Red JAV Redemption — Far West In The Far East

Hello everyone, hope y’all are doing well. Question: what is better – a dish of spaghetti with tomato sauce, or a beautiful Japanese porn actress lying on your bed naked? Jokes on you, that’s a trick question. Of course you’d go for the plate of pasta, right? I mean, who wouldn’t. However, today we are talking about something pasta-related, or even better – spaghetti-related. We are talking about spaghetti westerns, westerns in general and how they relate to the JAV universe. Warning! Spoiler alert! They don’t. They fucking don’t. I wish they did, though. I’ve searched far and beyond the boundaries of the known world, I’ve browsed every single porn website I know of and there’s literally nothing about JAVs set in a western-like world. I mean, sure, there are cowgirls JAV out there, but that’s not exactly what we are talking about.

I’ve managed to find a good amount of western porn movies, but none from Japan, or even involving actual Japanese porn actresses. I even asked to a friend of mine who is a total western (and JAV!) aficionado, and yet… absolutely nothing. I was so much disappointed. Not finding any JAV with this kind of criteria means that either I am a terrible Google Searcher PhD. or that I am living in the wrong timeline. I still won’t believe that the are actually no western JAVs out there. I mean, Japan is obsessed with many things and the JAV industry is tainted day-by-day with crazy stuff such as magical girls, cyberpunk aesthetics and so on – things that clearly originate from the popular culture, from Internet and so on, as we already discussed. Westerns, on the other hand, owe their own fame to traditional mass medias, and they are definitely not at their peak of popularity right now. Everybody wants shiny neon lights, minimalist environments and cyberware implants installed all over their body. So, it’s somewhat understandable that horses, gang plots, Native Americans and ranches aren’t really a thing in the porn industry.

I mean, what the hell? There is some of the craziest shit I've seen in my entire life on a totally generic JAV categories list. Ninja JAVs, Witches JAVs, Pirates JAVs, Princesses JAVs. And yet, no fucking Spaghetti Western JAV. Why? Why are you treating me like this? What did I even do this deserve this? However, some of these particular JAVs are really good. This movie, for instance, named "Kunoichi Kirikaze", produced by studio GIGA and starring Akari Nishiyama, is one of the good ones. I am always done for a cool setting, you know – even if it's not a western one.

If the porn industry, be it the Japanese one or the Western one, are to adopt some trait or feature from popular culture to their products, then it must be successful and popular. Western settings do not meet these criteria, probably. This piece wants to be, as we folks say in Italy, “a letter of hope and love”. I want JAVs with western settings to be a thing. I want the most popular JAV actresses to enter a saloon and start fucking every single guy while drinking a sip of whiskey. I want the hot, sultry desert to be so heated up that the girls have to strip naked – hell, that would be such a cool plot. I can totally see it. I would one hundred percent watch a JAV about cowboys, stories about lawmen and bounty hunters that interrupt their daily fighting to have a little fun with the ladies, and such.

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

I know what you are thinking. “But vienna, Japan literally doesn’t care about Spaghetti Westerns”. Gringo, you may be right, but God if I wish it weren’t this way. The Japanese are usually very strict about explicating what they like or don’t like. They’re a timid and reserved people, this I can comprehend – and precisely because they are so shy, they are hiding their love for westerns. The Japanese have come a long way with settings in anime, movies, TV shows and porn, as well. I am absolutely sure they would be down for trying new crazy things, such as a western setting with spaghetti western-like elements, any time. They just need a little push, if you know what I mean. Either way, I am not dying until I watch a 4 hours long JAV with a western setting. Write it down on my wills.

