Oppaira's Debut Review Roundup - 2021

Published : December 19th, 2021 Written by Oppaira

Hey everyone, welcome to the 2021 debut review roundup. This is a post where I'll be going over my thoughts in general about this year's debuts, finalizing my ratings, and picking my favourite and runner up in several categories. If you haven't been following my individual review posts or don't want to spend that much time doing it, this is definitely the best place to be.

Overview

I thought this year was a pretty solid year, all things considered. I must say that it looked a little mediocre early on but as things started getting underway I think it turned out alright. I thought we had a good mix of actresses on a wide array of metrics. Considering that last year I didn't give a single actress an S rank I think that I'm a bit more pleased with this year. Last year did end up having both Aka Asuka and Hana Himesaki, who I've watched as much as I would an S actress, so it just goes to show you can't always predict success. At any rate, there have been some great actresses worth checking out.

Rating Changes

One of the things I've noticed with ratings for debut actresses is that it's very difficult to get it right the first time. What I mean by that is that I find myself wanting to change some ratings as the year goes on. Between when I first put pen to paper and collect my thoughts, to when I finish my review post, to this roundup post, I find some of my opinions change. It's a lot different compared to reviewing actresses that have been around for a few years, debut actresses are a lot less known quantities. Actresses might retire, go freelance, increase their output, or any host of things that can change how you feel about them. It's not just me changing opinions either, as the chart from one of my sales reports indicates. With that said, here are some changes to my original ratings I would make.

Karen Yuzuriha: C -> B

Karen was someone I thought was okay at first but various things made me not super interested. That being said, I've heard that she has blossomed into a pretty good performer. People have told me enough times that I'm definitely willing to give her a shot. Especially with her already having videos out that are apparently good, I could totally see myself checking her out again. Especially with Karen seemingly settling down as a dual exclusive between Oppai and Premium, I think there's a lot of potential for some good things to come. That's really one of the important things to remember, that my ratings aren't entirely based on their physical attributes or performing skills, that careers matter as well. Karen's is going in a great direction and no doubt I'll want to check out some future stuff.

Konan Koyoi: B -> A

Konan is someone I enjoyed early on and have been enjoying more and more since I first watched her. The first time I saw her face on a cover I thought it was just okay, but the more and more I've seen it the more I realized it's actually fairly nice. The same is true about her as a whole and I've slowly whittled down my defenses. Having now watched a second video I can say with confidence that Konan is actually great. She's quite upbeat and seems to really enjoy what she does. She comes across rather natural, willing to give a hearty laugh and just be herself. S1 can have a lot of very generic content and none of the remaining videos of hers look interesting, but I would be very surprised not to watch at least a couple of videos next year. I watched a handful of S1 debuts from last year, Riri Nanatsumori, Mahina Amane, Tsubaki Sannomiya, and Aka Asuka, and Konan probably slots right below Aka. That's actually pretty good considering that I would say Aka is my second favourite from last year. I expect good things from Konan in the future and expect to watch more of her in 2022.

Mina Kitano: C -> B

Mina has been the wildest ride of all actresses, I think. My raw, first impression was that her fake tits meant I would never, ever watch her again. I mean, I was ready to give her a big fat F. That style of fake tits (akin to Eimi Fukada's) are things I have huge trouble getting over. The more I thought about it I realized that I liked her a lot more than Eimi in other aspects (face and ass for sure). As I saw where Mina's career was going I realized I would almost certainly be watching her again. Especially when she has videos like this lesbian threesome with Mao Hamasaki and Yui Hatano, she's definitely testing my limits on how good a video she can make that I'll have to watch.

Misono Mizuhara: C -> B

Misono was someone I kind of panned a bit more than I ought to have. Facially I didn't really care for her but her tits are pretty big and you know me. Very recently her career has started to show a bit more life to it. Getting some pretty good opportunities, between series I enjoy and pairing up with other busty stars, I think there's a high probability I'm going to be watching her at least one more time to see. It's hard to say how she'll compete with other actresses, especially Chitose Saegusa (who I compared her to), but I think in reality there's always room for more actresses. Especially in this current climate where actresses might take random breaks at a moment's notice, it can't hurt to have a laundry list of videos to check out.

