Well, we've hinted at it some time ago:  V&R along with making some truly bizarre titles also makes some fantastic lesbian dramas.  The director of them, BYAKKO left the company on amicable terms last year* and now actually shoots for another studio we work with, FETISH-JAPAN though it remains to be seen if he'll still have the ability to shoot these epics or opt for more 'quickies'. (*Update:  BYAKKO let us know that he has started shooting lesbian dramas again for V&R!)

It's not often to see an AV maker produce a title like SCHOOLGIRL LESBIAN LOVE STORY ACROSS GENERATIONS.  Here we have a full-on dramatic tale taking place in Japan's increasingly depopulated countryside that combines innocent same-sex romance with...ghosts.  Mind you, this is not a 'spooky' ghost movie.  Please don't mistake it for that!  The specter, played by REI MIZUNA, is more of an ever-present guardian angel that gets a chance to be corporeal once again--although only for a short time.

She's not ever up to mischief.  She doesn't mean to frighten anyone.  Her only desire as noted in this double update's finale is to look after those she loves most...and to help out whenever and however she can.

ACROSS GENERATIONS was a fantastic title to work on.  BYAKKO knows quality and also has his shooting practices down solid.  We can say without any hesitation that today's and Friday's update's dramatic chops are at the ORGA level though the story of course is something very un-ORGA-like.  There's not really any suspense here and of course no blackmail nor debt payback either.  It's just a very sweet tale about innocence and love between two best friends.

Praise also must be given for the mosaic application which is incredibly thin and really form-fitting.  You can probably tell already by looking at some of the screenshots to the left of this, but it barely hides anything.  Even viewing this title in Full HD where production flaws may become even more apparent shows a title crafted by people who truly enjoy what they do and want to deliver the best possible product to their fans.

ACROSS GENERATIONS is a bittersweet story of lesbian love though the lesbianism itself isn't directly addressed.  We found this a nice touch as it made for a movie where the physical romance felt pure and not even remotely salacious.  These weren't two lesbian Japanese AV stars going by the books, but two female youths earnestly exploring each other's bodies in ways most intimate.

Being a three hour title, we opted to split this into two updates as our own production process took considerably longer than average.  Usually when we do split an update into two, we try to do so right down the middle (or as close as possible).  However, ACROSS GENERATIONS  features a very lengthy (in a good way!) scene right in the middle leading to Part One running just over two hours and Part Two being a brief 58 minutes.

Whether you like lesbians, drama, schoolgirls, or Japan's bucolic past, SCHOOLGIRL LESBIAN LOVE STORY ACROSS GENERATIONS is a fantastic release that checks all the boxes of great Japanese AV.  Lastly, it should be noted that this probably will be the only title we show from V&R's famous "V&R PLANNING" label (though in a few years we may dig deep into their 'classic' library, but that's a story for another update).  We're actually not sure why they released this under that label which deals almost entirely with movies featuring a genre we cannot show on ZENRA due to prudent billing restrictions.  All other updates (at least as of writing this) will be from their more mainstream 'V&R PRODUCE' (formerly V&R PRODUCTS) label.
