure eye-candy heaven. While it is photoshopped a bit I don't mind it as it's not too over the top like some others. It is an admittedly simple cover but sometimes simplicity is all you really need. With this cover, there's really not too much to analyze. You have 4 stunning actresses in a lineup showcasing their super sexy bodies. I appreciate the body oil application effect too making them appear all shiny. It's a really neat effect. Another nice aspect is the fact that the text is kept in the background. And the simple black color really makes the text and ladies stand out quite nicely. What more can I say? It's a super simple but extremely effective cover.

Does the video live up to the cover? I would say yes, for the most part at least. The cover implies that all four appear together in the film in some capacity which they do quite a bit actually. It's a super meaty film filled to the brim with group sex featuring the all-star cast together as a full unit and even breaking up into pairs. Even better is that they constantly interact with each other including some groping, fingering, and kissing. It makes the scenes much more engaging and fun to watch. The performance across the board are all really great as well. Very lively and full of enthusiasm. I do have a few issues though. Some of the big group scenes can be a little messy and hard to track. Also, one scene is just a lame masturbation scene. Other than that though this film absolutely delivers the goods and will satisfy any desire for a quality harem-type film.

1. MDYD-931

"The Ravaged Female Money-Lender With Colossal Tits"

This may sound crazy to some but this might just be my favorite JAV cover ever. It's actually quite conservative compared to most of her other covers that have her boobs exposed and right in your face. But this cover takes a really nice artistic approach that does a fantastic job at conveying the plot, theme, and Hitomi's role in the film. Her position is that of a rather unreasonable loan shark who then gets betrayed and fucked against her will. Her outfit accurately illustrates her position of power with the fur coat plus the wad of money in her cleavage which is just a genius move. The text is also unobtrusive and doesn't get in the way. And I love the contrast in comparison to the left side with her bent over and getting railed from behind. Going from a position of power to being on the bottom in a humiliating fashion. Just perfectly executed.

Does the video live up to the cover? Without a doubt. The film makes great use of its premise and showing the breakdown of Hitomi's will all throughout. She starts out rather resistant but slowly over time succumbs to her lust(partly due to a love potion given to her and by the end is fully enjoying herself. A major reason this film is such a success is largely attributed to her standout performance. She delivers a top-notch submissive performance with spot-on facial expressions complete with some of the best scowl looks you'll ever see. And the transition to lust in the final scene is fantastic. The action is very good too with excellent position variety that is well suited for the overall plot. Now I will say the setting variety is pretty weak as they reuse the same location for every scene pretty much but other than that it's a brilliantly executed film with one of the best overall covers.