Risa Dan: A -> D

I find it increasingly less likely that I will watch Risa given that she seems to be retired now. She was the first actress I watched (back in July) and I was more than happy to watch her, but she wound up disappearing a couple of months later. Having not released anything in three months it's hard to think she'll be producing anything more. I know myself well enough to know that I don't invest any time into actresses that retire early like this, this is exactly what happened with Riho Agatsuma back in 2019, where I never watched her again (until she redebuted, that is). There are still six actresses that got an A rank or higher from just this year alone, so it's not like Risa was so far above everyone else that I want to keep watching. Interestingly enough, having watched 28 debuts I think Risa is the only one that ended up retiring; I must say, we lucked out pretty well this year. Who knows, maybe Risa isn't actually retired, you never can tell these days with everyone taking breaks left and right. If she turns out to still be active I'm sure I'll happily watch her again, but that seems less and less likely by the day.

Most Attractive (pretty)

I find year after year that this is the most difficult category to pick. Rarely is there ever someone who completely blows away the competition. I think part of that has to do with how I find actresses more attractive as I watch them more, but I think also that has something to do with actresses not looking their best on their debut. As they get more comfortable on camera, as they mature, as they get small amounts of work done, I find they just always seem to look better later on in their career. This is true even among my favourites. You wouldn't believe how many times I swapped this back and forth before finally settling on these names, and honestly I have no idea if I got it right. I still think the biggest thing is that nobody was an absolute clear winner in my books.

Runner Up - Minaho Ariga

Minaho is my pick for second which I think has more to do with my own preferences rather than how attractive she ultimately is. I can tell, pretty clearly, that she isn't the most attractive debut I've ever reviewed, but my preference for women in their 30s has Minaho pushing the right buttons for me. She has this sultry look to her that really suits the overall vibe that I can really get behind.

Winner - Konan Koyoi

Konan is someone I've been finding more and more attractive as time goes on. If I had told myself from the first time I saw a cover of hers she would be here I definitely would not have believed it. I guess it just goes to show that the raw first impressions aren't always the best thing. One of the big things for me with Konan is that she looks great when she's smiling and it kind of takes off the sharpness of her eyes enough to be really quite nice.

Best Tits

There were certainly a few actresses with great tits this year, something I'm always happy to see. It was definitely one of the hardest choices I had to make but I think I'm happy with my selections.

Runner Up - Konan Koyoi

Konan's ended up being my second favourite. Above all else I think the thing that did it for me was how great her tits looked while they were bouncing and jiggling. I tend to prefer tits with a bit of give to them for this exact reason, and Konan's were really great in that respect. I couldn't get enough of them the second time I watched them and no doubt there will be a third, they're just too great not to.

Winner - Alice Kisaki

Alice's tits definitely were the real deal, absolutely no question there. It's hard to find tits that are this nice and I could watch those things for days. They just have such a rare balance between jiggle and firmness that sets them apart from the crowd.

Best Ass

Early on I thought this was going to be a very easy category to pick. I had seen an ass that I thought for sure was going to be my favourite. As it turns out there were quite a few nice asses I ran into this year. There were definitely some that are very nice and didn't make the list that I think actually do need to be mentioned because I would feel bad not doing it. Those two are Rino Yuki and Minaho Ariga. While I certainly made up my mind, I'll let others make up their mind with this handy comparison gif between them.

Runner Up - Mina Kitano

When I first saw Mina's ass I was pretty sure it was going to be my favourite. It's big and juicy, just the way I like it. Even if some angles make it look a tad bit fake, I don't mind as long as it's not too egregious (e.g. early Maria Nagai's ass was nice, now it's a little too overboard). I still say that Mina's ass is fantastic and worth watching again, you really can't go wrong with it.

Winner - Alice Kisaki

Alice was not someone I was expecting to have a nice ass but I think her overall baby fat really contributed to her being just a bit more juicy in the right areas. The way that thing jiggles is unbelievable, it gives her tits a run for their money. It's not just the right angle either, I've seen a second video that confirmed the same findings. It's great and if you like seeing asses that jiggle as well, this is where you should be.