Ah yes, magical girls. I love them so, so much. Little witches, cute arcane princesses, you name them. They are my buzz, as you very well know by now. But wouldn't they be better with a cowboy hat on the heads of the girls? By the movie, I already talked about this movie in one of my recent pieces on this blog. To penetrate (no pun intended) the fragile sensibility of the community is difficult, but who could succeed in such a task if not the pornographic industry, and in particular the Japanese one that more than any other has dared to innovate and put into play its limits, again and again? It was the JAV industry, over time, that gave the greatest impetus to the curiosity of all participants in the industry, from fans to actresses, the same industry that inspired, in so many areas, Western porn - a terrain contaminated, today, by Japan's porn industry as never before. Of course, the opposite is also the case: Japanese porn has taken a lot of its key elements (and still does) from Western porn, but the gist, what makes JAVs so special, what sets them apart from all other porn products, remains, and is more original than ever. The word "original" I think is what best defines JAVs. I have seen things in JAVs that I could not find in any other media. And if you're on blogs, you know what I'm talking about.

Having concluded this brief digression on the state of the pornographic art, let's get back to the real crux of the matter: horses and cowboys. Why I am pushing so hard for a spaghetti western to be produced is not that hard to understand. As all the readers of my articles know, I'm a great fan of particular settings and imaginative scenarios, but also of re-enactments of dynamics already tested and well defined, whose use - accompanied, of course, by a valid execution - always determines the development and publication of a good product. And this, gentlemen, also applies to porn. Many will debate saying that what I wrote is not always true, and that indeed the excessive use and consequent abuse of a certain setting can lead a fan to "disgust" that type of JAV, and actually I agree with this reasoning. But from a purely industrial point of view, and therefore a genuinely economic point of view for the production studio, going back to a formula, to a type of pornography, to a precise category with the sole objective of making those nice big bucks, is totally understandable.

I understand it, and everyone should. Production studios are businesses. Companies with employees, who at the end of the month must receive their paycheck, if you know what I mean. And that's why we get dozens of "oh naw my mum is stuck in the washing machine and I can't help but fuck her from behind" movies on a daily basis, even though this specific type is more usual in western porn. In any case, I'm sure the message got through.

A Railroad To Tokyo

Typically, the person who needs to redeem is someone who has committed a sin, something wrong, perhaps a crime - redemption would be to a judge, the community, or someone to whom one has committed a wrongdoing. Yet, this precious word has more than one interpretation and numerous use cases, and I thought it would be good to associate it (also taking a cue from a famous video game title) with the issue we are discussing.Tokyo is a very distant city, Japan is a distant place and probably seen only from postcards by the vast majority of people who watch JAV in the West, yet we can feel it, through the media, so close, almost as if we could touch it. How do JAV producers perceive the criticism and opinions of JAV fans from the West? How much are articles from journalists and bloggers considered? Precisely, how does a JAV come into being? What's the thought process behind a movie? Maybe we could investigate the answer to that last question in more depth in a future article, who knows - but what I'm trying to say is that the process of contamination and influence on JAVs is really interesting, and that precisely because the Japanese porn industry is so prone to change, in the sense of adapting to mass culture, then it seems natural to expect one, or maybe two spaghetti western-themed porn films in the future, should the genre ever make a comeback like it once did.

I found out recently that kimono are a huge, huuuuge, turn on or me. Traditional clothing make sex feel so.. intimate and prohibit. Very erotic, if you ask me. This is also the most recent movie I watched, named "The Super Cute Princess Who Was Confined In Her Home" (great name by the way!), produced by studio Dogma and starring the magnificent Nagomi, along with an old spaghetti western, which actually made me think "there are a lot of JAVs with interesting outfits and stuff, but... are there any JAV in western settings?". This is how my call for redemption started.

At the end of the day, this article was just a simple provocation. A provocation to the production studios, to the casts, to the people who direct and those who suggest how to set a JAV, to all the personnel involved in filming: dare. Always dare more. JAVs can become a complete all-round media, a coherent and innovative product that is constantly able to reinvent itself to keep up with the times, which it has already succeeded admirably in doing, but that's not enough: this claim to see a JAV with a spaghetti western setting is just children's stuff, basically a joke, but the basis on which this opinion piece is based is absolutely valid, and it will always be as such. I want to see more JAVs that dare to do something new and crazy, just for the sake of it. Just for the love of porn. And that, my dear friends, concludes my soliloquy, not to mention my madhouse monologue.
