Sora Shiina doxes herself! Her previous life as Natsuki Asano exposed.

Sora Shiina, known for her flamboyance devil-may-care attitude and have no issues engaging both male, female or trannsexual co-stars on films despite being a self-proclaimed lesbian in public did something remarkable and unbelievable more than a year back prior to the writing of this article.

She started her own fashion line and in a bid to get people to judge her without any influence from her day job, decided to reveal her real name and birthday on her public social media accounts, effectively doxxing herself:- 

Her true name is Natsuki Asano.(浅野奈都紀)  Born July 7th, 1994. Which make hers about a year older than what the official profile of her public persona states. This act of her offers a rare chance for people to have a glimpse of how a girl was before she takes on this very public occupation through a fair and justifiable channel. And what a contrast in personality was Natsuki Asano compared to her future self as Sora Shiina.

 A simple search on Google revealed that Natsuki is a very individualistic person, with very few people seemingly choosing to arrange their name using the combination of kanji as herSaying so, one search result links to a blog that Natsuki had kept for half a year as an 18-year-old through the halcyon days of her final Summer at High school all till the middle of winter after her graduation. To be fair, this period is a significant milestone in life for anyone, especially a young teenage girl and I suspect that was the point as to why Natsuki started jotting things down and perhaps also the reason how it had escaped being purged by Sora. It holds sentimental value to both of them.

Now, I will not be attempting any interpretations of all of Natuski's entries as that will require much effort considering that what she wrote are mostly girlish cryptic ramblings that only make sense to those belonging to her inner circle, typical of any girl of at age. Instead, I will try to paint a caricature of how Natsuki Asano was before her metamorphosis into Sora Shiina from my perspective based on my understanding after going through most of the entries.

I'll start by a brief mention of how Natsuki was as a student in Hiryu Private High, Numazu, Shizouka. She was a slacker and make no effort to hide the fact that she is not academically inclined, going so far as to goofing off during tests, leaving blank entries on the papers and scoring zeros, which she deems as a badge of honour. However, that does not mean she does not see a future in herself. Many times throughout the blog, she keeps repeating about going to a vocational institute to learn about arts and designs after graduation, something that Natsuki had dreamed about since Junior High. And this draws ire from her mother who preferred her to apprentice for something more practical.

And that's lead me to Natsuki's relationship with her family. She doesn't talk much about her parents except in passing remarks. Which is understandable since she is 18 and perhaps already in the stage of an adolescent rebellion trying to make something for herself. Like many of others of her age. And so she prefers the company of her friends and classmates. She does have something that resembles a functional family though as she had managed to integrate herself into an existing one. Quite possibly that of one of her senior. (She never did clarify her exact relationship in the blog)  Interestingly, the baby of her surrogate family is named "Sora". Of which she was very fond of, could Natsuki have adopted that name later on in remembrance of their time together? Who knows?

So, young Natsuki was not interested in schooling and prefer the company of friends over family, just what exactly motivates her? Like a few other peers of her age, she was starstruck by the popular celebrities of her time. And back in the mid-2010s, nothing was bigger than AKB48. To fund her star chasing hobby, Natsuki did hold a part-time job on the side and she essentially spent a fortune traveling to Tokyo and back at about 9600 yen (USD$90) per round trip to attend their handshaking event every other weekend by bullet train. So much so that the personal favourite member of Natsuki, Ayaka Kikuchi made an acquaintance of her. It's perhaps not too much to say that Kikuchi could have given some advice to Natsuki regarding footwork in time for her AKB48 impressions during her final high school cultural festival.

And what's a normal teenage girl's life without a romantic relationship of sorts? And here's the biggest twist of all, Natsuki wasn't a seductress for some girls at that stage in her life, unlike her alter ego years later. She was head-over-heels with a bratty looking lad. And could have been with him for some time before the start of the blog as she mentioned about reconciling with him sometime later. So it does seem that they had a minor falling out of sorts, as with people of their age. In any case, those two love birds remain together throughout the rest of the story, spending Summer, Fall, Christmas and New Year never far from each other. They do have the occasional disagreement but never drifted apart. There's even talk by Natsuki about planning for a wedding ceremony in Okinawa and resettling in Thailand after her graduation. Those two ends up moving to Tokyo after graduation, where they co-inhibits, he found employment and Natsuki continues her schooling at a vocational Institute. She still finds time to plays the role of a faithful wife though, preparing his meals and blogging about their life in his embrace at night.

Things finally come to a halt at the break of early spring of April 2013 where Natsuki ends the blog with a cryptic message about "Back to starting at Square 1". There are no hints as to what that entry means. In any case, from what I could find later, Natsuki spent the next two years or so before her formal debut in public as Sora Shiina twitcasting to her Twitter followers, at one point, the title of her feed is "With my former beau". Looking back at the six months worth of postings, Natsuki does look happy at about how her life is going. She seems content just about meeting her idols and being adored by her special one without any expression of regrets. And perhaps that's all she could wish for before leaving the girl, Natsuki Asano behind to enter the adult world as Sora Shiina.