Best Body

Best body is probably the category I care the least about. Unless someone has a 10/10 body (and spoiler, nobody did), it really doesn't matter that much to me. The difference between an average body and the top were fairly minimal, I thought.

Runner Up - Alice Kisaki

Much like our winner, Alice's body was fairly juicy. Instead of just someone who was super skinny I liked that Alice had a bit of baby fat to her. That kind of fat makes her look a bit thicc without ever coming across as heavy. Fans of Ai Uehara will know what I'm talking about here. At any rate, Alice's body isn't insane or anything but it's still a great way to compliment her other assets.

Winner - Ruu Yumemi

Ruu has an overall thiccness to her that is hard to beat. Skinny actresses are a dime a dozen but meaty actresses who aren't too meaty are hard to come by. It made all of her body really stand out and I very much enjoyed it all.

Best Video

Runner Up - DASD-879 (Kokona Asakura) [9.1 / 10]

Kokona's video just hit a lot of good notes for me, particularly with how well the directing was. It had a lot of risky elements to it that didn't seem too overdone with the way the video played out. That concept of them just having sex every chance they got helped with more than just the risky aspect. The video itself was comprised of a good mix of short and long scenes, including short sex scenes, which is always great to see. It was honestly way better than I would have ever expected it to be and makes me hope DAS will do more of them in the future.

Winner - MEYD-690 (Risa Dan) [9.2 / 10]

Risa's was my favourite video of the year. Tameike Goro often focuses on more drama style videos that have more submissive performances, so dominant performances like the one Risa had here make a world of difference. While obviously her performance was great I found the theme itself was pretty awesome too. They did a good job of capturing all the aspects of the convenience store, from the aisles to the front counter to the fridge to the back room, plus she was clad in that uniform as well. When you factor in the risky aspect, oh boy. This video is probably just shy of making my top 25 of the year, but even that's a pretty impressive feat considering how much better that is than last year's best video.

Best Performer

Best performer is one of my favourite categories. I think performing is a good indicator of what the future holds for an actress and I'm always glad to see debuts who aren't just generic actresses. Especially when it's early on in their career it helps them stand out so much against the crowd. There were a handful of solid performers this year but these two stood above the rest.

Runner Up - Ren Usui

Ren's performance came completely out of left field but boy did it really strike a chord with me. This weird mix of her feeling pity for the loser underling of hers mixed with disgust was great. You're so pathetic that I feel the need to help you out was incredible. It's a shame the video is a series with just that video but I would absolutely love to see quite a few other actresses who work for Fitch take it on. Anyway, it felt like Ren really made the video her own and took it in a great direction. It could so easily have been trash and fallen flat but her ability to keep up her performance the whole time was great. It really just wouldn't have had the same feel if Ren was submissive during sex. Really well done from Ren.

Winner - Risa Dan

I'm not at all surprised that the best video had the best performance, it seems perfectly logical that the two would go hand-in-hand. Risa was a delight to watch with how upbeat she was. She seemed to truly buy into the theme of cheating on her husband with the other employees. To some extent the video itself certainly helped but clearly Risa was good at what she did. It makes me even sadder that she was the only one to retire because she seemed to have a lot of potential. You just don't see performing like this from debuts.

Most Likely to Succeed

This is a category that throws out any personal feelings I have about an actress and tries to give as objective an opinion as I can. Sometimes you can spot actresses that are just going to be the next big thing and that's the goal here.

Runner Up - Karen Yuzuriha

Despite having watched several exclusive actresses I don't exactly have the biggest confidence in them. A lot of them are showing to be middle of the top 100 with placements like Konan's at 52nd and Rin at 53rd on our latest sales. Karen was still at 26th (down 10 spots) so she's still quite popular. It's not just the sales though you have to examine much more than that.

For starters she's been working with some good studios and producing a steady stream of work. It looks like she's a dual exclusive with Oppai and Premium right now which bodes really well for her. I think dual exclusivity is awesome and I think that pair will work out for her. Both are solid studios that can focus on different aspects of her.

Another big thing is how she's been improving as a performer. While I personally have not yet watched her again a lot of people have been praising her as a performer. Strong performing skills for a debut are pretty hard to come by and I think if she's got such strong skills this early on then the sky is the limit for her.

