ATTENTION! After FANZA, FANTIA Faces Heat From Payment Providers
Uh oh, Looks like the JAV industry just took a major hit by it’s over-dependence on foreign credit card issuers. Fantia, the fan exclusive platform used by some of the cream talents of the JAV industry, just got slapped with a surprise notice by their biller that they can no longer take most major brand credit cards. That's right, those little plastic cards you rely on for getting closer to your favorite actresses, might not work come July.

So, what's the tea, you ask? Apparently, some Japanese billers now aren't too keen on being involved with, ahem, adult-oriented products. This isn't the first rodeo for these payment processors, though. In recent years, there has been an increase in the number of major credit card companies suddenly suspending their services to adult industry giants, with DMM announcing that it will stop accepting Mastercard for it's subsidiary FANZA from July 2022, Nico Nico announcing that it will stop accepting the world's second largest credit card in November. While DLsite temporarily stopped accepting all three big names in April. Major credit card companies or the billers in Japan that take them seem to be getting skittish about the whole "adult entertainment" scene.
Now, some X users are speculating of censorship. Is this a sneaky way for credit card giants to control what we see and spend on? Maybe, maybe not. But one thing's for sure, it's a major headache for creators and fans alike.
The adult platform rolled out a statement right after the suspension, "Thank you for always using Fantia. From 15:30 on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, The use of...credit cards has been temporarily suspended. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you, We are very sorry for the sudden contact. We would appreciate your understanding and cooperation."
Here's the rundown of the latest strike on JAV:
- Fantia's Freezin' Out On the Two Big Issuers: As of July, those trusty credit cards won't work on Fantia anymore. Gotta find a new way to shower your favorite starlets with virtual roses!
- JCB to the Rescue (Maybe): If you're scrambling for alternatives, Fantia suggests grabbing a DMM JCB card. Not the most glamorous option, but hey, gotta do what you gotta do, right?
- Alternative Avenues: Don't despair, readers! Fantia still accepts other payment methods. We're talking JCB, other smaller credit card issuers, convenience store payments, bank transfers, and even atone postpaid payment (for downloads only).
- Toracoin Feels the Pinch Too: Toranoana, the folks behind Fantia, also run the Toracoin Shop, where you can buy their special web coin for use on Fantia and their doujin store. Guess what? The two big credit cards are getting the boot there too. Stock up on alternative payment methods if you plan on using Toracoin!
In a statement on their website, Toranoana mentioned that it had temporary held back on credit card transactions and urged users to use JCB and other payment services.
What remains to be seen, now, is whether the big two are likely to overturn their suspension in the near future citing loss of revenue from a specific user base. On the other hand, It's a scramble for creators to keep their income flowing and for fans to keep supporting their favorites. The future of JAV transactions remains uncertain. But hey, that's the world we live in, right? Until next time, stay informed, stay creative, and find a payment method that works for you (wink wink).
Meanwhile, follow Fantia's X account to keep yourself updated regarding the same. In another blog, ZENRA, the man himself sat down for an interview with the renowned adult blog TokyoKinky regarding the issues surrounding JAV right now.
