With the declining profit margin, production budget of JAV has also been affected in recent years.  So one of my favorite (and very very niche) genre: SciFi JAV has become quite barren.  So in this and next article I will highlight eight of my all time Baddest Fucking SciFi covering the entire timeline of modern (not counting the VHS and early DVD era) JAV history. Today we first look at the more unified genre: tokusatsu 特撮 JAV. 

First I want take a little time to make a distinction, what I’m calling SciFi JAV is limited to the more trashy commercial entertainment definition of SciFi, so it must involve at least a few of these elements: special effects (either practical or CG), costumes, transformation, props, futuristic sets, and action sequences.  There is another similar genre which I would call alt-reality, which involve an imaginary society in which certain rules of gender, sex, family, moral, or laws are changed.  These are filmed with no visible difference to modern Japanese society so there’s no costumes etc.  They could be classified as SciFi in the more brainy sense.  However, for JAV genres I will limit JAV SciFi to be the more brawny not the brainy kind.  

Before I get on with my list, I must name-drop the 1995 classic pink film La Blue Girl: Revenge of the Shikima Realm starring the lovely Saya Hidaka 冰高小夜, (original title: Obscene Beasts Campus Sexual Monster Realm’s Counter Attack 淫獣学園 色魔界の逆襲). It’s one of the earliest live action realization of a hentai manga.  Not only was it an impact of sex, nudity and gore in the Japanese scene.  It was also exported to the US and played a role in the early history of adult-favored anime/manga invasion in the US market, specifically La Blue Girl, along with Urotsukidōji Legend of the Overfiend, was responsible for bringing tentacle porn to the American psyche. 

GIGP-06 Zenra Mask Great Infiltration

From that early innovation, gradually was evolved a very specific and stable (I'd say stale, by now) sub-genre of SciFi JAV, which is the studio GIGA.  In fact, in terms of number of titles (but not in unit sold) GIGA is absolutely dominant in SciFi JAV. It’s a very specialized studio, with unit price up to 10,000 yen, they have a very tiny but devoted fan base to keep on doing what they do.  It’s rumored that a major portion of their cost is legal fees as they are often hit by lawsuits and complaints by IP holders.  GIGA makes recurring titles in the following series: bishoujo senshi 美少女戦士, Ultraman, Sentai, Kamen Rider, and Kekko Mask けっこう仮面.
 
In all JAV, it’s hard to find another genre so dominated by a single studio and another studio so 100% devoted to one genre.  I will straight up declare I have flipped from being a fan of this once-innovative studio to a harsh critic.  It’s a rather sad state of affair that last few years every other studios have pretty much quit this genre and GIGA have stagnated to making the same, mostly objectionable, titles over and over again for their very tiny, very niche fanbase.   But, mostly I want to be positive in my articles on ZENRA so I will highlight the good ones instead of complain about GIGA. 

With a title ZENRA Mask ぜんら～仮面 coincidentally same as our website, we have to take a look right?  This 2018 title is only one in the big long-running series XXX Kekko which is a “homage” to Go Nagai’s 永井豪 IP Kekko Kamen けっこう仮面.  Riko Kitagawa 北川りこ and Mao Hamasaki 浜崎真緒 both star as Zenra Kekko. The story is very simple (or maybe it’s not? Who cares? It’s not relevant), as the main point of the title is having one or both busty idols engage in martial arts (both solo show-off and 2P/3P fighting), saying cool-sounding lines, being fondled, abused and fucked while at the same time being in costume and totally naked.  That’s possible thanks to the genius of Go Nagai designing the super heroine costume to consist of a full head-mask, long gloves, knee-high boots and nothing else.  

