JAV Auctions: The Good, the Weird, and the Ugly
Who doesn't love auctions? For mega porn collectors and die-hard fans, the bulk of the best unique merchandise comes from DMM/Fanza's Auction. Like any other auction, you can find soiled panties, bra and panty sets... Should I clarify Adult Auction?
So to first start off, I will put out a disclaimer... Fanza deletes their auction history after 3 months have passed, meaning that I have no access to the highest of all time; and even though I know actresses who've sold an item, I don't remember the exact details, have pictures, nor the item name. For this reason, any items with pictures will have been from the past 3 months, as of writing this article.
Least Expensive
Now there are several items on this list, which ended up at the bottom. Unsurprisingly the bottom contains a multitude of chekis (polaroids) which are of... mature women. The only thing that I can comment on, is that all auctioned items require winning bidders to pay a shipping fee on top of the price they bid for the item, so even with the polaroid at 100 yen, a shipping fee for a few hundred yen is also required.
Now, that's for the entirety of AV, however there's a category for AV and Rookie AV actresses, who did much better, with the lowest being 1,000 yen or roughly 9.45 USD.
As you can hopefully see, these rookies were not selling polaroids, but rather used items, from panties and bras to toothbrushes... Well, 1000 yen is certainly a deal! Unfortunately, there's not much to comment about this, so let's move on to the most expensive auctions!
Most Expensive
Unsurprisingly, having your favorite actress's personally used undergarments, or clothing from a scene is a JAV Collector's dream. So that's why it's no surprise that the most expensive auction is from none other than...
This Bra and Panty set were sold for 214,100 yen or roughly 2,015 USD.
Hana Haruna! It may be a surprise to some people as Hana Haruna is, in my books, a mid-tier actress. Although she doesn't have the largest fan base, she certainly has fans with big pockets. Now, this comes from a VR video which has multiple actresses, which raises more questions about how this auction went up so high. The only theory I have would be that it might have been her first auction on DMM, but I have no proof and I'm not 100% sure or convinced by the logic of it. Anyways, Hana has continued to do well in auctions, with roughly 22,000 yen per auction.
I haven't bothered to go over every actress, however the average winning bid for each auction, seems to be on par with other actresses like Hibiki Otsuki who regularly auctions items, but much lower than actresses who do auctions less frequently, such as Aika Yamagishi, Julia, and Akari Mitani (all featured actresses- average above 40,000 yen). Meanwhile, actresses who tend to do more planning work, will hover around 5,000-15,000 yen per item.
Now I won't be going through every the entire list, however something people might find interesting is "greeting cards". They make up 40% of the top 10 items, and overall doing really well compared to others items. Greeting cards are all personalized for the winner of the auction which makes them a highly sought out item.
While Asuna Kawai has made this go for 200,500 yen (1,889.73 USD) , she's not the only one. Other actresses have been doing just as well, such as Nene Yoshitaka, Sora Shiina, Miharu Usa, Suzumori Remu, and Anna Kami, ranging in the 140,000 to 160,000 range.
What would you try and get? Something from your favorite actress? Leave a comment down below, and please give feedback!
The Weird:
To start off, let's talk about alarm clocks. There's an long history of auctioning off alarm clocks. The alarm clocks are generally pink, but all have the actresses' signatures on it, plus a recorded wake-up message. This is actually a very cute idea, if you want to wake up in the morning to your favorite actress. This is not uncommon in JAV, and there have been lots of opportunities for fans to buy "wake-up messages" from their favorite stars from studios like SOD and more, which I won't be going into here.
Masturbators
While most people would wonder why masturbators would be in the "weird" section... I found this shape absolutely hilarious.
While there's no char and the corn does look a bit under-seasoned, it looks absolutely delicious and I can't wait to swallow that juicy... Oh, it's a masturbator. I forgot.
Bath-towels
They also have signed bath-towels, which is kind of fun... my main question is what do you do with it? Hang it up for all eternity and have their naked body scent slowly disperse over time? Anyways, it's a good thing it's signed, but I'm curious whether or not it'll fade over time...
Anyways, the towels have gone for anywhere from 2,000 yen to just over 10,000 yen from what I've seen. Now on to the next item!