Winner - Mina Kitano

As reluctant as I have been at times to rate Mina highly I think her career is booming. She's getting all the right opportunities to blossom and be someone worth paying attention to. I can put aside my opinion on her tits and admire that she's doing really well. Lots of videos coming out and for a good amount of major freelance studios. I have no doubt that she'll continue to get better and continue to get great opportunities. Especially if she's willing to be a bit more daring like the lesbian video we might see some really great stuff from her next year. I don't think she really has to be more daring, she seems to have enough going for her, but I certainly wouldn't say no to it.

Most Disappointing

One of the big things with debuts is hoping that they hit their potential. As nice as an actress might look or as well as their career may be going, it's really easy for someone to just not be what you expected. That's all what this category is for, the actresses that had the biggest difference between what I hoped for and what we got.

Runner Up - Rin Natsuki

Rin was certainly quite disappointing to me. She did well on some sales posts and Faleno has a solid track record with debuts. After watching her I just didn't see anything that made me interested in watching more. She certainly wasn't someone I was super excited about like Alice Kisaki but certainly her sales made me think she might legitimately compete with Yume Nikaido. To see her be nothing near Yume made me a little sad.

Winner - Kaoru Yasui

Without a doubt Kaoru was the most disappointing actress, not even close. Debuting for Muteki was a big deal, not just because everyone thought Muteki had closed their doors but also because of the success we often see from their debuts. Even among actresses I watch, quite a few Muteki debuts are among my favourites. There's also the fact that she debuted at the top of the charts and people were losing their mind over her. Yeah, part of that was probably her being at Muteki, but the point still stands that she was really highly touted. Watching her was just a massive disappointment, from how plain she looked to her curves not being what I had hoped to her performance being downright terrible. I don't regret watching Kaoru but she certainly gave me a reminder that I should formulate my own opinions about watching actresses rather than trusting the sales.

Most Likely to Watch Again

Finally we have the all important category of most likely to watch again. This is a really big one for me because it's the culmination of all aspects of the actresses and the year as whole. This is where I essentially pick my final favourites for the year.

In total this year I've seen four actresses a second time: Minaho Ariga, Rino Yuki, Konan Koyoi, and Alice Kisaki (the videos I watched of them are all linked above). What makes this stand out is how it compares to last year. I didn't watch a single actress again in the year they debuted, for any of the 21 actresses I watched. It makes this year a lot more comparable to 2019 where I had watched quite a few (I watched each of my big three of Yuria Yoshine, Kaho Imai, and Ruka Inaba three times).

Runner Up - Minaho Ariga

Minaho is someone who just has a lot of things going for her. Even if she's somewhat stuck at Kanbi the fact of the matter is that she has some great qualities in her deepthroating and squirting. Especially as Kanbi keeps finding ways to put her in rough videos like the one above, I think it just compliments her well. I even hesitate to call her stuck at Kanbi because I actually think they are doing a good job with her. I think I'm pretty likely to watch more of her at Kanbi, I've already seen a second video of hers, but if she goes freelance like many from Kanbi end up doing, I will probably watch quite a few videos of hers. I think the big thing is that Minaho is the maker of her own destiny here. I want to watch more of her and it's just about making sure the right videos come out. When I think about the opportunities someone with her rare talent of both deepthroating and squirting could have, I just feel like there's much better than Kanbi available.

Winner - Alice Kisaki

At the end of the day Alice is definitely the actress I most want to watch again. That's absolutely because of her upcoming Oppai release and how high my hopes are for it. I've seen every entry in the series, I even wrote a post on that series, so it should come as no surprise that I intend to watch it. I think Alice's body also speaks for itself, it's rare to have an actress that is amazing from both sides and she reminds me a bit of Shiori Tsukada in that respect. While she's physically no Shiori there really isn't much else to compare her to, which just goes to show how lovely she is. I can't say that I have the highest hopes for her as a performer, and I suspect she'll end up equally as bad as Shiori, but at least Alice is getting the right opportunities. Working as a dual exclusive for E-Body and Oppai should give her opportunities to become a solid actress. Would I be rating her quite this high if it wasn't for this particular video coming out? Perhaps not. I think the big thing here is that unlike other actresses there's a video coming out that I can say, with certainty, I will be watching, which I can't really say for anyone else. Yeah, I do have other actresses I'm interested in watching as well, but I'm a lot more willing to wait patiently for the right video, whereas Alice got lucky that hers is coming out in a few days. I do think that Alice being a dual exclusive is great and there's a lot of potential for some good stuff to come from that.