IMHO, the sex scenes are necessary but secondary.  The best parts of the title is the fighting sequence, featuring nunchuk-play and the signature final attack, which has Zenra Kekko leaps into the air, performs a gymnastic split, and crush multiple villains' face with her pussy.  While both ladies put in an excellent effort at nunchuk (while swinging around their big soft yummy boobs) Riko Kitagawa’s numchuk skill is more smooth and polished than Mao Hamasaki’s (see clip below). Also note the skillful switching of boots, stiletto high heels for the static posing shots but sensible half inch heels for the fighting sequence.  The title is a special stand-out amongst the many similar title in the series.  We have hot girl, excellent costume that is both cool (for sentai) and cheeky (for ecchi), multiple outdoor sets (instead of the same old dark industrial space), great actions, good nudity and sex actions and most importantly the sex is well integrated with the sentai plot.

IPX-335 Magical Girl Risa

Gangbanged for my sake, Magical Girl Risa ボクのせいで輪姦される魔法少女リサ from 2019 starring Risa Morisawa 森沢リサ is one of very few titles that major studios, in this case Idea Pockets, takes on similar theme as GIGA. Like a typical GIGA Magical Girl title, IPX-335 also features transformation sequence, sexy battle suit (decorated bikini), melee combat, light (CG?) effects for spells and multi-villains-on-heroine abuse. Risa Morisawa has an exotic face (is she haafu?), very fit, easy-on-the-eyes but otherwise average figure (for a contract idol) and silky smooth skin.  However, action sequence isn’t her speciality, especially on those high heels, she even struggled to walk. Never the less, for the non-stop sexual abuse that last for the remainder of the the 2-hour film, it’s very important to have a decent Magical Girl trope setup for the first 11 minutes.  Triumph, villains retreat, re-plot, counter-attack, Magic Girl gains the upper hand, Villain pulls a trick and subdue the heroine. The director and crew make up for Risa’s lack of combat skills with dynamic camera, active stuntmen and low-cost post-production effects.    
 
In most ways Magical Girl Risa is not better than GIGA’s typical productions, however, I enjoyed it much more than most GIGA titles because it fixed the most atrocious flaws. Magical Girl Risa, if you take away the magic spells and costumed villains, is actually just a common Secret Investigator theme JAV.  You start with the lead actress dressed in something cool, act kinda cool and then a bunch of dudes take over and fuck her. Pretty much a common porn with some cosplay and a light touch of S&M.  But GIGA... sigh... GIGA... they have gone to the dark side. The focus is not about making sexual pleasure any more, it has gone to hurting the heroine. Now I have to stop myself going into full burst ranting mode about how a minority of JAV fans have gone off the deap end and desire harming or hurting more then pleasure.  Anyway I know I am stepping on some people’s toes here. And others may not understand me, how I could enjoy the sex in this title but rant and rave against some other genres (including most of GIGA).  But if you watch these titles, I think you can also understand there’s a difference between getting sexual pleasure with not-fully-willing partner vs. wanting to cause pain to another person.  

EBOD-280 Splashy Bishoujou Sentai E-BODY

The awesome title Splashy Bishoujou Sentai E-BODY from 2012 featured Mizuki Akai 赤井美月 (better known as Honoka Orihara) and Saki Okuda 奥田咲 as a duo of a sentai (battle team) named, rather unimaginatively, after the studio.  Compared to the previous two titles, this one is a straight up porn with standard male-female sex with no S&M element and no sex toys.  There is very minimal fighting action (however the one minute of fighting during the opening sequence is much more professional than Magical Girl Risa). Instead the heroines’ heroic deeds are performed by fucking and sucking the (male) villains until their erotic energy is all spent. The performers (both male and female) did put up some desperate effort in the fucking so it’s rather convincing as a substitute for melee combat.  And this is the main reason EBOD-280 is one of my all time favorite, despite being in SD only.  
 
The title is neatly divided into 4 scenes with very efficient setup of each scene. So you get more than 105 minutes of hot sex out of a 120 minutes title. The first two scene are each girl’s turn of a 2P sex scene, don’t be too concerned that they keep on the top of their costumes during these scenes. Both Honoka’s and Saki’s magnificent tits will be put to use in the last two scenes. The third scene has the two heroines met for the first time and jointly fucked the solo villain to kingdom come. The finale scene is a full-on 4P scene with a nice transition from cosplay sex, half-nudity to full-nudity sex. In the end, the two villains are defeated by Honoka’s and Saki’s powerful vaginal ejaculation, or did they lose the pissing contest? This is easily one of the best hot sex title of all times, not just in the narrow niche of SciFi JAV. 