Suitcases
Would you like taking Yui Hatano's signed suitcase around Tokyo? Unfortunately it's already been auctioned, but what do you think? I'm slightly dubious about either the amount it has been used, or the lack of. In any case, this would arguably be one of the more "practical" purchases you could make on an adult auction site.
Earrings
I'm not sure who bid on this, but if they are a man, do they plan on giving it to their woman and telling them? If they are a women, are they keeping it as a keepsake?
Regardless, I wonder if the person who got these, told their significant other where it came from. Not to mention, 3500 yen for earrings is "cheap" assuming that the earrings are good quality, which makes me wonder how much they actually cost. In any case, I think the idea brings a bit of sentimentality which is cute.
Event poster
They have banners/posters which were used to advertise a specific event. It can be neat for the event-goers having a memorabilia from something they went to. It's a great opportunity to get a professionally done, life sized face image of the actress with their signature on it... Granted, you probably don't want anyone to see it lying around in your home.
Masks
Yup. You read the title right. Masks. Hana auctioned off a mask with her kiss on the front of it. While it's not as crazy as the amateurs who auctioned off their used masks, I think this is definitely an... interesting choice.
Toothbrushes
This is probably kind of expected, as they have auctions which try and appease everyone. I mean... who wouldn't want to use a used toothbrush from your favorite actress? It'd be like you're a real couple!
What do you think was the weirdest item on here? Is there something that you'd want to get if it were possible?
The Ugly
What's worse than money you can't have? Money you can't use. That is just the case with one website Ichigeki *disclaimer: multiple websites go under this username, so just beware all of them*. Ichigeki has their own currency, "PaiPai". Users will use PayPal to charge their account with "PaiPai" and can then bid on or purchase items at their own leisure. While I haven't tried doing this, I'm skeptical on whether there is a "refund" option, and although you can go through Paypal and make a claim, it would become a lot trickier to get a refund on money, and could implicate a life-time ban from the website. So users are pressured to win the auctions they bid on or try and buy a bunch of short video clips to get rid of the currency in their account. In either case, it ends up being a lot more profitable for the website. Unlike DMM, this website requires you have their point currency first, before bidding, based on my understanding of it.
Now unfortunately, when there are good things, there will also be bad things. and people who try and exploit it. Believe it or not, Aika Yumeno auctioned her spoon off, a clip which was shared on twitter as an advertisement.

Now I did some digging, and unfortunately the website seems to have been taken down or moved as the link didn't work; and after doing some research, I believe the auction site in question, was supposedly part of a penny auction scam. So how does the scam work? Well... first and foremost, the auction itself is a penny auction. A penny auction is one which adds a micro-transaction for every bid you make, regardless of whether or not you win the item. Some sites will charge 50 cents, some sites will charge a full dollar. To exploit this, owners can use people, or bots to drive up the price. When items start out super cheap, it makes it easy to make money if everyone is doing small increments.
Opinion
So this leaves us with one question. Are actresses aware of the scam sites? In order to answer this, I want to first explain how auctions work. The actress, studio, and agency are the ones in control of the auction. There may be clause in the contract requiring the actress to auction an item, it could be the actress wanting to auction something. In two out of the three cases, it's handled predominantly by another entity asides from the actress, and even if they are cognizant and want the item to be auctioned, it would be safe to assume they have little involvement in the logistics.
Looking into this case further, Aika Yumeno and Hana Haruna both share the same agency, Testar. While I can't confirm whether or not the ichigeki sites are the same, it is suspicious already to share the same name. Taking the knowledge that most agencies handle their AV actresses' accounts, it would implicate that the talent agencies, specifically Testar, knows that these sites are sketchy and fully support it.
Comments
Some sites don't actually check whether or not your phone is actually JP. That's been my experience w/ DMM so far- I can bid even w/o a JP phone number (though the formatting can be finnicky if you aren't careful), but I have heard of people having issues w/ it (keep in mind you will need VPN to access the page). As for foreigners bidding on auction items, I've heard of people using brokers (either via services who specialize in auctions... bit of gray area because of how high they can go/shipping laws,) or using friends who are in Japan to do it for them w/ a cap price.
