JAV inside workings: how a new girl starts career and did Yui Shirasaka overshare? Part 2
Did Yui Shirasaka overshare?
In part 2 we now get a glimpse into a real world case. In the age of SNS, more than in the old days, JAV idols might deliberately or accidentally expose the inside workings. In a story (which disappears after 24 hours) on InstaGram Yui Shirasaka 白坂有以 responded to a fan's question “How did you join up with Moodyz?” She answered: she did interviews with SOD, Faleno, Prestige and two studios (S1 and Moodyz) of the conglomerate WILL. SOD declined to make her an offer, but the rest did. And then it was a straight forward decision process: the highest bidder wins. That’s how Yui Shirasaka launched her career on New Years day this year, and since then, releasing a new title each month as an exclusive contract girl under Moodyz’s premium Diva label. Being very young, she might have inadvertently let out a bit more than the industry like. On the other hand, her bash and "show me the money" coolness might jive with a more in-control and powerful image of the JAV performers that is agreeable to the industry.

Undressing Shirasaka's debut
Digging a little into Yui Shirasaka’s short answer may still be fun and fruitful. One glaring omission is IdeaPockets, why didn’t she interview with them? Did IdeaPockets not even invite her to an interview? Or the reverse: did her agency bypassed IdeaPockets since they are viewed such a weak brand nowadays. Either way it doesn’t look good for IdeaPackets, Shirasaka’s still-early career would have been a boost to IdeaPockets’ line-up.
Then why did SOD not make her an offer? How come big spender Faleno got outbidded by Moodyz? I think we as fans should not overanalyze these questions and jump to some oversimplistic conclusions. It could be that SOD simply failed to see her assets and talents. Or it could be SOD judged her to be too good for SOD. In the oriental business world, making an offer that’s too low could have subtly negative result than not putting in a bid at all. We on the outside simply have no way to know. The size of an offer made by a particular studio to a particular girl is not just a reflection of her commercial value and the depth of studio’s purse. It is also significantly determined by the match between the persona and studio’s need at the time. It’s perfectly reasonable a baseball team give up on a top talent of a second base in pursuit of a good second-rated catcher, if that’s the position they need. A smaller studio could decide to spend big money, maybe even over-spend on a hot newbie for non-financial considerations.
So when a gossip or rumor comes my way, I do read it with interest, but I wouldn't take them (true, fake or in-between) too serious.