Least Likely to Watch Again

This is one of those categories you kind of feel bad about writing but it's such a natural category to do. Especially since my ratings are all explicitly rating them on a scale of how likely I am to watch them again, it just makes sense. I find this is a category that is very good for introspection as I can try and see why I'm watching actresses that I'm unlikely to watch again.

Runner Up - Kaoru Yasui

Kaoru Yasui just didn't do anything for me. She was such an awful performer that I couldn't get behind her whatsoever. That was even after I had to wait forever for anything with a plot to come out from her. Even now, she has nine standard entries with S1 and I watched the only one with a plot. I don't really get how S1 can get away with such generic garbage but with Kaoru consistently producing uninteresting videos and being uninteresting herself, I just don't see myself watching her again. At least with other actresses there might be some redeeming quality or a potential for something good, but I just don't see Kaoru doing well in one of the more enjoyable videos from S1, if she ever does end up doing one of them. Especially when working at a studio like S1 that has not only a great roster but a large one as well, there's undoubtedly many other actresses to watch over her. In fact, there's over a dozen actresses (debuts and veterans alike) that I would sooner watch than Kaoru, so I just don't see myself watching her.

Winner - Rin Natsuki

Rin just wasn't someone I vibed with at all. Honestly, Faleno as a studio is one I haven't vibed a ton with. Most of what I watch there is from Ayaka Tomoda and next down the list is Yume Nikaidou. Knowing how popular Yume has been and the potential for Rin (based on her debuting at the top of the charts) is what drove me to watch Rin. Honestly Rin was just very plain in all aspects, from her appearance to her performing. I think it goes without saying but I probably shouldn't let the sales figures be the only thing that guides me to picking actresses to watch. More than half the actresses I watched made the report at some point and I think that it might not be the worst idea to take a step back and maybe make a couple more selections that I'm more interested. Especially with other writers also discussing debuts, chances are the really popular ones will still get picked up by someone.

Reflections

I find it's important to take a step back and reflect on things, especially when this post is the culmination of so much effort. There were 28 individual posts that went into this and each post took a decent amount of effort. Compared to what I did last year, it was maybe five or six times the effort level to do it, which is not a trivial amount of increase. That's on top of all the time I spent figuring out who to watch, especially when I was focusing a bit more on the sales post results as opposed to strictly my own preferences.

That being said, I don't regret doing it at all. I did really like this format and think it's much a better format for a few reasons:

  • My descriptions before were pretty brief, and the size they're at now (which is like 3x the length) gives people a much better opinion about them.
  • The posts are also formatted much better, with clear delineations about what I'm focusing on in each section.
  • I get to include a lot more eye candy, especially video clips, which can help make my case far better than words or pictures can do.
  • I used to factor in career and potential into the rating but barely glossed over it, and with its own section now I can put the proper emphasis on it that it deserves.
  • I get a much better idea of the actress myself by investing more time into researching them.

For next year I've already been thinking about how to improve things. I've got one big idea in particular that will make consuming things a little better for my readers and I can't wait to do it next year.

Conclusion

All things considered this year's debuts were pretty good. When I compare to years past it's hard for me to say they're much better or worse, which is a good thing. As much as I try to predict the future it's really hard to do, sometimes you're right and sometimes you're wrong. At least this time around I can be happy with the quality of the posts and feel better about my ratings from the level of effort I put into it.

As always, if you have suggestions for how I ran my set of debut posts this year, please don't hesitate to put them in the comments. I'm always looking for ways to improve, which is what drew me to this format in the first place. Shoutouts to Fried Chikan for inspiring these with what he was doing earlier this year. With that said, I hope you've enjoyed this year's set of debuts. I'll be checking out a few more sometime in the spring just because there are always some late debuts that you don't want to skip over. I'll also be doing this again next year so I'll see you all back next winter for more debut posts. Until next time!