MILD-945 Million Dream 2014 Absolute Combat Body Miriga Z, Space Life-form Squid Grand Final Battle

It is a fine tradition to construct a word salad for any worthy Japanese SciFi show.  Let’s take it apart.  This is the 2014 edition of Million Dream.  The quad idols Rika Hoshimi 星美りか, Kizuna Sakura 佐倉絆, Mihono Sakaguchi 坂口みほの and Christine クリスティーン play the sentai Miriga (shortened from Million Girls) Z against the evil space alien squid Ikka. In this rather confusing (but who cares?) story, the evil villains are led by a space squid (made of a paper cutout hanging on a (sometimes visible) fishing line, who doesn’t do anything, and its henchmen: Cocomi Naruse who doesn't do anything and a very hunky stud who, being the only one endowed with a penis, does everything. The sentai performance of the four girls are delightfully and atrociously bad. Being summarily dispatched by the hunky stud armed with nothing more than a smelly dried squid. In scene 1, Blue (Christine) and Green (Mihono) were tied up, fondled and fucked by the hunk with finger, tongue and dildo. The girls succumbed to the stimulation and become active and happy participant in the intercourse.  In scene 2, the plot even dropped any pretension of the rivalry and so Red (Rika) and Yellow (Kizuna) just engaged the hunk in the second 3P scene.  After plenty of oral sex, they even use rock-paper-scissor to decide who have the first dip on vaginal sex.  

Then scene 3 is properly weird and ensured the title sticks in my memory. Having been defeated (orgasmed) the four girls seek training with a creepy ugly short old fat bald “sensei”.  The first part of the training is the weirdest.  The girls have to endure having their anuses (what's the plural of anus? anuses? anno?) filmed in close-up shots and licked by sensei. The girls then change into bikinis of their respective colors and received all kinds of tickling stimulation with feathers, a spinning wheel with hundreds of wet brushes and intense muff-diving by the sensei. Finally the girls are fucked by sensei using a large variety of powerful vibrators. Thankfully (for the idols) the creepy ugly short old fat bald sensei never undressed and the girls doesn't have to kiss or suck or fuck him. It’s a very sexual scene without being stimulating (at least I am much more amused than aroused by the silliness).  Which is in a way also fun.  

Scene 4 is the final showdown. The well trained foursome invade the hideout (a school of course) of the squid Ikka, both Ikka and Cocomi appeared and babbled a lot of incomprehensible lines (sometimes I am thankful I don’t understand Japanese) and promptly disappear. Leaving the hunk to face the Miraga Z foursome. They wasted no time with any pretended fighting and went straight to a standard 5P reverse gang-bang. A special mention for the stud, speaking as a totally straight cis-gender male, I love watching a hunky muscle man with a matching 8" monster cock pound on these sexy ladies. if anyone deserves to have sex with four girls, I'd rather watch a stallion than a wimpy shota boy. 

Final Emission

So that’s it for today. Four titles from four different studios (GIGA, Idea Pockets, Millions, E-Body) with a fairly similar formula, basically pornographic homage to typical Saturday morning cartoons, or more precisely speaking, tokusatsu 特撮 tropes.  But the four titles are not quite the same.  The first title were fighting- and S&M-oriented while the last two titles are more sex- and chessy-oriented.  In the concluding Part 2 (a little spoiler) I will review one more GIGA production and other SciFi titles from Moodyz and SOD, plus an honorable mention of a bland new title from Prestige.  Except for GIGA which is still going strong (at least in the sense their are still making many new titles each year) the rest of them were one-offs with no follow-ups. So the conclusion is obviously these titles can’t make enough sales to cover the production cost. So we have to fap to much cheaper alt-reality and secret investigator JAV for the similar fetish. But there’s something in these rare titles with the cheesy dialog lines, corny posings and amateurish fighting actions that has a special spot in my library.   (if you want to write me hate mail for dissing GIGA, bring it on!)
